i am korean living with my japanese gf and we use this every day (upgraded from an older zojirushi). the quality of even cheap rice cooked in this thing is so high it ruins eating rice at most restaurants. even my jap hating korean grandparents use only zojirushi

What's your budget? Zojirushi is like the KitchenAid stand mixer of rice cookers.
My Korean family member will use anything labeled made in Japan or Korea, she has returned Chinese made rice cookers lol
Pic rel is mine that I'm happy with

I didn't know they had $50 zojirushis desu, I might buy that next.
I've had mine for about 5 years and it's slowing down, cooktime used to take 10 minutes and now it's closer to 15.
Also if you go with mine, get yourself a better rice paddle. The aroma comes with one that has a bunch of stupid plastic dots that make it harder to clean, I threw it out immediately

Went with the Aroma. Only $20 so if it sucks that's not a big loss and I'm guessing it'll be fine for me. Thanks

The only problem is if you use a stainless steel pot on a pressure cooker, long grain rice will DEFINITELY stick when it's done if you don't either 1) serve it all relatively quickly, and/or 2) put your leftovers into containers. Don't leave it on "Warm" or "Reheat." You're going to end up with a pot caked with rice if you do.
It's a fucking pain in the ass, unless you're okay with letting dishes soak. And soak. And soak.

i get why people might assume long grain is all there really is for rice in america, but fun fact, a lot of japanese style medium grain rice is grown here (ex. calrose). we literally make rice for japan but you never see shit like onigiri or tkg for sale here. it's criminal, there are so many wonderful dishes that are super simple and use rice as a staple grain, but americans love their bread so much they think rice is boring. it's not, good rice is one of life's few pleasures, and medium grain rice is really good rice. i grew up on long grain, i have long grain still in the pantry, but i can't see myself going back. medium grain is just too good...

memehack i always shill to people is to check your local auction house for rice cookers religiously if you live in NA
for whatever reason, these things get returned for the most insignificant (sometimes literally imperceivable) """damages""" and amazon/etc sends it straight to auction houses
at least once a month a few of these $300-400 MSP Zojirushi cookers go up for sale at my local place and they never sell for more than $50. all sold with a guarantee to work or money back
you're bidding against people flipping shit and even then these usually don't get half as many bids as anything else because the market for them is minimal so they won't ever go too high
plus these nicer zojirushi models play cute songs when they start and finish it's like your little pal who loves to help you make rice it's so excited to feed you delicious rice and sings happy birthday every time

I use my ricecooker at least once a week. I only use my instapot when I'm bothering with non canned beans or doing a rapid braise so maybe once or twice a month. a rice cooker is more convenient for the task you're going to be doing more often.
