Remember when a single comment ETERNALLY ruined all the excuses of purported "arena shooter fans" worldwide? I 'member!
All they have left is "good arena shooters haven't come out since UT2004 ;^)" and other bullshit excuses. They know full wellReflexwas the best iteration of the CPM ruleset and with perhaps the best netcode in FPS history, they just pretend they're above it all as they open Counter-Strike for the billionth time

I don't need a new AFPS. Never did. Very happy to just jump into a ql freeze tag lobby or play out a set of straftat when i feel the rare urge to boot up. The seething and rage that surrounds this genre never hit me, I'm quite content as long as there's a lobby up

Arena Shooters are an invader genre that took over and weren't welcome.
>what if the side game that EVERY GAME ALREADY HAS was the main game and we just didn't make a real game at all, wouldn't that be profitable I mean fun
Complete garbage.

>good arena shooters haven't come out since UT2004
that's kinda true, UT3 and Quake 4 were shit and then we only got low effort low budget no marketing games with no content
we need a big AAA arena shooter by competent devs (and not hero shit)

QL was never massive and 90% of the playerbase was just playing CA on dm6. That was in 2010 and it just got worse overtime.
In tier 3 and 4 it was always the same name in west EU were the game was most popular.

>or with tiny concurrent playerbases of 100 or less
Yeah, that's me. I'm in that number. Not to mention like
1) Concurrent doesn't mean total unique players for the day
2) If each game has hundreds of players, that adds up pretty quickly to a sizeable, vocal niche
3) Lol get cancer and die

The examples are pretty gay desu
>Toxxik
Fucked things up royal by instituting a mark of shame and trying to limit access to the server browser if F2P, a far cry from how UT2004 Shareware was unrestricted, just that you only had Torlan and I think Primeval
>UT4 Alpha
Literally didn't even fully come out, that's why it's still called the Alpha. It had a lot of issues up until the day it was canned, and being behind the EGS was a big problem for it even back then
>Warsow
All the hype got tied to the fact that it was going to be on Steam thanks to the Greenlight program, only for them to flounder for years upon years and have internal trouble until someone said "fuck it" and put out Warfork long after interest died
>Quake Live
Undeniably fucky as shit, due to its web browser nature and shit UI, even before you get to loadout shit and what not, and the jump to a standalone client only lasted a certain amount of time before a price tag got slapped on it, defeating the purpose
The only ones that actually had a shot were Xonotic and Reflex, which is why Xonotic does get hundreds of players each day years later, and Reflex just fell out because it was hard for a lot of people to justify paying when Quake 3 was free

Was even a single one of these dedicated multiplayer shooters better than the multiplayer modes of games that became big by having actual campaigns? Just seemed like they were games with less. Going from Quake 1 and Quake 2 into Quake 3 immediately soured me on the concept, I can't lie.

I'm already there. It's a shame it just fell off for a while because they fucked up their updater and a lot of people couldn't even access the game.
I'm also hoping that once it's on Steam, hosting a dedicated server for it will be a lot easier. I always prefer to be able to host for my personal friend group when I can.

It is nothing like TF2 aside from aesthetics. What a surprise, you never even tried it or even bothered looking up gameplay. Also, TF2Classified is far better than regular TF2, so even if you just want your slow class based gameplay, a mod is better.

you know OP, you could just make a normal AFPS thread and people will post in it
i know all your inflammatory comments are just trying to drive engagement, but the average arena fan just won't give a shit either way and--as evident in these threads--will just talk about the games with just about any excuse
so you don't need to act like such a faggot to get what you want, you can just talk about the games too! :D

TF2 players don't actually enjoy Fortress-style games, they just like TF2. And if they can't bring their cosmetics, they're not changing games.

im too old for arena shooters.
When i was a kid i could play q3 for hours and hours but if i hop into quake live now my brain is fried by the 30 minute mark.
i dont think we'll see a game like quake make a comeback, the skill ceiling (the thing that made it so great) is way too high which makes newcomers suffer immensely the process of catching up to the pros.
Maybe something akin to UT2004, a hybrid between an arena shooter and a battlefield style game can pull it off, having objectives and teamwork blunt out a bit of the edge off of the high paced high skill frenetic shooting.

QL kicks out new players with low ELO lmao, arena shooters deserve to die
