Beat Takeshi does not trust Toranpu-san
>Whenever Trump shows up, it always feels like there’s something fishy going on. I can’t help but think that he's actually hiding oil and is the only one making a killing off it. He’s telling lies again, or at least, that’s the vibe I get. I just can't trust Trump.

I'm looking for japanese documentaries about societal matters like NEETs, work culture, the gambling world, etc. Any recommendations? And where could I find this type of stuff more generally? Raws or subs it doesn't really matter though no hardsubs would be nice

i don't listen to people talk about japan when they can't speak japanese after living there for over a decade
i don't respect them, and then again how do you know the show is bad when you can't follow it
>>
>>
>>50892109
the second, and he does not have the cultural or background knowledge to talk about how he hates jp variety even if it is bad
he's a youtube slug masquerading as a japanese cultural expert when he doesn't have the capacity to truly engage with it
>>
>>
>>
>>50892120
it's soo funny when a guy living in his mom's basement on the other side of the planet thinks he's the cultural expert over someone who's lived most of his life in japan
sour grapes much
it's fine to baselessly hate youtubers but never go full retard
>>50892136
>バライエティとかドラマとかも全部が面白くない
dont tell that to the guy above
>>
>simping for youtubers when his video gets pushback after getting posted in a general for japanese movies and tv
people don't watch variety for mental stimulation. they watch it out of habit, tradition and is a part of their cultural identity. it's boring and predictable, some may even say bad, but it's comfortable and familiar.
it's a part of the rhythm in their every day life. chris doesn't understand that staying within the bounds of the status quo is a japanese sensibility, but of course he will never understand this because he's an outsider who pretends to be on the inside.
>mom's basement
>full retard
highly original insults coming from the broadly japanese subscriber brainstrust. another reason i don't respect him is because he creates people like you. talk about japanese tv and film or fuck off.

Sure
The site is acgnx dot se and make a pikpak account, I'd use the desktop client instead of the browser page, the free account has a limit of 6gb file size.
Once you searched for something on acgnx click on the blue box face icon thing next to the magnet, then it should start the process of fetching the file, which could take a little bit, after it has fetched them, add the ones you want to download to your profile and download them.
I'm not sure how the fetching process work, if they have them in their archives or it downloads them, but not all files will fetch successfully.
I used it just for javs until now and it works really well with them on bt4g

The live-action is well done. It follows the same bittersweet story as the original anime with more plot lines and scenes added that mostly enhance it. I slightly prefer this rendition mainly because it has double the runtime, which allows it to flesh out the parts where the original felt rushed, specifically during the adult chapters.

it would dilute what makes them special I think, being too many of them, and even more importantly, they wouldn't be able to fit all in Japan save making it incredibly over populated, so they'd have to colonize outside Japan, which would be disastrous in the long term.

Fujiwara had their "first solo live show in 29 years" (which isn't really true, I remember they did a show back in 2021). The concept was that Fujiwara would perform Hero Show-like skits written for them by other comedians.
I didn't find it that interesting honestly, it just made me think they're funnier when they're inflicting self-harm for laughs. During the kaiju skit, Fujimon made a reference to his hit-and-run saying "you need to report if you get in an accident" which was annoying to see he's still pretending he wasn't drunk driving.
I think the best skit was the one that Kamaitachi's Yamauchi wrote. They made a sugar glass bottle (pretty sure I've seen these same bottles in other Yoshimoto videos) into a club so that Haranishi could snap it in half and smash it on his head which I thought was pretty smart. Also stuck his head in front of a dry ice cannon.

>---Since this is a movie channel, we'd like to ask you about your favorite directors
>"There are so many! If we include overseas directors, the number becomes enormous, so let me just list the Japanese directors I would absolutely love to work with someday. Sho Miyake, Ryusuke Hamaguchi, Takeshi Kitano, Toshiaki Toyoda, Sang-il Lee, Hirokazu Kore-eda, and Shinya Tsukamoto. They are such distant figures that it's a dream, but I don't care how old I am or what role I play. I just want to see and experience their filming process. I want to see with my own eyes what kind of words they use to elicit such performances from actors, how they capture such wonderful expressions, and why their films are so moving."

I don't hold Tooru Fujisawa in high regard either (And who does really? His publisher put his current GTO series in hiatus while the Sorimachi version was getting a revival unbeknownst to him), which is why I find even more mind-boggling how bad the live action screenwriters are in comparison.

The main reason why Japanese cinema never got anything close to the global popularity that anime has is the ethnic unfamiliarity with Asian faces that non-Asians (especially Westerners) have. While the racially ambiguous art-style of anime makes it easy for anyone around the world to watch, even live action adaptations of anime are limited by characters looking 'off' to non-Asians when they are played by Japanese actors. (This is also why Korean dramas are mainstream in Asia but more niche in the West, but are still mainstream with Asian diaspora in the West as well.)
Korean dramas have managed to gain significant global popularity despite this big handicap, but they've basically reached everyone in the world who are open to watching shows with only Asians first. Chinese dramas have managed to carve out their own global niche following with the help of their massive diaspora, but without that, it's hard to see Japan ever matching the popularity of Korean dramas due to their huge first-mover advantage. For years, Netflix have carried heaps of J-dramas and regularly recommends them to K-drama viewers, but that hasn't had any effect in creating consistent global viewership for them like K-dramas have.

I wonder how many celebrities buy their own $300k watch vs. get it gifted for PR purposes. Must be kind of embarrassing being a publicly recognizable face but having to waste your own money on stuff like that
>>
>>
>>50907984
Not all recognizable celebs are on this level. You need to have a certain level of success for expensive accessories companies to seek you. You would never see them gifting such watches to someone like Yamada Yuki or Chidori's Nobu, despite being very recognizable.
>>
>>
>>50907984
>but having to waste your own money on stuff like that
It's the complete opposite. Spending lavishly without a care is what celebrities do, makes them feel superior. Even mid level geinins do that. With that being said, it's not a common thing to give celebrities something that costs 1.5 million yen, it needs to be someone of Beat Takeshi's caliber, and there's not many like him. Sure they'll get some eyes on their products, but it's more like an honor to have Takeshi wear their watches.

If you don't care about genres/themes then yes. If you're only interested in specific genres/themes then it gets more diffiuclt.
I've pretty much run out of shows/movies that depict school bullying for example.

they're often cringe, overly melodramatic and overly convoluted for no good reason, but I still enjoy the Japanese culture elements being a weeb.
And since I'm farming japanese hours for practice it helps tolerate stuff that I would never watch in my own language.
There's some stuff that I really had to force myself to finish though, like ase to sekken, which had something gross about the characters and the way it was shot, or boys over flowers, in which I basically disliked all the male characters and it was obviously a show made for teenage girls and not adult men, though I liked the ending movie.

I was intrigued by Kazuko Hosoki after watching her biopic on Netflix so I looked up Japanese people's impression of her but they almost all see her as a harsh, mean and tyrannic woman with a shady background (yakuza connection, con artistry, etc.). Makes me wonder how she was able to become a major name on tv
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>50922540
Beat Takeshi said this when Hosoki was at the height of her career
>People like that are just zashiki geinins (entertainers who perform at banquets or parlors to entertain guests). When company presidents would visit high-end restaurants, she was often called in to perform. She’d suck up to the CEOs, flatter them, and sometimes give them a pep talk, saying things like, “You can’t go on like that. Have you been visiting your ancestors’ graves?” She’d switch between praising and criticizing them. But in the end, she’d say something like, “But you know, it’ll be fine. I’m telling you, you’ll succeed,” and make sure they left feeling good. It’s nothing special. Just a typical parlor entertainer. But as people today have become more mentally fragile and started clinging to things like fortune-telling, that’s how those kinds of people emerged. (this was during the 2000s when religious cults and fortune-telling were popular). Back in the day, they were just common parlor entertainers. And now they’re being called “Sensei, Sensei”. It’s a real headache, isn’t it?”

They did fine, also I realized upon watching than one of them was Natsuki from "Cooking for the Maiko House", one of my favorite shows ever. She was charismatic, and watching while comparing her performance from that show was the reason why I ended up enjoying my time with the movie.

I think it works better for Japan as it's still made for themselves without caring about exporting. It's anime that might cause some concern. While in Korea they seem rather affected by external influences or maybe those articles are exaggerating. I watch Korean movies sometimes but not enough to tell what the changes are.

I bet most of my japanese サラリーマン friends would love that life instead. Having golden week last until wednesday and being forced to go back to the relentless grind on thursday is fucking hell. Not a boomer, but I'd be ashamed of you as well. You don't need to become something that requires a degree, but at least become something proper like a train driver.

Nah, Oshima did one way back in the 80's and I'm pretty sure there'd be some earlier examples. French co-produce east asian movies often. Recently Kore-eda also did a French film after his Palme win and Kiyoshi remade Serpent's Path in France a couple of years ago.
