A large overarching theme of Touhou is posturing and framing. Both gods and youkai have to 'play a part' and convince people of their own truth, rather then relying on principle. Therefore, it's difficult to ever 'trust' a youkai because you're never quite certain whether you are speaking to the genuine article or another mask.

Consider a brawl.
For an Oni, it is always worse NOT to fight, because shirking will always result in more honor lost and your injuries will quickly heal.
For a human, to fight is to risk EVERYTHING, because you may die and injuries will not be quick to heal. But you stand to win much more in the fighting. So, frankly speaking, an Oni's life is not as precious as a human's. The same pattern can be extended to lying, since an Oni cannot lie, but a human can, so an honest human is again worth much more then an honest Oni.
We must seem rather aberrational to youkai, because humans are creatures of principle. We can distinguish truth and develop intuitive understandings separate from the perceptions of others and yet we retain our connections with one another, also, the "human being" extends across time as well, as our apparent nature at any one time is a poor picture of who we are, you must also look backwards and forwards as well as among our peers, to conceive the whole. This nature is even difficult for us to conceive, even though we are apart of it, which is why every religion calls us to seek the higher principles of heaven, rather then just the pragmatic nature of the physical.

To answer the question more pointedly: 'humans' will only be friends with oni when we recognize ourselves, at which point I imagine we will have nothing to fear from them and at the same time we'll find a way to make so they don't cease to be.

To be fair, ZUN has genuinly gone out of their way to demonize her.

She was somewhat of a retired monster in the past. Being one of the great Youkai terrors of Japan and all that. But, you know, she genuinly came across as fairly chill and fun loving in spite of that. I would compare her to Iroh from Avatar the Last Airbender, though generally less wise and more drunk. Nowadays she's just a straight up piece of shit. Just no redeemable qualities whatsoever.
