You think that train was hired by the Aizu line to inspect the tracks, or was it simply passing through to some JR line?

they're probably moving it from winter storage or something like that to whatever line it's gonna run on for summer, just a wild guess

I suppose having the Youtube rewind is very useful for times like this.

Can't believe I missed the steam train, earliest I could rewind was back to a guy having a footbath at 4am. Very cool, it looks like the one from the old days of the Aizu stream.

God what a pixelated mess. I guess 2 minutes with a lot of movement on screen is push it too far.

So the thing under the green covers they installed in the last thread was a water pump for the steam engine.

Wait a minute, are they going to run the steam engine on this line now? I mean, why install a water pump when you can just use a water truck for a one-off stop? And they had the JR line inspection train going past a few days ago, perhaps it was checking the ability of the line to handle the stream train rather than just passing through? It is a scenic line with a famous historical stop, it would make sense to run a historical train on it...

I knew it, they are definitely testing for steam train trips on this line!

I guess word got out, a lot more otaku this time than the night before. And it must be easy to get from the road on the left to the platform, I saw a few emerging from the bushes.

If an SL service starts up on the Aizu line, I wonder if it will just be from Aizu Tajima to Wakamatsu or if it will start in Nikko and do that whole run to Wakamatsu. That would be real nice (except the tunnels, perhaps).
If it does go from Nikko, on days that line up you could take SLs all the way from Nikko to Niigata.
>>
Guys, I'm not positive but I think the SL was this one
https://www.steamlocomotivejapan.com/c11-325
which is associated with Tobu rail and operates on the same line that leads up to Aizu Tajima.
