I pressure cooked nu chicken the other day and made a thread about it. It came out incredibly tender and moist because the connective tissues are annihilated. Yeah it's not the traditional method of poaching it but there are ways to make the dish easily with arnold swordsanegger steroid chicken.

I've had it made with industrial north american chickens in 'merica, and I've had it made with the muy autentico picosa picante ay ay me pica ayam kampung in the dankest most unregulated back alley warungs of kesultanan johor, and in both cases they put white people wood-fiber chicken breast to shame. Though obviously the real kampung shit is better

The place I used to work at had a cafeteria with a chicken rice stall, I'd alternate between getting the fried / roasted / boiled. You could also add on some mushrooms in brown sauce or some bok choy, sometimes I'd go for both. Shit was cash.

My father lived and worked in Hong Kong in the 80s, he has been chasing after the taste of Hainan chicken he's had there for a few decades now, I must have eaten dozens of variations but he still hasn't found it yet. At this point we've been thinking about getting him a round trip ticket so he can enjoy it again and let us eat something else but the place he used to go to probably doesn't exist anymore.
Other than that I like it but you need good chicken.

Yeah people would have definitely had access to informally raised poultry in happy valley 40 years ago. As for shenzhen it's like basically a turbo long island city. Was grimy factories in the early 2000s, is now nothing but shiny and expensive shit, the shenzhen skyline is arguably more "impressive" than HK (arguably because I guarantee someone will argue with this statement)

woah, you weren't kidding about that skyline. I'll make a trip to Shenzhen next time I visit friends in HK, that's worth a look just to see for myself how much it's changed. I think constant change is what I miss the most from living in HK, I live in a midsize town in France now and it does get kinda boring seeing the same things all the time.
Wetmarkets and open air slaughter of chickens was all gone by the time I got to HK (well on the island proper in most places), same with hawkers. The city in the 80s and early 90s sounded like absolute kino, especially if you were a white businessman lol

I was there 1997-2007, it was still pretty cool but I guess I have no frame of reference and I was a teen so I didn't have access to everything (although I saw plenty of people my age getting high or drunk at LKF or various beaches). You still live there? What did suck though is that everyone I went to school with was rich as fuck, like HKJC membership rich.
Fuck I miss the food so much, everything is closed after 10 pm here and fucking expensive. I miss going to the sevens, going on those short, easy hikes, getting cheap games at Golden Computer and taking the bus or ferry to random places, eating in weird places in SSP, dipping in and out of shops to get some AC, man I even miss Ocean Park.
Gonna stop because this is devolving into nostalgiaposting, I haven't thought of the city in literal decades.

sure, but there's no cheap street food here. Basic produce and food in general is way higher quality than most places because of high regulation but there's nowhere to eat for under 15 euros that isn't a kebab or chicken bowl and very little variety in what food there is, also asian food is shit-tier unless you're in Paris or Marseille. France isn't all it's hyped up to be food-wise imo, you get bored a few years in and have to endure Frenchmen being all chauvin about it despite complaining about everything all the time themselves, it's honestly worse than muh americah in that way.
At least the women are hot for the most part and healthcare is cheap. Alizee looks like shit now though.

The thing is you can live in a low COL area in france and still get high quality supermarket food. Low COL living in the US means you're either growing your own, or you're eating garbage from the local garbage store
And look at the bright side, at least you can go to marsay or paree and get ok asian food. That isn't a thing as you get further to the east. Try looking for the best asian food in germany and if you're lucky you get a teppanyaki-doner restaurant run by an AFD skinhead and his southeast asian war bride

That's fair, I've only ever been a tourist in the USA so I never really knew if the slop thing was exaggerated or not, it's true that I've never had better tomatoes than here and there are cheap farmer's markets everywhere you look. I guess I should be grateful as you say and I can always just travel to a neighbouring country for different food if I want it. I'm just tired of every person around here raving about their food and cafe culture, French people are so up their ass about everything and talk about food too much, it gets on my nerves. I do enjoy that they take their time for meals though, only country I've lived in where you sit down for lunch and talk bullshit until dinner.
