What do you mean? In Wani there is no actual antagonist/villain except for Olivia's own personality issues. Mia doesn't give a shit about Inco outside of his connection to the gator, and E1 suggests she might actually like the guy. She only gives a shit about Olivia because of her antagonism towards Ben and outright admits she's the only really talented person at their school.

In SG Trish is more of a faux antagonist, since the actual villain of the story is Fang, who in turn thinks it's Naomi who's the bad guy.

This. I think it's pretty clear from the trailer and the teaser that she does not enjoy the life she's living. If anything that OD may well have been a suicide attempt.

My theory is that her father probably died when she was young and her mother was distant after that. She was forced to grow up fast, and when she moved in with Vanette and the others, her waitress job simply wasn't enough. She knows she's pretty and she's good at dancing, Vanny (or someone in her orbit) probably sold her on stripping for some quick extra cash.

Vanny probably already had a drug habit too, and saw that Ashley was stressed and didn't like what she had to do to make enough money to live. So she probably began to share as it was the only way she knew how to ease her best friend's pain. It sort of just spiraled out of control from there.

I've lived similarly in my college days, not so much with pills but with booze. All my buddies around me tried to help me cope with pain (in my case my girlfriend got glioblastoma and died) by inviting me out every weekend to drink and party. I knew it wasn't good for me, but when the other option was eyeing my pistol at night, drinking to feel numb enough that I could tread water rather than drown felt better in the short term.

But ultimately taking the pills to cope was still Ashley's choice, she largely dug her own grave here and it's up to her to pull herself out. All the player can really do is point that out and probably help her realize Vanette isn't as good of a friend as Ashley thinks she is.

Not game related but you just unearthed some old PTSD.
One time read a OMORI fanfiction where it started off amazing and a genuinely cute read, but after enough chapters the author passed it down to his female co-writer and the new author immediately made the female lead throw everything away become a stripper 'to survive' (she had a perfectly fine job) which the author said was realistic, implied that she had sex with patrons for money, and then she manipulated the male romance lead which she was in a relationship at the time btw into not asking questions or she'll break up with him.
Oh and she uses an old dead sister figure AND the male romance lead's ACTUAL big sister who he has massive trauma over's name as a stage name.

I'm still mad because of how retarded it was.

All good now. Cut out all those shitty college friends and landed a job in oil and gas. Got a new girlfriend, she helped pull me out of the rut since she had similar problems when she was in her early 20s and did the hard work to fix her life. She's even come with me to my former girlfriends grave to pay respects several times now, and understands she can't replace what I lost.

In any case there's a reason I relate to both James and Ashley as much as I do. Cannot wait to play through VA with her.
