Then you have Tsumi in which I think she did what she had to do with Rina and Teppei (and I'll die on that hill) but lost her mind later to Hinamizawa Syndrome. She did snap out, which people don't really do.

As someone whose only read through Higu last year, I'd say it's because Shion is just the more interesting Mion. All of the other girls have their own separate arcs that are quite standalone, obviously Rika and Satoko are close but nothing like Mion and Shion. It's a bit unfair to Mion because personally I think the way it's told is fascinating and I love them being extremely identical twins, but pretty much all the great bits are Shion bits, but either way I always pair them together since you kind of have to, and in that case they're probably my favourite Higu. Or Rena, Rena is close.

I'm totally fine with a lot of the deaths that happen in the story. Rina and Teppei of course are totally justifiable deaths. Oryou getting killed by Shion is fine, that bitch had it coming. Also Kimiyoshi dying is whatever, he was kinda gross and he's balding in the original so no big loss. Keiichi killing Mion and Rena in Oni is also totally okay. They were trying to write stuff on his clothes with a marker. These ditzy country girls aren't in a position to appreciate the nice expensive clothes Keiichi got in the big city, and thoughtlessly tried to ruin them, so his reaction is understandable. And then Takano trying to kill Hanyuu in Matsuri makes sense since she's a monster with literal fucking horns but unfortunately Rika stopped that with her magic witch powers, ruining things like usual.
