Here's video testing varying strength levels, from 0 to 6.
Each level of strength above 0 seems to add +0.5u encumbrance capacity. Presumably the XP required to level up from such low levels will be so small that Milkys will be able to quickly bulk up and reach roughly Experiment levels of strength, while also having 16 fucking INT to craft everything and anything.
6 STR seems to be the minimum for being strong enough to throw lightweight things a decent distance.
If a Milky gets lucky and finds an oxygen crystal in an early layer he could easily do push-ups nonstop and quickly get strong in record speed.

Made it to layer 2 last night and going to continue later tonight. I made sandals, a belt, and some bags stuffed with wood, rope, and a good amount of medical supplies + a spare blood bag. Feeling kind of lonely though, I couldn't obtain a flashlight, and I don't really know what I'm gonna do for food/water. I found a metal digging tool but it's gonna break soon as well. Setting both STR and RES to 0 stills results in 6u encumbrance capacity, so 6u seems to be the natural minimum.
I've also discovered an interesting relationship with STR and RES effects on carrying capacity. It seems like carrying capacity is only affected by the lowest stat.
Meaning if you have 20 STR, but 0 RES or vice versa, you still only have 6u carrying capacity.
So if you want to increase your encumbrance capacity you must train both STR and RES, specifically whichever stat is lower than the other until they are equal.
Webmrelated is a 16 STR and RES Experiment (equivalent to a Dune) demonstrating a super jump by powerfully throwing a heavy object downwards while jumping at the same time.

Looped a minimum settings run. Chipless and time limit disabled. It was very calm and slow-paced, almost relaxing after the constant pressures of the PUNISHMENT PROTOCOL and normal trap spawns. But a little boring. I learned a lot about crafting. Also very lonely. The loot rate setting affects drop pod survivors too, and they were basically non-existent. Most of my items I crafted myself because loot was so rare.
Layer 4 is normally very anxiety-inducing chipless because of the radiation, but with minimum traps I really didn't have to worry. There was no salad on Layer 5 but I was still attacked by 3 highly aggressive spiders. Layer 5 on minimum settings has a really cool vibe to it with the ambient sounds of the layer in the background. Makes you forget you're deep inside some hell planet and feels like you're out innawoods. The relative calmness also lets you enjoy the great music of Layer 5.
I'm considering a max settings run next for maximum vibes whiplash and contrast. Tons of supplies but the traps and spiders get really crazy really fast. I've only reached layer 3 on max settings and that was nutty. I can only imagine the hells of layers 4 and 5 after that.

I feel like the in-depth crafting and vitals systems are at odds with the rest of the gameplay. The first aid really doesn't get to shine when more often than not injuries are catastrophic and run ending. The crafting system, paired with the limited inventory, feels a bit obtuse and bloated.
