I'm pretty sure the reason Djibril died in the first place was because the creator Noboru Yamaguchi who was also the author of picrel, died.
As I understand he had minor involvement in the OVAs too, that's why MTD3 OVAs had only 2 episodes as opposed to the 4 the previous 2 seasons had and it ends with "to be continued"

I’m finally working to create my own ‘magnum opus’ NTR work. It’s including lots I like about NTR doujins, and leaving out the weaker elements.
Ultimately I’m just creating it for me, but I’m happy to be able to do so. I’ve written the whole thing and collaborating with a great artist who I’ve commissioned on and off for years.
While it hits a few of the established conventions, it also pushes and inverts them. For example, the protagonist is a teacher, but a genuinely good, warm, caring one - not an innate slut. Also, while blackmail is involved, in this case it’s genuinely realistic and compelling.

Probably just personal preference, but it's an interesting question.
If I had to speculate it's easier to portray an mc being devastated from having his mother's love "stolen" from him than it is to portray a sister's love being stolen.
