>>22015847 No, but they will produce a different smoke flavor than an offset. It does everything pretty well, excels at some things, and is really convenient to use.
>>22015847 they're really good actually. like a grill and an oven into one. They really shine for long cooking time, stuff like brisket and ribs not so much for grilling burgers and hotdogs.
>>22015847 I know someone who had a Big Green Egg and they said it didn't work for shit but they're also a huge retard so I wouldn't take that at face value.
>>22015874 Yeah, because you're baking, not smoking or grilling.
I don't think green eggs are without purpose. I think they make excellent brisket or pork shoulders. But they aren't a grill. They are a wood chip baking solution. Which the North American Indians had a few solutions for.
>>22015897 You can use them with direct or indirect heat, and position the grills lower, so they are closer to the fire. You aren't burning sticks like an offset, but you can add wood chunks on top of your charcoal and absolutely give meat good smoke flavor. The difference aside from burning sticks is that offsets have very high airflow compared to eggs, which also produces a different smoke quality. Your silly definition means all cabinet smokers are also wood chip baking solutions and not smokers.
>>22015924 >any insulation means your smoker is just an oven even if it imparts smoke flavor on meat, produces a smoke ring, and does literally everything a REAL smoker does. Okay, bro. Have fun with your weird opinion, I guess..
>>22015858 >No, but they will produce a different smoke flavor than an offset. Pretentious hipster bullshit. Smoke is smoke. Pretending you could ever taste the difference between direct smoke, pellet smoke, and offset smoke means you're completely full of shit.
OP, they're a decent cooker, but they are hipster tier levels of prep and work to get right. Quagmire's skit on them isn't inaccurate.
>>22018417 "barbecuing" means cooking meat low-and-slow with smoke. "grilling" can be used to describe cooking anything on a grill at any heat, with any heat source, smoke not necessary
>>22015859 It's been longer than fifteen years. My black friends father (I know, they were good ones) in elementary school in the early 2000s bought an egg smoker. I remember the chicken and ribs he cooked on it being really good but I don't know if that's because he was a good cook or if it was the egg smoker.
>>22016546 No they aren't. You put charcoal in, light it, wait for the lid to get preheated, close down airflow and slowly let it reach your temp, add smoke wood, and then put your food in. Way simpler and less fucky than using an offset. Also you're an absolute retard if you think the smoke from burning sticks to cook something and charcoal + wood cubes tastes the same.
