In my eyes, persona is trying to become too safe to protect the audience at all costs as a safe space. Trying to create subseries like Metaphor/SH2 to try to push boundaries is a copout solution to long time fans. It has it pros to tell new stories, but all it shows is the persona formula doesn't have much the studio wants to use to tell real stories anymore.

I work at Atlus West - we've had an HD Remaster of Persona Q 1&2 completely done since mid 2022 but it's been pushed back because they wanted to dub Q2 They decided to go with the Reload actors for the P3 cast and the Revival cast for the P4 cast. They then decided to redub Q1 for consistency. I think it's going to be announced sometime this year but these dubs have been so troubled because they took so long to finalize the 4R cast and now they can't announce the game until they can show off 4R and announce the new cast and that game is still in a rough shape I swear to god I was hoping it'd be announced in the Partner Showcase Thursday but that's not gonna happen If this game made for the 25th anniversary isn't announced before the 30th anniversary is over I swear to fucking god

The protagonist is the main character you play as obviously, Morgana is a pokemon who can train and capture other pokemon and allies with the player and sticks by his side, Ryuji, Ann, Yusuke, Makoto, Futaba and Haru are all friends you make along the way who help you take out the bad guys, team up with you and you can battle them. Akechi and Kasumi are rivals who join your side torwards the later parts of the game but are mainly rivals with Akechi being the main one. Igor is the professor with Justine and Caroline being his assistances who you can also battle though both are the toughest battle in the game. Kamoshida, Madarame, Kaneshiro, Futaba Okumura, Sae and Shido are antagonists in the game that you battle in order and take out with Shido being a twist villain in charge of the evil team, Madarame, Kaneshiro and Okumura being pawns of the team, Kamoshida being not associated with the team but the teams actions are why he is able to get away with what he those and Futaba and Sae being anti villains who join your side. Akechi is also apart of the team though he pretends to be on your side and then betrays you but it's also revealed he plans on betraying Shido. Yaldaboath is a legendary pokemon that is controlling Shido's team behinds the scenes while pretending to be Igor who gives the protagonist his first pokemon and Justine and Caroline's true form is Lavenza who had her memory taken away and divided into two while the real Igor was locked up. Even after the evil team and Yaldaboath is dealt with, another antagonist who has been a good guy called Maruki starts doing stuff though has good intentions and is the final battle in the story. All 9 dungeons in Persona 5 become dungeons you infiltrate to take on some of the antagonists.

Yeah I'm only using 4 personas, boosting their stats at the arcade, mutating high rank skills by reloading a save state on level up at 400% speed over and over again until I get a mutable skills (checking a wiki so see which skills are mutable)
It's technically not cheating youi could theoretically do it with no save states.
But one thing I've realized is you could get a Persona to 99 STR by June or July with the arcade and cards, which kind of breaks the game.

I feel like Star Trek is a really straightforward, easy template for Sci-Fi JRPGs if they feel like following it. Like Xenoblade Chronicles X in feel and structure is surprisingly close to something like Star Trek Deep Space 9, and I'd say Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey captures the feeling of Star Trek The Original Series really well too.
Phantasy Star is a bit scifi, but sometimes it leans more towards technology being something that they don't really understand, but ancient remnants are so commonplace they still just use what's around. If it had a lot more detail, Phantasy Star 2's setting in particular would stand out on that, because the population itself is bordering on becoming Wall-E tier useless and stupid.

I was kinda on a shitty path in my life, cause I was lost and I didn't understand what it was that people wanted out of me. I couldn't make friends, and I was generally "That Guy" in any workplace story about how someone showed up, got fired shortly after, and nobody saw any issue with it, and I didn't get what I was doing wrong. I picked up Persona 4 vanilla after finishing Catherine into Persona 3 FES. Halfway through the game, I got into a flow state where I started pondering my life as I was grinding social links and Personas in the velvet room. I kept thinking about "Why the fuck do people just love Yu Narukami so much? What is he doing that I'm not?"
Eventually what happened is I started to focus on all the social stats at one point while in that flow trance. I thought about the words here and the meaning of them. Being diligent as opposed to lazy. Being courageous and knowledgeable as opposed to cowardly and stupid. I slowly started to realize that every single social interaction I've had with a person I really liked was when that someone was reflecting those positive traits, and every person I strongly disliked was representing the opposite of these, or the negative version of these traits.
Once I finished it, I kept mentally saying these traits over and over again in my head. Anytime I was massively tired and wanted to say "fuck it" to something, I'd remember the word "Diligent" and get up and go do it. Everytime I wanted to shut out someone and ignore them for being stupid, I instead remembered "Understanding and Expression" and try to see their viewpoint and why I couldn't express mine.
Over time, this transformed me completely. It took several years, but suddenly I was finding that people were being drawn to me more often, asking me for help, or recommending me for promotions. I found it easier to talk to women in general, and I just started to get actual respect.
