Playing Touhou Shoujo Tale of Beautiful Memories AKA Super Mario RPG but Touhou and it's very fun. The jumping sword fairies and Youmu as stand-ins in a way for the Shysters and Mack was cute, and they even sneaked in a PC-98 character. Reimu definitely does not want to remember the ending where Kotohime locked her up.

Your problem is perspective. You want to discuss the games now that you are playing them. But its likely that you wouldn't have been on shmup forums and you likely wouldn't have contributed much to any gameplay discussion. No offense, but thats how it is for most of us.

You should be very grateful that there is 30 years of questions answers and guides out there for every single 2hu and arcade shmup you could dream of. There's not much left to talk about. But the resources are there for you to enjoy the games to the fullest.
All the fun I've had with shmups was me alone in a dark room and I rarely told anyone about it. Still some of my favorite memories.

When I said that I was thinking more about consuming than participating, and I'm less concerned about answers/guides than I am about people sharing their own thoughts/experiences. I don't look up guides of games, I beat them on my own then look for what other people thought. So what I would like to see is people sharing their progress and experiences attempting 1ccs/LNBs/whatever. Reading other people's thoughts on stuff I've done is just interesting and I like doing it. I'm not particularly concerned with like trying to contribute myself or make a single player game a social experience in general.
