Except he doesn't fucking exist, he never has, Toby isn't le epik tweest master. The greatest twist Toby could ever pull is not fucking pulling any twists. Dess is the Knight, Asriel is at college, Kris isn't the Vessel, Hometown isn't a simulation/fake/a dream.
reminder that if your "theory" raises more questions than it answers than it's not a theory and if you just make up fanfic answers to those questions it's also not a theory it is currently impossible to have a real theory of who, what, and why the knight is

>>566754058 >Hometown isn't a simulation/fake Ok but it literally is though from the players perspective and remember we are a character in the story too. Also it's another Mother 3 twist for Toby to nab.
DessKnight is what you get when you give players a deer shaped clue in a story with a deer shaped hole. DessKnighters are so stupid and illiterate they can't think two steps ahead to see that their theory explain nothing, kick the can down the road and thus fail to fulfill the definition of "theory" in the first place while also ruining both mysteries of "Who is the knight?" and "What happened to Dess?" It's literally just morons clapping their hands to the intellectual equivalent of jingling keys because they are incapable of grasping the overarching story and the themes woven into the main mystery. It's okay if you don't understand, not everyone has to have a reading level above 5th grade but if you want to try your hand at puzzles, something like pic related might be more your speed.
>The real mystery to the Knight isn't their identity but what exactly happened to make them like that, That's the fucking problem you absolute hylic lobotomite skinvelope. If your "theory" creates more questions than answers while having zero proof and a mountains of evidence that contradict it that means it's not even a theory to begin with. From the very beginning of the game the story is set up as a whodunit where you're repeatedly reminded that the knight is a lightner you can recognize from their face and this is something Kris doesn't want you to do. You're telling me that the big knight identity reveal was the end of CH3 which absolutely destroys the entire mystery set up over almost a decade, mixing it together with another ongoing mystery and thus diluting them both of their narrative compellence while completely and utterly destroying the stakes of the knight reveal. Saying that Dess is the knight and what really matters is finding out how that happened explains nothing and kicks the can down the road. You not being able to see the logical conclusions of your own statements are really telling.
>>566754719 I say he's shartycore because he's obsessed with getting reactions out of people while also morally grandstanding whenever possible. Honestly I think there are enough people on the internet for him to a-log that he wouldn't need to jump to murder, the risk/reward would be off
>>566755394 Ok Mr Intellecutal who is the Knight then? What would be a satisfying answer to who is the knight and what happened to Dess? You must have one since you seem to think it's so obvious that anyone intelligent would know that it's obviously not Dess so go ahead and take your shot.
>he's the only character we know with a Black Shard >chapter 2 computer lab closet specifies a LARGE person could easily fit inside >phonecall kris has with the voice on the phone in the holiday mansion says "i'm on my way" and asgore immediately shows up >deals way less damage against kris in their battle, and spares them instead of swooning in the cutscene >tells sans he's been talking with his flowers and asking them for advice >his fridge can turn eggs into pickles (funniest shit i've ever seen) >very close with rudy, so he has a strong motive to find some way to heal him >never sells his flowers despite owning a flower shop (busy with something more important than losing his house?) >has the code to the shelter, which requires having the code from toriel, carol, and the police (asgore is very familiar with all 3)
Personally, I think any theory that brings up Undertale for whatever reason (as an example, as a reason, as a parallel, as an endpoint, etc) is wrong and should be ignored 100% of the time. Undertale is meant to be forgotten and replaced by Deltarune, it's literally just a glorified beta test for the real story Toby wanted to tell, and both its characters and storyline have nothing to do with Deltarune's besides some familiar faces showing up.
>>566756129 >>phonecall kris has with the voice on the phone in the holiday mansion says "i'm on my way" and asgore immediately shows up Actually it says "... I'll be... right there..." and notably every other instance of ... from the phonecall voice has implied missing words
>>566755394 >absolutely destroys the entire mystery set up over almost a decade Brainlet way of looking at the game. The mystery has to play the same for players in the future who have only played 10 hours as well as the fanatics who have been waiting since the start. Just because a mystery solution is obvious if you've read every line of text and seen every secret doesn't mean that it's too obvious to be true. Thinking Deltarune was meant to be a whodunnit is just a fundamental misreading you had waiting for Chapters after Chapter 2 rather than intentional from Toby. It was never meant to be a whodunnit and you just can't move on from that idea despite it being not true.
>>566756157 why would there be connections between the two games if toby fox didn't want his players to understand that these games are related on some level i'm not interested in changing your mind but there's a reason the developer has stated that it's best if you play Undertale before Deltarune. Deltarune was deliberately created and could only exist within the context of Undertale
Undertale exists so that when there's a Gerson boss fight you start jumping up and down and pointing at the screen and howling like an ape Therefore Undertale will still be important because for Gerson Deltarune to be cool requires Gerson Undertale to matter
>>566756475 people like that always have some weird hangup about the game or its creator that makes them ignore obvious shit because it doesn't fit their view of things
if someone says that you can't touch your friend without being gay that means the poster has never been touched by someone who wasn't trying to fuck them that's so sad
>>566755297 It's fake from a literal perspective. But it's not fake from a narrative perspective. If you are meant to pretend Gaster is the one speaking to us on Twitter, you are meant to pretend Deltarune connects you with a real place, at least for the time you are playing the game.
Having something like "Hometown is fake" would make people stop giving as much of a fuck, it's a psychological switch off and if Toby does any twists, he's not going to do something that risks how much people will care about the game and its characters.
>>566756840 I would like a fangame where you do a whole Dark World adventure from the perspective of a non-human without any sort of angel soul, but the game somehow conceals the fact you're playing as a Darkner the whole time and it's the big reveal once the human in your party seals the fountain
>>566756859 meta twists and fourth wall breaks are so integrated into the story that there's no way it can have an ending without them, it doesn't really make sense for it to that said i do think it's possible for the world and characters to have closure without meta shit, i mean Undertale was a meta game and you have a happy storybook ending there, it's just that if you open the game after it you're told through the 4th wall playing the game again would undo said ending. what i'm trying to say is that toby fox is good at reconciling traditional and meta narratives so there may be a happy ending but it can't exist outside of a meta one too
>>566757238 Sans will look at the Roaring and go "like zoinks man i gotta get outta here" and exit the frame and then fly across the screen on a sci-fi contraption and then will not appear for the rest of the game
It would be incredibly fucking lame if "the banishing of the Angel's Heaven" was just closing the game I'm not shartsader and I'm not complaining that "durrr they're not banishing the angel's heaven anymore toby changed the story" I just think it'd be really gay if THAT was what it meant all along
instead of gerson showing up to fight the titan it should have been jackenstein he sees everyone failing to outdamage the titan's healing and says YOURE TAKING TOO LONG
>>566757671 The only idea I've seen or had that makes sense is that the Angel is the Player and "Our Heaven" is supposed to be Castle Town. Us getting banished is the soul being thrown into castle town and locked in there forever, along with castle town itself. Maybe there's a game crash in the process but opening the game lets you do everything Castle Town would otherwise let you do, replay all the old minigames, talk to your recruits, maybe even a boss rush, you just cant leave and you have to accept the happy ending being implied, which is where Weird Route is meant to come in where you deny your role in the story and force it on someone else
>>566757526 see this is what i mean, you operate off of a flawed premise not actually indicated by anything ("Undertale is meant to be forgotten and replaced by Deltarune") and then scold Toby Fox because you think it's true. just constructing a strawman and beating it while masturbating
>>566758019 That could be interesting. But then there’s the issue of castletoen still existing. Does it get moved anywhere? People still need to use the school closet.
Fact: Toby made a real Mettaton NEO fight and a cool ass battle against Gerson that people wanted from Undertale because he fucking hates Undertale and anyone who liked it and wanted to tell them that things can only be cool if they're done in Deltarune instead
I don't think Weird Route is supposed to really be about the player trying to break the prophecy Firstly we can take on Weird Route before even seeing the end of the prophecy and it's not Toby's style to assign motivation on the player like that Secondly the whole route is predicated on us following Kris's lead and picking options they're giving us even if we initially get the ball rolling by commanding Noelle to use ice magic, the focus seems to be way more on Kris's desires and motivations and the player-player character connection than the prophecy
>>566758262 The fountain would be gone, Castle Town only exists in the perspective of it's Angel now. The "implied happy ending" the player has to accept is actually twofold, because the Lightners have to accept that Castle Town still exists when they cant see or visit it anymore unless one of them is particularly upset by the events that unfolded in the Light World and decides to actually stay in Castle Town as it's sealed coughcoughsusiecough
asgore will be the next lightner we can kill, because he was set up as being overly pushy and annoying just like berdly, so killing him will bring a similar sense of regret for people who wanted to kill him in the normal route finally getting what they asked for
>>566759313 because of this i think it's more likely that weird route for asgore would involve controlling him with a 'control crown'. i bet kris would like asgore's behavior to change
>>566758514 Kris actually wants the Weird route this is why they removed the thorn ring from Noelle and told her to not say anything and why they have a PTSD freakout after you put it back on. It makes so much sense.
Every time I refresh and one of doomba's worthless jelqposts vanishes, I get a little harder. I hope you're really cool and unbothered and smug about this >>566759117 You're talking about yourself aren't you (Not that I don't get it)
How come you can casually talk about Player being the Angel with no resistance and without anyone reminding you there's hints to Noelle being the Angel but if you assume the Knight is Dess you're immediately met with NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO THAT'S NOT CONFIRMED YOU'RE FALLING FOR LE RED HERRING IT COULD BE RUDY IT COULD BE CAROL SHE HAS A SWORD WHAT IF IT'S [gagshit NPC no one cares about] WHAT IF
>>566759757 Kris has been shown to be able to ignore our commands when they really want to Kris follows Weird Route commands to a tee "The SOUL made me do it" won't fly as a defense when the time comes
if toby was based the weird route would be about forcing kris to listen to you instead of mindbreaking their dumb lesbian friend, i want kris to wear my fucked up torture ring, not her
chapter 5 snowgrave will be when we take full control of noelle and she becomes the new vessel we play as for the rest of the game that will be our kris fight
>>566760196 >if you draw ralsei as a silly cute feller like he is in the game instead of a smug fuzzy weed smoking femboy cwitter that doesn't resemble him at all you don't like him as a character veeery telly telly
>>566759948 Everyone is metapilled so all conversations take into account that the game ends with Gasterman suckling on your nipples in real life and Susie calling the player a faggot before blowing up their computer
>>566760287 >>566760378 the twisted sword has a "trance down" effect in contrast to the thorn ring's "trance up" if anything it'd allow kris to resist our command further
>>566760470 This is also why Dess Knight is so highly refuted because people think Dess's role in the story is supposed to be The Character Who Got Glitched Into The Video Game Coding after watching too many Chapter 2 era theories saying that's all she can be
>>566760684 >the twisted sword has a "trance down" effect in contrast to the thorn ring's "trance up" You've been mandingo affected. Thorn Ring and Twisted Sword both have just "Trance" as their effect name. The icon on the ring is a circle, and the icon on the sword is a downward arrow(or pointed tail)
>>566758514 >Not Toby's style to assign motivation on the player Mainly have two things to consider because I mostly get behind it but: >1: Genocide The game does paint it as you doing it from curiosity even if the reason might've been for the game's best music/boss fights. Or Dog forbid, Chara autism. >2: DR is incomplete Toby's Team, especially with the bit of dev hell from Chapter 3/4, could be focusing on making sure the chapters are complete even if some things won't make sense til the end. How we got the Rose even though they deemed it necessary to swiftly remove it of their own volition (perhaps in an earlier script of the weird route, the rose made more sense than the crack we got now). Weird Route could still be about the player trying to break the prophecy even if it won't make sense with how we're experiencing DR through the chapter format (if x chapter has weird route, lets put that content in and make sure its all functional even if just theory food until ch7 in 2030 so that we don't functionally have to make two games at once, first completing base DR and then do the process with all weird route content). ... I hope I explained my logic here because I do think there's a chance it has merit but also felt hard to put into words.
>>566760791 Doomer had to do his artschizo/artstomping bit for some random wacky ralsei picture condescendingly saying that if you draw ralsei as a silly chibi character you're a fake fan, anons are mocking him because the ralseis he posts are wildly offmodel and OOC because he is the actual fake fan and is projecting. Post is kill because he keeps getting flushywushied.
>>566755394 >>The real mystery to the Knight isn't their identity but what exactly happened to make them like that, I think i'm the one who initially posted this opinion alot sorry for schizopilling this guy i guess
the knight's identity is the casual mystery. anyone who's solved it then has the mystery of how that happened, and the how is Dessel (Dess using the Vessel)
party of three "heroes" spanton as the protagonist, starting out society for letting him end up how he did, but gradually learning to open himself up to others bit by bit, and that the greatest deal of all is friendship tenna as rival and frenemy to spamton, with positive interactions that let him work as the goku to spamton's vegeta
but here's the question: who should the third party member be? who has a personality that bounces off spamton and tenna well, and could have an interesting character arc to follow?
>>566762193 1 I hate when people have fun 2 I hate when people like popular faves 3 I hate when people like popular faves 4 I hate when people receive gifts

>>566763345 I used to be accepting of all trans people but after enough direct exposure to them online I have recognized that most of the ones you meet on places like discord are very dubious. At this point I can't blame a person for being suspicious.
Mad Mew Mew leaves me with a weird feeling because anime catgirl transwomen are the least trustworthy kind and I think being blindly wholly accepting this is a misstep because the internet has caused a lot of people to act in unhealthy ways Said Moldsmal
>>566763687 >would be interesting to see how they act with no player They wouldnt, thats the whole point I figured. Whether its to do the right thing or do the very wrong thing, Kris needs that kick in the ass that is a Player to be willing to do ANYTHING
>>566763345 nta you don't have to agree with a media's politics in order to enjoy it hell, plenty of leftists like it despite wanting it to be over the top obnoxious
>>566765441 I think I kind of hate how the big compelling theory swirling around that fandom is something I was able to infer conclusively as early as episode 1 just from the first scene. That show is so disappointingly shallow. Like she gets there with a headset that can't be removed, which can only reasonably mean: 1. Her physical body is in a coma/died/atrophied into a shell and her mind traveled to the game 2. She was copied into the game 3. The headset is locked/fused on
1 and 3 very quickly fall apart when you start thinking about it all. There isn't anything to this. Get a real mystery Also the characters should have been able to deduce this years ago by just talking and thinking about it. They have all the time in the world to do so and it is fundamentally important to their existence so they should care about working it out
>>566761170 >1: Genocide I think "experiencing all the coolest content" can be rolled into the curiosity angle Although I'll admit there's a few players who play genocide for reasons like "I want to play the bad ending first" or "I was just grinding and the game got spooky" or the CoL-like "I must take vengeance on the monsters and/or Toby Fox" but those are real outliers
>2: DR is incomplete It IS incomplete, but I think the incompleteness has been integrated into the game experience for better or for worse The way Weird Route is currently set up it works both as setup and as payoff: Think about the rose example, it's something that will presumably make sense when you've played through Normal Route, but playing Weird Route as Chapters are released means it becomes setup for whatever flower-themed bullshit we're about to run into Similarly, Weird Route can work both as something Kris wants to do and we allow because we're curious and as something we want to do after seeing the normal route ending and Kris's desires just happen to align to give us the perfect buttons for it
>>566766225 it's kind of ridiculous that the characters were in there for years and years and only started figuring out and doing basic things once the main character arrived.
>>566766225 why do you assume it's a secret, or that it even matters, why she's there? there was an episode that namedropped most of the theories to make fun of them you don't watch a romance movie and assume she's gonna end up with the janitor instead, that's not really why youd watch a romance movie, you just watch it to see the situation unfold

>>566766723 Because I can tell it's something they're going to make a scene of in the final episode, and because I think this show is underwhemingly thin on ideas, and because I think it's really dumb that half hour (or longer) long theory videos get made about stuff with as much depth as what I just brought up and this is just the way the fans are fine with engaging with the show and the show seems to expect this and work with it
>>566766952 >>only starts questioning where she is in Chapter 1 when the player arrives the text spamton says in his shop in chapter 2 and the unused text is exactly the same in the japanese, he's quoting her directly

>>566767589 gaster is associated with the code. all i'm saying is that this isn't a digital circus situation and there's nothing confirming the calls for help in the code began in Chapter 1. they could've happened a long time ago
>>566767849 this would be a fine plot point if it happened in the middle of the series and we got to see the character development beyond it, but wasting your entire show with completely stagnant characters building up to a "well okay whatever" ending is STOOPID!
>>566767992 I think we've been misunderstanding each other, the point I've been making is that they could easily be "flashbacks" to the past that aren't meant to take place alongside the concurrent story I just don't view it as someone being trapped in "the code" in a meta sense. The dialogue is in the code because that's where all dialogue is stored, it's just faux-unused strings and the code itself is not necessarily diegetic
>>566767374 >something better It's called "going outside". Socializing on 4chan is garbage, even in generals like this, that have disproportionate concentrations of women.
>>566768973 No, what sucks are all the chumps trying to inject themselves into my Deltarune and trying to pass themselves off as an inseparable experience.
>>566767321 I think it's a nice detail too. The weird bond they have is strangely endearing. The most powerful moment of Kris characterization to me so far is when they see nothing's happened after inserting Spamton into the NEO body, so they tap it, then shake it, hit hit, and kick it, trying to get him to activate. It's good stuff.
is gerson supposed to be an insanely easy fight compared to the other secret guys, or did I just get way better at the game from beating knight the day before
>>566769858 This. I really didn't mind but if I were grumpier and less trusting in tobysan's vision I might find it in myself to be disappointed by how easy it was
>>566769858 The fights designed so you take less damage every time you get hit because Gerson's training Susie. If you get hurt enough he just starts doing 1 damage I never did it though because the Knight made me ragequit secret bosses for a while
>>566770220 that game looks kinda interesting but i know the creator is some kind of heh freak so i was hesitant to check it out kris would definitely be an herbivore of some kind so they can eat the moss
>>566769254 >(You tapped the mechanism.) >(... Nothing happened.) >(You shook the mechanism.) >(You hit it.) >(You kicked it.) >(...) >(Nothing happened.) See, posts like this are the reason I come here. Something that puts my cortex in a vortex. Kris WANTS it to work. Because he KNOWS.
>>566768703 cool, I'm very addicted to mewgenics. 250 hours in. my house is full with chris chan voiced cats and the caterminator is coming for my ass because I killed Hitler.
>>566766096 The music in this is really nice. I like how it messes with the snowdin forest music, but I don't even know how I would describe the unique emotional quality it developed
faves personally thinks the concept of the weird route is a reference to the concept of the weird machine: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weird_machine fave doesnt think its being done by the player for any one reason in the story (such as making noelle stronger so that she could fight a really strong boss later on or something) fave thinks the player is just along for the ride in the weird route, and anything that occurs as a consequence in the route is just that, a consequence for taking this weird route in this weird game
>>566757671 >just closing the game Heaven is where Angels live together, so banishing the Angel's Heaven would mean all players are no longer able to connect to the world of Deltarune. But the end of the prophecy is to be avoided anyway, so we'll work together to unbanish ourselves.
Fave thought it was a weird coincidence how Undertale 10th anniversary made him look up Plato's allegory of the cave because he'd never heard of it before, and then not too long after TADC also referenced a thought experiment Fave never heard of called the Chinese Room
fave thinks the concept of the player being the angel is retarded, and if this ends up being true, fave will make a tobysoft game of their own just to have a scene in it where fave mocks that particular potential plot twist
>>566774489 I think it's incredibly fucking cool and when I realized that the top-down perspective is us looking down at the world and Alvin references it when he says "May the angel watch over you" I pogged and was obsessed with it for weeks straight (the obsession but also the pogging I mean)
MY fave thinks that the anime art style is soulless and boring and they despise how obsessed western culture is with it and how this leads to people like Toby fox not just having an interest in Japanese media but pathetically larping as a foreigner to his own culture
>>566775014 i will forever be the crusader of SCC being an acronym for ACCEPT WEAKNESS and being sound broadcasting equipment in the game with MIKE FRIEND AIRWAVES
>>566774489 fave should remember there was a prophecy in undertale where the player was pretty objectively in the role of the angel and there's really no one else it could be except chara
>>566755394 If Dess isn't the Knight she is entirely irrelevant to the game and her introduction will be forced. You may see this as a pro or con of this game's writing but it's the truth
If fave doesn't exit the computer and suck my titties they are entirely irrelevant to the game and their introduction will be forced. You may see this as a pro or con of this game's writing but it's the truth
>>566775124 Think you ought to inspire the commonfolk to look at what the west has to offer by being that change, or at least point them to something that isn't anime inspired but worthwhile.
>>566775858 difference is you barely knew who asriel was by the end of undertale and that's by design. You were simply too late, it's bittersweet. With Dess you have all these teases it would feel deflating if you couldn't understand her deeply
>>566767021 >Because I can tell it's something they're going to make a scene of in the final episode Yeah, no shit, the characters have to come to terms with the fact that they aren't real and can't escape, which they've been either avoiding or badly coping with for the entire show. It's not a twist, but it's important to the characters. In episode 2, it's not a twist that Gummigoo is a NPC because that's established immediately, yet the emotional climax of the episode is Pomni reassuring him that he matters even if he's not a real person. It's a psychological drama, not a mystery.
>>566769858 If you played on a controller then it's extremely easy. If you played on a keyboard then it's still easier than the other Shadow Crystal bosses (sans NEO if you're good at shmups), but harder than normal bosses.
>>566775509 I never said he hasn't watched any anime at all. Everyone below a certain age has seen Pokemon on TV. He just doesn't seek it out and has probably watched less than ten series total, if that, and they were probably all mainstream series, most of which he saw as a child on TV. Even something extremely popular like Utena would be too deep a cut for him.
