>>22015271 it isnt just "slave food". it's a blend of several culinary traditions including indigenous american (pepperpot, jerk), british (porridge, pudding, pies), african (yam, yaro, okra, offal dishes), latin (beans and peas, patty, tostones, escaveitch, rum, many ingredients and animals were originally brought from spain and portugal), french (fricasse, lobster thermidor), jewish (gizzada, fried and saltfish), indian (curry, ginger, turmeric, pelau), chinese (hardo bread, chop suey, scotch bonnet soy sauce, ginger and scallion as flavoring for meat) and more. jamaica had a ton of influence from non african sources and jamaica is not entirely populated by africans, calling it "slave food" is a reduction.
>>22015336 true, it shares influence from both pasties and empanadas. there's a lot of overlap since it's a small island that got populated by so many peoples.
Jamaicans are my favorite kind of black people. There's a Jamaican restaurant I like to go to that serves incredible jerk chicken. The staff are always very nice and the portions are huge.

>>22016887 it's better than I expected, but still very much as advertised. Grace's cock soup on the other hand is god tier for cheap instant ramen... Mr. Noodles got a sex change after that fiasco - sells 'her' body 35c at a time down in the village. Sad, really.
Jamaica has pretty good food. The ital vegetarian food is really good as is the fish and meat cooked over open flame. I don't like the meat patties or meat stews though.
