Milquetoast, severely overrated, and an objective visual and narrative step back from VIII and VII. Its popularity is a complete psyop, or it's widely claimed to be loved by people who only watched clips on youtube. Story is ass. Gameplay is FF1-basic. Characters are depressingly forgettable. Has no good music (worst mainline battle theme btw). It's a whole can of nothing.
>>738746757 Visually it's not a step backwards, just sideways, I like that it looks so different. Narratively it might be a touch worse than 7, but it's a damn sight better than 8, which is a complete and utter narrative mess although in fairness to 8 that is partially because 9 ate up a lot of the crew from 8 mid way through production.
Considering how quickly this got pumped out after 8 and was made during 10's development it's a miracle that the game is as good and coherent as it is. The setting and music isn't as interesting as 8's but holy shit the story and characters are way better.
>>738747536 >but it's a damn sight better than 8 It's contrarian bait anon, you have people that come on here and say the piss poor amnesia/time travel laden story put through the blender of terrible translation is anything but crap, then they try to claim a better game such as FF9, 7, 6, or 10 was worse than 8. These threads have become a near daily thing.
>Characters are depressingly forgettable Bitch maybe you can dizz Zidane, the redhead, mister soldier, redfurry, fat bitch and minibluehair. But don't you dare to ever talk like this about my man Vivi. The music is pretty good too. Also I liked that the party felt like a party with those "what's this character doing in town while you are here?" moments.
>>738747816 you can really tell they had to push the game out by the end of disc 3 the temples not being actual locations you visit and the game making a big deal out of them only to make you fight 1 of the memberberries (with the strongest party members no less) is very telling of how they had to cut a lot of stuff disc 4 is basically just the finale with almost nothing new side content-wise
>>738748665 Bros, I'm replaying FF7 for the first time in years and it just doesn't hit like it used to. I'm starting to think the remakes are unironically superior in every way, aside from the story. Combat is so damn slow in the OG, even slower than 9's combat, imo.
>>738748882 >disc 4 is basically just the finale with almost nothing new side content-wise Tbf that's the same for 9. Actually it's worse because disc 4 permanently closes off certain areas in 9.
>>738746757 I consider IV, VI, and IX to be the worst mainline FF titles (haven't played XV yet, except for Pocket Edition). I tried to replay it recently but dropped it at Treno.
