Remember Lovecraft in Shintoism?
>>
>>287456935
wasn't this a futurama episode?
>>
>>287456753
Cute!
>>
So what exactly is this brain thing?
>>
>>287460406
I think it's a newborn kami. The kami that aren't literal aliens were spawned by pure worship and thought, and the failed offering ritual created a giant mantra-filled pile of brain matter that was then abandoned.
>>
>>287460406
Mantra?
>>
>>287456577
Looks almost spot-on to SMT's depiction of Omoikane.
>His name means "having the wisdom and thoughtfulness of many people".
>>287460542
I think it could be baby Omoikane. It grew into that after Kozumi abandoned the timeline. Unless he's already shown up previously, I don't remember.
>>
>>287460668
oops, meant for this one
>>287457444
>>
>>287460406
I'm guessing that if you just rip mantra off humans it eventually coalesces into these kind of images. War is possibly one of the greatest way mantra happens as it is exclusive to humans and has enormous consequences.

Kozumi's Presentation was incomplete, it's supposed to be two parts
>1. Remove mantra from humans
>2. Give it back to the gods (where they would presumably get back to their old strengths and his dragon waifu would be saved)
He stopped at 1 because the gathered mantra wasn't enough (from the bellgod interfering) but there was still tons of it laying around, and I suppose the Prince is just cleaning it all up.

>TLanon after translating a chapter
>>
>>287460986
There seems to be so much importance on humanity choosing to worship the gods that I'm surprised Kozumi ever thought this false and unnatural method was going to work.
>>
New chapter is out.
>>
>>287457444
You’re reading a series where timelines get scrapped like draft files and gods run on WiFi powered by human thoughts, but the line gets drawn at brain monsters?

Shinto has eight million kami and half of them are “this rock but pissed off.” A giant coagulated thought-organ birthed from stolen mantra is honestly one of the more straightforward concepts we’ve had.

If anything it’s the most on-brand thing so far: humanity tries to min-max faith, accidentally grows a cortex with legs, and now everyone’s surprised it has opinions.
>>
>>287464331
I don't think Kozumi's plan is to be written as a failure right away, he's a sennin after all so he's bound to know stuff.
>>
>>287464381

>>

I'm not sure the others even met him once.
>>
>>287456554
So the sage is in a different timeline?
>>
>>287467819
I don't speak japanese but it seems like the manga makes a distinction between timelines splitting up and moving through time.

The Presentation created a branched timeline where the prince resides and humans in japan are no longer sapient. But Kozumi is still able to use the Sacred Treasure to go forward in time to the "Prime" timeline where japan's history plays out and he hasn't made his Presentation.

This is probably why the Prince seems fairly chipper, since that way he's free to leave his days in peace without having to face his uncle in a war he's fated to lose and die over.
>>
If I could travel between timelines I would grab the Miyo from each timeline I visited until I had collected approximately 8-10 Miyos and then I would live peacefully with my harem of Miyos.

Why would the Sennin jump straight forwards in time in a dead timeline when he openly said that he was getting out of there because it was a doomed world?

Zen is question why they ended up in an alternative timeline instead just go straight where Kozumi at. What Zen doesn't understand is that there is a main timeline (where Kozumi reside) and how can they cross timeline
>>
>>287492294
So this whole time, we're not in the main timeline?
>>
>>287492314
no
>>
>>287490947
You have to consider them as halves of the same page. When you read the printed magazine or volume you will see both pages at once and you should have the same setup when reading digitally.
>>
>>287492372
>>
>>287492379
You're right.
>>
>>287492314
Yes and no. Like the manga said, time is like a thread or more precisely, a tree. The tree has branches but all branches still come from a single main branch. Each branch is an alternative timeline that share a common point of divergence. Basically because Kozumi fucked with time at the point of divergence, the flow of time moved to an alternative timeline while he used his treasure to move to to his own future. SO now they are basically finding a way to jump from one branch to another branch and reach the branch where Kozumi reside in.

>>287491901
I think Zen might be saying that what Kozumi did by travelling 30 years into the future is the same thing that they're about to do by travelling sideways into a different timelines. So if Kozumi managed to do it it should be possible.

>>287491941

>>287491941
>>287491955
>>287491966
I can understand desiring a much simpler life instead of living in the rat race that is society. But the world without mantra is just a stagnant hell because not only have humans been returned to their primal form, but they have had the capacity to change stripped from them as well. It's easy to say "Maybe it's not so bad" when you're the only person with thoughts around but it also seems lonely as hell to essentially be the last thinking man in Japan.
>>
>>287491966
The author clearly don't know enough about nature if he thinks nature isn't extremely exploitative and they don't even need wealth or mainly survival, just pure instinct to exploit others
>>
>>287493590

>>287491966

>>
>>287493590
I mean it is from the POV of the guy. The manga doesn't say it is correct, it just that the prince kid really didn't like his fate and the life he was forced to live. At least here, he could be free despite being extremely lonely.

We were. History and the main timeline or the only timeline there was, formed by the flow of mantra of man, remains the same because Koizumi failed. The ruined timeline is a byproduct of the failed ritual; the actual effect of which and the result Koizumi looks for we don't yet know the mechanism of, though I'm fairly sure it's an overwriting effect; tethering off from the original history from the remnant mantra of Ryuuboushi and Juu-tan. The part of mantra that got cut through just continues on from there as it was originally so fox face still won the war and life carries on as it was recorded.

>>287492294
Zen just cut out the complicated middle part and say what they're gonna be doing is travelling 30 years into the future regardless, which hasn't changed historically yet

I didn't know they were that involved in korea that early. And not invading, but helping a korean ally. Fascinating

We haven't been since the first few chapters when En and the Sennin started fucking around with the Kami to save Koto instead of just letting the world develop.
That was the divergence that broke this world off from the main timeline.

I don't get why the mangaka is making this all sound so complicated when it was obvious from the start that Shounin was jumping to a different world and leaving this one to rot.
Like it was clear from the start that just traveling 30 years into the future in this world wouldn't lead to anything useful because he said himself that it was a dead time line.

Like yeah, we gotta jump worlds instead of just moving up and down one time line, because branching time lines were established way long ago in this series.
Miyo's multiple fates, as an example.

You can read the story of En no Ozuno and Hitokotonishi-sama if you want to know how the "main" timeline ends

Really until the Heian period, Japan was conceptually just a very different place to what we now think of it.
Way more linked to the continent.

This. There is a prime timeline where En grew up in service of Koto-sama but without his older self as a mentor, presumably the attack on herself and her followers still happened and one way or the other he became a sennin but found that he couldn't save her in his time. What I want to know is why he spends time training his younger self. This doesn't seem to be beneficial to him in any way, as he doesn't need anyone's help in the Presentation (except the Prince's uncle and even then this was mostly to try to peek in the future to see if it would work). Is he maybe trying to set up an infinite loop where he saves his own Koto-sama by going back to the past, training his young self to become him, fulfilling the Presentation to save Koto-sama in the future while his young self repeat the cycle for his own dragonfu? That doesn't seem right.

Whatever the case I hope we're soon done with the multiple timelines and time travel, it's just not a very interesting direction to take the story in long-term, so if it gets sorted out in volume 9 and everyone goes back to a single unit of space-time that'd be swell.

Korea, Taiwan, China are Japan's top 5 trading partners. They're still deeply linked.

Hobbes IS 100% correct.

>>287502298
Humans have only gotten more solitary as technology and societal organization has gotten more complicated.
Humans are at their most communal when they're also at their most primitive.

?
Hobbes was talking about the importance of monopolization of violence to socioeconomic development.

Hobbes believe that the closer that humanity was to primitive and tribal times, the more brutish it was. And brutishness to him was associated with anti-social impulses.
The monopolization of power was one part of his belief that greater societal complexity was better for the human spirit.

There's only been one timeline until the ritual, and had it succeeded, it probably would've overwritten the future to still be one timeline.

>But the other Zen and En
Not real
>But Goki
The same Miyo in the future

History/the timeline is dictated by mantra. Koizumi's been fucking around in the past so some things may seem off compared to the recorded history of the future in the moment, but ultimately the greater flow of mantra remains unchanged.

I think you're confusing asocial behavior with antisocial behavior. You may be more asocial when you live in solitude surrounded by technology but you're also less likely to wage war on neighboring clans and exterminate cultures that are different from yours. That's the kind of antisocial behavior that primitive peoples are more likely to behave in.
