I played 2 before I played 1 so I'm biased towards 2. It was a perfect 4-hour epic, it hits different when you play the whole story in one go. The comic art in 1 had its own charm though, total hokey shit whereas 2's was very professional looking. I'd love to see a remaster of 1 with 2's graphics and comic quality.
3, however, you could say it was a good game but it sure as fuck wasn't a Max Payne game. The whole point of Max Payne is the gritty nighttime New York noir feel, instead you get sunny-ass daytime Brazil which couldn't be more opposite. It's like when Ubisoft took Splinter Cell, great stealth series, and turned it into a literal shooting gallery with Conviction. May Payne 2's ending credits said Max's journey through the NIGHT will continue, which was meant to be as literal as it was figurative
>t. only played 3 long enough to get to the flashback of Max fighting the My New Haircut guy from the meme in like 2008
