Bart's Nightmare is so weird and bad because it was made by motherfucking Bill Williams. Seriously, look into Mindwalker, Necromancer, Knights of the Crystallion. They have this running theme of meshing several types of gameplay and abstract goals/progression. Alleycat is legit fun and kino, but you can see a bit of this in that game too.

PSP games have their resolution within crt range. It looks fine with those shaders. But LCD ones should be included as well, although it's increasingly harder to get things look right with them as your screen gets bigger. CRT shaders scale better in that regard. Also, the handheld had that AV out, if someone is nostalgic for that.

Looks to be the new replacement for DS4Windows. Redditors appear to be up in arms about it because it uses LLMs, but it seems like an alright successor that isn't paid like DSX.

Same, but getting mad for some pretentious heckin ethical reason is asinine. It's the next logical step in IT and one had better account for it or get left in the dust. Where were they when other jobs/tasks were trivialized by countless other innovations? Let's not pretend the IT industry was even remotely good for the environment before AI either. If their concerns get them the fuck off my internet at last, that works for me. It won't, though.

DS4Win is more than just a way to connect the controller to PC. It can convert it to dinput or xinput for games/emus that need one or the other. The controller can be remapped as you see fit (dpad <-> analog, any button to any other button) along with mouse/key binds, and it can detect game executables and switch profiles automatically. The deadzone and poll rates can be adjusted. The gyro can be fully tweaked and mapped. Selling it short is the same kind of smoothbrained way mids interpret Retroarch. Furthermore
>using Steam at all
fucked gross, vastly prefer DS4Win over that bloated consoomer garbage.

I'll further suggest FreePSXBoot and a real Playstation for PS1 if you're not that hardcore about it. This might seem like a more convoluted setup than just buying a Raspberry Pi but for those classic consoles on the Wii you get that sweet 240p output which makes it the obvious choice. It's cheap and hackable. You can probably get a Playstation pretty cheap too but you're going to need to fuck around with optical media or an ODE so perhaps that's a lot of effort for little gain?

Yes absolutely
King's Field 3 is likely the hardest of all 4 games to play without looking stuff up, and there's one thing (the wind crystal) that might trip you up in the beginning, but if you're not an idiot it's fine.

>Which cons does a rpi have in this scenario vs a wii?
For crts: Pi is cheaper and more practical, but limited; Wii is more expensive, some trouble to find the controllers and parts, but plays more games and have more useful homebrews.
No problem getting a Pi, but it's really limited. The Pi 4 is a bit better overall, but way worse for crts (still usable though). As long as you keep your expectations low, you'll be fine.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>565935251
Also, the truth is, to be completely honest, that I've been trying to get a Wii without much success.
All the ones I find at a reasonable price are totally wrecked, or come with fake Wiimotes, without sensor bar, etc. And the ones that are in relatively good condition (I don't care if they're pristine) go for around ~$180+..

You deserve the wall for being this much of a contrarian shitposter or this much of a diseased fan faggot for a terrible platform. (You)
The game has bad scaling baked right into it, slows down, and has terrible dithering and blocky lighting in spots because C team waterheads converted it with poor consideration for the machine. Let's not forget lower quality sound effects.
>>
>>
>>
>>565939397
>without major issues
And it's true: without *major* issues, but minor ones will happen regardless. For instance, SNES and Mega Drive will run fine, but the former will need to stick to Snes9x 2010 and the latter can't make use of the Nuked audio emulation. Is it the end of the world? No. Although it's a bummer to see it performing worse than your average cheap work PC. The Pi 4 solves those issues, but botches composite output. And, even if you're fine playing on an LCD screen with shaders, you're still practically stuck with up to PS1, just with better emulation and performance.
>>565940424
I believe you. Retrogaming hardware gets worse by the day, while still getting more expensive. Either you already have your setup from better days, or you need to be lucky. Frankly, the cost-effective current solution is a custom-built PC for emulation. If you just want systems from the CRT era, it's not expensive and doesn't need more than an iGPU.

Yeah, I didn't know about the rpi''s limitations (does the Wii support a better snes emu and the Genesis GX audio chip?)
Even so, the idea is to output to a CRT. With a pc I'm not sure how viable it is to get proper 240p output. I've seen some tutorials using an hdmi to YPbPr converter, but that means finding a CRT TV with component input, which just makes things more complicated...
>>
>>565944172
I can't say much about current emulation on the Wii. When I used it, more than a decade ago, it was on par with the Pi 3. Things may have gotten better, but I won't lie saying I'm sure of that. Virtual Console games work mostly fine though.
If you really want quality, then a PC coupled with a GPU possessing analog video out is the way to go. If you're more flexible, then get a digital-only PC and use some converter (quality will take a hit). If really just want some basic console, then the Pi 3 will suffice.
Another route is to build a MiSTer (or buy pre-built), but that too will demand some high bucks and research. Basically, crt gaming is becoming more and more of a niche thing, so it's becoming harder to have an easy solution for that.
>>
>>
>>565947938
>high bucks
A MisterPi w/ analog board is $170-190 depending on how much shit you want to come with it. Out of stock, though. A spare PC with an appropriate AMD card + transcoder isn't free either, but it is cheaper. A Radeon HD 7870 is doing well for me; it supports modern vulkan+drivers in troonix and outputs analog video. Those can be found for $20-30 on eBay. VGA to YPbPr transcoders run anywhere from $30-70. I see some chink ones on eBay for 30. They probably work. I have experience with the more expensive ones from wakabavideo. Then you can put it all on whatever ewaste board/case/PSU will take them.

There's a list of problems a mile long with the saturn version i've posted about a dozen times over the years. Everything from missing transparencies, incorrect aspect ratio so they stretched it out, slowdown, extra load times, missing levels, downsampled audio, etc etc etc.
It's on the castlevania wiki.
>>
>>
>>565902453
You need to fix the gamma up on that. The colours are extremely washed out. With arcade games, your gamma in mame should be set to 0.7. Otherwise your games look washed out like that.
Most shaders in retroarch will have a gamma option or some kind of black level parameter you can adjust. Colour/gamma correction in arcade games is absolutely essential, it's as essential as it is with GBA emulation.

No, they're not. It's measurably and demonstrably a worse looking, worse playing, worse sounding port with (somewhat) interesting new content. Anon, two questions regarding Dolphin:
Will it support Wii motionplus?
Do games that are not advertised as motion plus still use it if it’s available on the original hardware? If yes, will they work with Dolphin as well?

1. Dolphin says it does, though I never personally tested it.

Best you're gonna get is the original Steam release. Reception seems to be mixed on it, but I dunno how much they cleaned it up and improved it for Exa. The Exa deal, I believe, is that it has to have a suped up version with extra content in order to be on the platform. Consider Maldita Castilla EX in the meantime, or Volgarr the Viking.
The day this platform gets cracked and running through an x86 arcade loader TeknoParrot or something like what's available for Sega/Konami/Taito can't come soon enough. Fuck these people.

I'm expecting the same. Wouldn't be surprised if they bake it into the Qt7 roadmap to force a hardware/OS floor. If that happens, emu projects are just going to freeze their upstreams and park on Qt6 for a decade, exactly like the mess we had with the Qt5 to 6 transition.
heeltrick swapped Xenia Edge over to wxWidgets because it’s actually native and way snappier than Qt6. More projects should probably jump ship before the Win11+ enforcement starts. People are already fed up with Microslop’s bloat at this point.

I don’t give a fuck about "modern" gaming. Honestly, it’s just pure laziness. I’ve got years of muscle memory and habits tied to Windows-only apps (foobar2000, advancedrenamer etc); you don’t just swap that over in a day. I’ve been using Linux for 5–6 years now (mostly for KVM stuff with WM + terminal setups without a DE) but the full migration is a slow crawl. I’ll get there eventually.

I would like to say everything works, but older windows game( even on wine) sometimes struggle. Mods are also weird.
Linux is not a perfect solution but it will be able to be a great alternative to windows as the primary os for subscription computing by 2030 thanks to proton.

In my case, I needed for work. There was *that* one software upper management stuck to. Fortunately, I could do around 95% of my job on Linux, and that 5% from Windows could be done through a virtual machine with a clean ISO downloaded from Microsoft's website. So it was kinda smooth for me.
Unfortunately, there are some people who are cursed with software that are the norm for some jobs, like AutoCAD and ArcGIS. In their case, the alternatives aren't quite there, and there's a huge lobby to keep the proprietary versions being used. When I once had a job like that, I just swallowed the bitter pill and used Windows for work and Linux at home. The silver lining is that it was during the Win 7 era, when shit wasn't that bad.

That was the last straw for me too. I stayed on Win7 for the duration of Win10 because I thought that was the end of the road for me. I only updated to 10 once Qt6 and Win11 came out, mostly because newer nt-memoryapi functions and APIs like VirtualAlloc2 and MapViewOfFile3 were forced down our throats. But this is it. The wii version's translation is superior.
The vita translation is one of those pretentious, flowery and verbose translations where the translator wanted to show off his new thesaurus, and so they added 1000 times more words than was necessary.
More words does not make it better, it usually makes it worse because the phrasing is awkward and it destroys pacing and flow.

it's pretty shitty yeah. I've always been into the dreamcast and pso isn't one of the game I cared about. Yeah it's an online game, that's cool for the time.. but lmao good luck with the phone bill (at the time). You can play it online in better ways today (even on the DC version), but that doesn't make the game good, like anon say it's borderline idle

Broke ass nigger on neetbux here:
Does the 8BitDo 64 have gyro or six-axis support? I’m looking for a gamepad for gyro aiming and emulation. Right now, I have the 8BitDo Ultimate C Wired (no gyro), a Steam Controller (the original, with gyro, not bad for emulation but is not great), and a DualShock 4 V2 (perfect, but it shuts off by itself on Windows 10 despite troubleshooting with no solution). I was considering the 8BitDo M30, the Saturn-style one, which would be perfect with gyro but doesn’t have it. I’m not sure if the 64 model has built-in gyro since it’s also a Switch controller.
>>
>>566358318
Get the 8BitDo Pro 2. It offers the same features as the Ultimate 2C but comes with paddles instead of extra bumpers, and its layout resembles SNES/PS rather than Switch/Xbox.
8bitdo 64 has no shake to wake on Switch so I doubt it has gyro.

Librashaders can be applied via shaderglass with a frame of lag, and many CRT shaders are available via Reshade but it's far fiddlier to get good results (scanlines that line up, etc) ... so yeah, it kinda is. The benefit of 'shart shading is that it does all the scaling math for you. PC98 was a (semi) high res platform and the dithering will still be present even with CRT shading, as it was on hardware.unless you force the horizontal resolution/increase horizontal blur in the shader, or add a shader with an undithering algo like gdapt/sgenpt/cbod
>>
Starting to become a believer in Reshade because it now has Guest + Royale, and it doesn't add pacing/lag to the chain like ShaderGlass. Fucking Guest and it's color fuckery, though. The defaults should not fuck with contrast, temp, and gamma NEARLY this much.
>>
>>
>>
>>566379881
>even monitors those games were made for didn't blend everything
They didn't blend at all. They were RGB monitors.
Blending dithering is a modern thing. Back in the day, people just accepted it. Many PC and arcade games used blending and they all ran on RGB monitors.
>>
>>566382498
You have low standards. It's exceedingly dull.
People only like games like that and alundra because they're absolutely desperate for more zelda-like games.
>>566380119
CRT's can sync at whatever the refresh rate is. So there was absolutely no issues with systems that didn't output 60hz.
>>
>>
>>
>>566430645
I liked it more than Alundra because it didn't waste a lot of time on bad story. Was pure gameplay.
It also had very fast paced gameplay, which no zelda-like had back then + a big open world with lots of ways to explore everything.
>>
>>
>>566430456
It was absolutely something 15khz screens did with high res content regardless of the signal (see that Saturn fog ciggy spams all the time; even over RGB/component it's blended) and composite/RF did at 320x224 because the signal was so shit. I know you just want to bag on shaders as some sort of nu or reddit tech but fuck off with this revisionism. Was the blending perfect? Not exactly, it depended on the adjacent colors and had artifacts like fringing/rainbows, but it still blended.
>>
>>566430645
Hook up a 50hz/PAL system to an NTSC TV. See how far that gets you. The refresh rate (and resolution) range a 15khz TV will accept is pretty narrow, ackshully. 31khz monitors are far more flexible.
>>566380119
Old consoles didn't have a frame buffer as we know it in >=6th gen machines and modern computers. They wouldn't tear regardless of framerate/game performance, not unless the way the game rendered was inherently fucked. On 'modern' machines, there won't be tearing unless vsync/VRR is off. On 6th/7th gen you'd see games dynamically drop vsync and tear for performance reasons.
>>
>>566436583
Not really. Rgb is noticeably sharper on those systems and doesn't blend much at all. Devs used dithering on those systems because why not? Its not blending and making intermediate colors but at least you're forming some sort of gradient.
>>
File: sigarettenstank.jpg (349.0 KB)
>>566437740
448 absolutely blends on a 15khz CRT regardless of signal. I've seen this image in RGB for myself. As for composite/RF, far lower resolution meshes will start to blend or artifact. The intro to Zero Tolerance on Genesis blends and rainbows to shit and back. It does not look like a mesh at all.
>>
>>
>>
>>566442220
Yes, that one will show dithering because it has a proper high (sort of, 24khz) res monitor. However, to say that blending is some sort of nu thing across the board is wrong. I feel like this is a point you or someone else has tried to make before and it needs to be pointed out that it's false.
>>
>>566443051
Monitors are designed to be as sharp as possible because they are for displaying text. Nothing but the most garbage monitor should blend pixels. Especially a japanese one that needs to show kanji.
Also >>566438430
interlacing isn't blending. Blending is a different phenomenon.

Luna also wins out here. Beetle psx is mednafen but a year behind the standalone. Saturn is even worse.
>>566494453
Beetle psx "enhancements" are taken from the hw core and are buggy. You get the worst of both worlds with beetle sw if you are running non native.
>>
>>
>>566499147
From what I gather, try these:
1. Update your cores. Surprisingly, Beetle PSX is going through some changes recently.
2. To make sure you're loading the correct file, try using the "load content" option and manually select your game. If it's a bin/cue combo, then they all need to be inside the *same* folder and you need to select the cue one. Then, select the updated Beetle PSX core.
I'm not at home at the moment, but later on I'll give it a try and see if there's a problem here as well.

Beetle-PSX has been the best way to emulate PS1 from 2016 till this day
>>
>>566501884
>provide any concrete evidence where those supposed changes manifest
Check the psx bug lists on mednafen forum. Beetle psx has issues with games fixed in 1.22 mednafen.
Roswell and Transformers( not pure crash but has timing issues issues related to other bugs not present in mednafen) are obvious examples.
>not true
Obviously true. Where do you think those enhancement came from? They all came from the fork that would be called beetle hw.
>Beetle-PSX has been the best way to emulate PS1 from 2016 till this day
It is not best in any way shape or form.
If you want a generic enhanced emulation experience duckstation is prefered.
If you want the original experience mednafen is better.
Even xebra is better then beetle psx.
>>
>>566503546
So you're saying that beetle psx is bad because Roswell Conspiracies: Aliens, Myths and Legends and Beast Wars: Transformers or whatever the fuck have timing inaccuracies, which you assumed from reading bug reports on an older mednafen version and assumed they're also present in modern Beetle-PSX, but haven't actually tested it yourself? Is that correct?
>>
>>566503837
>Is that correct?
Of course not. I am saying it is bad because when testing said games( roswell music sound is immediately present in the first level) the issues were present.
So my claim that it is behind the standalone mednafen si true because issues fixed in 1.22 are present on beetle psx.
There Is a lot more stuff wrong with mednafen not documented and you sure as hell ain't getting the best experience by playing on a outdated fork.
>>
>>
>>
>>566504923
So according to your account, you've conducted a rigorous testing of plentitude of games on Beetle-PSX, found numerous inaccuracies (against duckstation or real hardware, hasn't been specified), opened no issues, documented nothing, then went to 4chan to warn people of its shoddy performance, providing no specifics? Am I understanding you correctly now?

Dictionaries/Databases are not context. If you think translating Japanese or any context heavy language is just matching words, then i understand why you think this is good enough.
The screenshots of black matrix are the perfect example. They do match words found in a dictionary, shame they kinda miss the point of what is actually being said or have bare minimum context forcing you to read it like engrish and decipher the meaning.

Yes, I use it mostly on gba, gb,nes games, for the shaders, and the compatibility with my controller (other emulators don't let me use the settings from the controller, like save slots).
>>
>>566559126
Wonder if you're running ahead, using hard vsync, frame delay, how have the audio latency set too low. May want to try different APIs. The guy's shitting. Swanstation is generally the preferred PS1 core in RA. Beetle's HW/high res core is janky IMO, and you may as well use Swan if you want upresulation. If you want a pure, optimized, software experience just get the plain Beetle PSX core, that's the software version. It's best to have both just in case one or the other has issues, though.

I didn't manage to find these settings, so I just went back to swanstation and did this >>566510290 and also, found that for whatever reason it was set as 9x scale, when my screen is just 1080, so I set it as 5x and those strange scanlines also dissapeared. Thank you all for your help.
Another thing I'd like to know is, which settings do I need to move to make my Final Fantasy 8 characters look like polygons? I think I saw someone doing this and the game looked pretty good on high resolution, instead of pixelated blobs.
>>
>>
>>
>>566579172
You just raise the rendering scale, simple as that. However, if you have any kind of taste at all you'll find the low rest 240p backgrounds and high res models to be tacky as fuck. What I instead suggest is render 8x or 4-8x and downsample (all from the swanstation core options). It'll still look a bit pixely, but it'll be less jagged and more cohesive overall. This combined with a CRT shader looks pretty good to me. However, I'm sure all you're really asking for is raising the res scale.

UIX Desktop/Theseus is adding retroarch support
it's still a little buggy, but it looks like if you want an Xbox Launcher on your pc, this is a killer app for your retro games.
It has a customizable skin and now features steam/retroarch importing.
you can grab it here: https://github.com/MrMilenko/Theseus/releases
it also works on the original xbox and can attach to xemu. they're currently working on trying to get the launcher to work on xbox 360 and might have a Blades dashboard soon
i can't reccomend this app enough.
>>
>>566648138
Never got the whole "opening files with extra, prettier steps" thing. I'd rather just search using Everything and drag files into what I need or open it right from there with a direct association.
Pro-tip: when you have 'sharts open, you can drag a rom file into it and it'll prompt you to select a compatible core.

I’ve never understood the appeal of frontends that merely simulate (not emulate) a console’s dashboard; it feels pretty lame to me. Why not just emulate the actual dashboard directly? Emulators like Xemu, Xenia Canary/Edge, PCSX2, Azahar, Eden, Flycast, MelonDS DS (and more) are already capable of emulation/booting dashboards and home menus, and most even support 'insert disc/cartridge' functionality.
If you need a launcher for organizing your ROMs/Mags/Discs and shiet with scrapper, just use a proper frontend like Launchbox, ES-DE, or the emulator's native Qt interface. What’s the point of using a skin that just mimics the look of a dashboard when you can have the real thing at this point?

The standalone versions are also still very much alive so I don't get your paranoid take on this. I also think "peak" Retroarch has kinda come and gone. I think we're seeing a return to standalone emulators and RA has gotten about as good as it's going to get.
>>
>>566558295
RA has some nice features that plenty of standalone emulators lack. I've been fiddling around with the netplay features recently and it makes it very simple to connect with friends over the internet for example. My personal grievance with it is the absolute headache of a UI that you have to deal with. Some emulators on android are even worse than retroarch so I keep having to deal with two different options of really shitty tradeoffs and having to wrestle my way through the clunky interface

Decomps are less limited in terms of modding, and if done correctly also take less power to run and have less lag as well since they don't have to deal with the overhead of emulating an entire console. Probably not the best option if you want a purist experience, though.

Both Playnite and ES-DE are strictly frontends. They do not come with built-in emulators. Instead, they act as a "command center" that sends a signal to open the standalone emulators you already have installed on your comput
Here is how they handle your standalone emulators:
Playnite (The "Manual Linker")
Playnite is designed to be very flexible with standalone apps.
How it works: You point Playnite to your emulator’s .exe file (e.g., pcsx2.exe or dolphin.exe).
Customization: You can provide specific "Arguments" (command lines) to tell the emulator to start in fullscreen, use a specific save file, or even exit when you press a certain button on your controller.
Automatic Detection: It has a built-in "Configure Emulators" tool that can scan your PC and automatically set up profiles for most popular standalone emulators.
ES-DE (The "Folder Watcher")
ES-DE expects things to be in a very specific order to keep things clean.
How it works: It uses a configuration file that has "pre-written" instructions for almost every major standalone emulator.
Ease of Use: If you have a standalone emulator installed in its default location or added to your system's path, ES-DE usually "just knows" how to launch it without you typing any code.
Alternative Emulators: If you have multiple emulators for one system (e.g., both DuckStation and SwanStation for PS1), you can simply toggle between them in the ES-DE menu.
Which should you choose based on this?
Choose Playnite if you have your emulators scattered across different folders or drives and want to manually link them exactly how you like.
Choose ES-DE if you are willing to move your files into the specific folders it asks for in exchange for a setup that feels more automated and "console-like."
Since you'll be managing standalone emulators yourself, do you already have a preferred folder where you keep all your .exe files, or are you starting from scratch?

Yes it can do that, and it would work to delete all your personal files, retard
Only "/" is protecting by --no-preserve-root, "/*" is different and will delete everything your user has write permission on, which let's be honest, is everything that matters, no one gives a fuck if you delete /usr, it's your personal files, your web browser profiles, pictures of your dead grandma, fap folder, etc.

You're missing the bigger picture bro. Zionists, Evangelical Christians vs. globalist Soros/WEF types are all part of the same machine. Global Jewry has multiple competing factions, but they're all playing for the same team in the end. That's why the pendulum swings but the outcome is always the same: you and your people get fucked for another decade (again and again)...
We don't need another "based" moderate. We need actual radicals willing to burn the establishment down. A lot of people thought 2016 Trump was that guy. But he was always a moderate pro-market, capitalist, economically liberal with a "right-wing" aesthetic.

>You're no better than the nigger who licks the ice cream and puts it back in the store freezer. No wonder some people just move to cabins to deal with as few people as possible.

yesterday i finished programming my BYOND script that can grab all games from all your emulators and put them into UIX Desktop/Theseus, the new Xbox Original Dashboard launcher for Windows/Linux/MacOs.
unfortunately my script only works for windows right now.
pic related is the app. i plan on releasing the source code for it and maybe someone out there can port it to linux, i dunno.

I've seen, in a freaking college, a professor admonishing a student, because the latter made a video essay using 4:3 footage. However, it was a from an old TV show, before the 16:9 norm, and the student explained that. The professor fully understood, but still defended that stretching makes the vertical black bars disappear and gives the video a more professional look. And that's what some people think. What to do?

i think it might have been borderless gamings fault
i noticed when fast forwarding i was locked to 120fps despite turning the limiter off and i couldnt exit fullscreen mode
closed that program and now my fast forward works and so far no hitches

and I thought I was the only one
I swear it started around the time of
https://github.com/PCSX2/pcsx2/pull/14188
It feels like this causes shader compilation hitches, unlike the old version, which used the hardware sampler
