>>10966796 ill be there... but mostly i just use it as an excuse to hang out with friends in seattle and hit up parties. The con itself seems kinda boring.
>>10967308 Only one. It was at Emerald city comicon not Sakura I thought that cos was of u until my friend pointed out the spanish background;_; Mine wasn't as good but I'll show it. Mine will be better than last year so no worries.
>>10967489 Yeah. My friend mentioned he saw a Shinobu cos last year. >you got this nanny Thank you. I think we should definitely do a Monogatari meet if we have enough people.
Last year there was a Capcom photo shoot at the new con center. When Cheese Cake caught on fire, they moved it to the garden at the old convention center……..closer to the danger.
>>10966796 I just want them to get their shit figured out for the cosplay contest. AFAIK it keeps conflicting with whoever has the main stage in the evening taking the whole afternoon to do a tech rehersal.
>>10967563 I missed to that because my fucking HUNK was in the goddamn hotel room! Didn't cosplay for the whole weekend and just drank at Pine Box with my bro instead.
>>10966796 this is the version of araragi i will be going as, if someone wants to do school or casual araragi thats ok too and for Ryu im doing his outfit from the 3D games specifically his Ninja Gaiden 3 outfit
>>10968433 Kind of? It’s a blue karate gi I cut the sleeves off of. Red socks I cut out, and a black scarf I use for Luke’s battle over the Scarlacc outfit. The sword is rubber so peace bonding won’t give me shit. The mask is just a blue balaclava. You can’t see it but I have black ninja shoes.
>>10966796 Is there any good panels/events/meetups/hangouts to go to? I'm used to Katsu/Ota/Mag, where everyone would just get drunk by the Gazebo or Marquis lobby. I went to sak last year, but didn't actually spend much time at the con itself due to a hangover + visiting friends + the fire.
>>10968494 Depends on your niche. There's whole bunch of panels ranging from contests to interests in creating content to voice actors and celebs. Though some were canceled because of the cheese cake factory fire lol
>>10969114 If you are on a tight budget, book a bed from a hostel. There is one hostel literally right next pike place market called Green Tortoise. They tend to go for about 40 bucks a night.
I'm going as Frank West this year. Working on a servbot helmet to wear for photos. The only issue I have at the moment is that I guess I don't like leather. I picked up a nice black leather jacket recently, but even after getting it professionally cleaned I cannot stand the smell.
Unfortunately, I'll be missing out on the con this year, although weirdly, I feel like I won't be missing out on much. Does getting older make you feel jaded about cons, or are they actually getting worse?
>>10969380 some are getting worse, others getting better depending on which staffers jump from the dying one to the better one. them the good one dies and they jump again after owners get greedy. this is the cycle
>>10967861 I'll probably be doing a couple of the free drafts on Sat/Sun, I generally only play on Arena so the only physical deck I own is Krenko EDH that I inherited from my brother
>>10969382 I've noticed that as well. I do want new con goers to have good experiences, but maybe in my aged mindset, I think the cons could be better. I feel like vendor halls have gotten worse, panels that are poorly hosted (this one is kind of inevitable), and some artist alleys accepting AI art. I at least appreciate that people still cosplay and put a lot of effort into it.
>>10969388 I think I just need to expand my horizons of which cons to go to, probably going out of the region. Sakuracon feels too big these days, with just how many buildings there are. I think it could benefit from being at least a little bit smaller, although I do respect that their artist alley is massive. On the other hand, Kumoricon just didn't do it for me last year; nothing about it really stuck out. Wasabicon is dead, and that had the benefit of being so poorly planned that it committed consuicide. I haven't seen much in the way of parties these days, but that's more so due to my old circle dying off. My other issue is that these cons are all getting very expensive to attend; $120 is kind of an insane price if you didn't plan in advance. At least this encourages people to want to host panels or volunteer. I know in my case, I've wanted to do the former for that reason.
TL;DR: Jaded late 20-something year-old ranting about mediocrity in cons.
>>10969417 I think the Washington Summer Con is decent. It's always hosted at the Puyallup Fairgrounds so at least it gives a lot of breathing room for photography.
>>10969417 We're in full agreement on the issue of size and buildings. One is too cramped, two is too spread thin. Even more than that, opening the second building just killed the park photo shoots in Cold blood. Cons lose part of their identity when they switch somewhere else and an iconic location is gone. Sak might be the only one where It's still there and this happened anyway
>>10969417 I’m honestly considering only doing conventions I have never been to next year. Just to see what else is out there. Definitely want to see more horror cons. We only have two in Western Washington.
>>10969526 I took my crew up to Hula Hula karaoke bar on Sunday last year and we all loved it. of course, it's a whopping 6 blocks away which will definitely turn off some
>>10969625 Fourth floor of the new building, all the way in the back >>10969626 Yeah, me. I found Yotsugi who also informed me of a group doing Koyomi, Meme and Ougi. yet to see them
>>10969631 If you saw Karen, you saw me. >>10969632 lel base. Let's meet outside the new building main entrance once I'm done at 5 and then Nana's (or could just come to karaoke anytime between)
>>10969638 Oh goodness [RED SCENE] I couldn't disappoint, I already accepted the opportunity for the diet. The most intimate form of song. One must be quick at the ready to match their partner in spirit and soul [WHITE SCENE] Is there not perhaps the option to fit both? Yes. It's feasible, may more than possible.
Most troon infested Sakura Con ever. In the artist alley today half of everyone we saw was obviously troon or some kind of lgbt. Gf said more men in the women's bathrooms than previous years as well. Also less kids than previous years. What a coincidence. Who would want their kids in this atmosphere that gets increasingly creepier every year? Sad thinking how it used to be in even in the mid 2010s.
>can I sing Blue da ba Dee >no it's not from an anime >okay sexy adventure is from an anime >does it have explicit material >no and it's in Japanese >can't in Japanese either fuck's sake. I see more karaoke hosts acting like this than not now
>>10969754 I'm going to be upfront, I was lying out my ass, I just said cute girl because statistically there's a good chance that there'd be a cute girl doing the panel. I wanted to see how long I could drag it.
>>10969750 This is totally a thing, but your economic condition isn't the "dinergoth substance" that emits dinergoth cultural radiation
If that makes sense
Think of it this way: The early 2010s era hipster culture could be found anywhere across the nation, with mason jars and filament lightbulbs nad exposed brick etc. Even in suburbs. But it was really the newly gentrified neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Philadelphia and Chicago and Portland that "produced" the culture that splashed everyone else. Even if it was widely participated in outside of these areas
>>10966796 Every time i go to Seattle for Sakuracon, i am amazed at how many fentheads are milling around the con center. I watched one dude lay on the cement right outside of that tower coffee shop, then get up and try to grab some cosplayers who were walking by. His pants were at his ankles too. I watched another crackhead repeatedly harrass a guy in a wheelchair right outside of a hotel entrance. On monday i'm pretty sure i saw a naked guy with one arm.
Jesus fuck it's gotten bad. Even in midday in a tourist-y area.
>>10969959 You must mean *behind* Arch in the freeway park area? I never went out there this time. It's a shit, super sketch homeless area and has been for many years. Didn't see any of those types out front on Pike or around Summit.
>>10969974 Day 0 there was some sick fuck screaming across from the hotel. There was a family walking next to me that looked so nervous. I looked to the dad and said, “I miss this town.”
>>10969967 Wow rare picture of me captured in there. Thanks friend.
Also I recognize that Remilia costume, it's the Hoshibako collab dress that is about $325 USD before import fees and shipping + $100 USD hat. It's missing the matching bustier and shoe clips though.
>>10969959 >Seattle for Sakuracon, i am amazed at how many fentheads are milling around >Jesus fuck it's gotten bad I worked in downtown Seattle for 10 years, from 2012 to 2022 We'd take day breaks from work to visit Pax and other cons at the convention center. >during covid I stopped going to Seattle for work >returned to downtown Seattle for a friend's going away party in 2023 >the downtown core stank of stale piss and malt liquor >used needles and burnt tin foil were easy to find on the street >many once thriving businesses were now boarded up empty shells >graffiti everywhere >drug addicts and bums pissing in the alleys, shitting on the curb The city has gone down hill and nobody in Seattle seems to care. Their rally cry seems to be "hey, at least we're not Portland". It's sad. t. born in Seattle
>>10970280 >It's sad. It really is sad, because Seattle is an absolutely beautiful city. And it's pretty clean too... as long as you aren't near one of the places the homeless congregate at. Most "major cities" are just shitty. Boston, NYC, LA, DC, etc. They smell, look like ass, have trash everywhere and run-down buildings. I guess San Fran is kinda nice... but they have the same homeless problem, maybe even worse.
