Thanks UE 5, very nice usage of my 6800XT, also using fsr 4 via optiscaler because the hair looks horrendous with xess/fsr that are available ingame.
Though I'm getting over 70fps in dungeons and the gpu is sitting at nice 99% usage.

I'm running a game via wine/proton (tried multiple runners through lutris) and it seems to be just spawning a MicrosoftEdgeUpdate process that sits silently. What do I do? I recently encountered a utility that ran a not silent edge-kit-related installer and then just crashed at runtime afterward. Seems like this API might be the latest jackass developer cancer following in the footsteps of JRE and python version-specific fuckery.

Same 2bh. I work part time, it's enough for my own lifestyle + taking the gf out for dinner on weekends. I could be earning twice if I worked more hours. But when will I live my life at that point
>>
>>566713743
I wish I could work less but for me its less about the hedonic treadmill and more about the rat-race/survival treadmill, I have no problems doing 40 hours a week and doing my projects on the side, in fact, I got rid of all my friends to do that but unfortunately as my parents age they are becoming more demanding and more time consuming to take care off because despite neither of them working, they still refuse to read computer manuals, or google problems, or attempt to solve it on their own. I can understand a call about moving something heavy or getting something out the attic or heavy yardwork like removing a stump, but as soon as they face any sort of technology inconvenience they just call me and want it solved asap. They are just incapable to learn about technology, which is weird, cause my dad works in technology but has no idea how networking, phones, or tvs function.

wine + winetricks. all the guides used that. the problem with most guides was that the game and the launcher work but all the supporting applications didn't, or at least not all of them. i tried proton. i tried bottles (after i got it 100% working through wine + winetricks) and couldn't get it to run there at all. idk. maybe i am too stupid to use their application. their app looks like shit anyways on kde. don't know what umu with proton is. wine with winetricks gave me more control to get everything working. i wrote down the minimal amount of libs i need to get everything working and to not break the prefix. made a backup of my prefix and also wrote down the right reg keys. most guides also tell you to install ole32 or smth which just breaks the cardimagereplacer or a .net version that breaks charedit. btrfs breaks mods because it's case sensitive. wrote down how to create an ext4 image and format it to allow for case insensitivity.

wine likes starting the game.exe in it's folder. when you use wine /path/to/vidya/game.exe it will start in the shell's starting directory (usually /home/user). wine start /unix /path/to/vidya/game.exe works better.

honestly. it's kinda fun. having a menu for all the tools is very cool. on windows i would have just created a folder with a few shortcuts, which looks like ass thanks to windows 11 and its retarded start menu. xbox gamemode is just windows without the webcrap they added with windows 11. windows 11 is the reason i got a low memory warning in half-life alyx all the time. had to look up how to view what takes up all my vram on a 16gb gpu btw. thanks microsoft, because their webshit took all my vram. i reinstalled windows 10 to see and it went away. it did. installed windows 11 and it came back. stopped and removed all of it and it was all good again. dogshit experience. webshit was a mistake. being a retard is easy. accepting all of this is easy.

Well game works. It defaulted to Extreme settings on my GPU, but I turned them down to Ultra and enabled FSR4 quality to get high fps at 4k.
But these slowdowns are annoying. What are they? Shader compilation? Doesn't look like it. I had similar issue in FH4 and Linus Racemizing Tips had this in FH5 on a Steam Deck. I've read that it's connection issues but idk.
Anyway, another Day 0... oh, excuse me, Day -7 title on Linux

Forgot to tell: game works only when you add it as a non-steam game, even UMU_USE_STEAM=1 env var doesn't help for some reason when running from Lutris.
I've set AI to some higher difficulty, but they still seem to struggle with sharp turns.

Plebbitors recommend using Proton Experimental but game runs just fine on Proton-Cachyos, allowing using FSR4 upgrade (it's even recognized in game settings) and HDR.
But slowdowns/stutters are annoying. Maybe it's a game issue and will be fixed with next game/crack versions?

>just noticed the Brigador Killers demo is out

Poop.
Apparently the game is developed on Linux, and it sounds like it might get a native Linux port eventually, so I'll wait and see. I'm still going to play it eventually even if I have to use Wine/Proton, but I think I'll be willing to pay more for a native build.
>>
>>
>>566792550
Yeah, it make sense. I just hope they don't change their minds about ever supporting Linux and end up doing the old "dude it works with proton :)" next time someone asks. The current comment on OS support in their recent itch.io FAQ is as follows:
>Only Windows for the time being. The game is made in a Linux environment and can run on Linux (such as through using WINE) but your mileage may vary. We have not yet tested it to run on a Steam Deck. Mac support is not on the cards but this may change depending on how well things go.
I read that as leaving open the possibility of native Linux support later on, given that only the idea of Mac support is getting explicitly shat on (and this is despite Mac also having Wine so I don't think mentioning Wine rules out Linux support either).

>>566795102
There's also this developer comment on Steam which, I think, implies a native Linux port (unless "mark the actual release officially as running on Linux" is just referring to getting a Deck Verified rating... which might actually be the case, considering he's replying to a post which is obviously just about using Proton to run the demo).
>>
>more forza slop
they should make a new motorsport that doesn't suck instead. the new forza looks just like the old forza so it probably still has all the same issues and bad design decisions like the past games. i wish gran turismo was available on pc. it would mog modern forza games so fucking much microsoft would fire the whole studio and never talk about forza again.

If you want a program to be executed with a specific location as its current working directory, wouldn't using the desktop entry's Path field be the more straightforward way to do that?

This retard at it again.
And again he managed to fucked up 3 times in a row. Somehow he broke capture method detection in OBS so he couldn't record/stream his screen on Kubuntu with KWin Wayland. I think he did something bad on purpose because I've used Kubuntu 5 years ago and OBS screen capture worked just fine on Wayland session and OBS was smart enough to present proper capture methods depending on which session you were using.

I listened to it at work and he had a handful of bad points but I think the most important and probably truthful thing I had to admit he is right is that if you don't want to make a hobby out of tinkering and fixing your system, Linux isn't for you. Also, I think he is right that some of the software and GUI elements are either straight up broken or needlessly complicated. I don't get why people just ship Linux with a WM or a custom CLI.
>>
>>
>>566828839
I don't see how this invalidates my point, we both know if you want to chmod something the gui shits out and sometimes doesn't work on Mint so you have to do it via terminal. But good on you btw, Mint is a great little distro that is the closest to the polish that Windows has, I love that little distro despite it running on the older side of things.

I've reconsidered my position about webm resolutions.
Previously I used to just pass source material resolution and let encoder decide which information to throw away. Sounds good in theory but 2K webms with 300 kbps bitrate didn't really look good lol.
Now I've introduced dynamic resolution to my webm script: it will change output resolution based on target bitrate. Currently, there are next target resolutions:
< 400 kbps 480p
400–900 kbps 720p
900–1800 kbps 1080p
> 1800 kbps -> 2048p (4chan maximum webm frame size)
Reference bitrate values were taken from DeepSeek and are subjected to change. Given bitrate is calculated from video length 2048p video shouldn't exceed ~18s, 1080p ~36s, 720p ~80s and anything longer would be 480p.
I haven't updated the repo yet, I'll apply the patch when I get home from work.

/vr/ is heavily moderated so if you mention anything non-retro, even if it's in passing and on-topic, they will give you a vacation. No, you can't even briefly mention changes from a remake a of a retro game like Metroid 2 Samus Returns in a Metroid thread.

Kinda sorta, I've realized that it does attract a lot of consumer bugpeople types that want to flex their wealth or their gamer cred but there are still fairly normal people who also play retro games, in fact, I'd say that the majority of gaming is retro if you consider 10 years ago retro because that's the average age of a game being played on stream since the last platform overview last year.
