I'm reading a chapter a day on kmanga right now. Still super early but it's pretty fun. Reminds me of early One Piece and Gash Bell. And I like the designs of the characters and artwork.
>>
I never got into it since the title and dub ED made me cringe on contact, and the designs didn't appeal to me. FT later became my favorite manga for several years though, so now I have the Rave manga backlogged in case of a long plane flight.

I have full volume of it's physical release. It was one of the first shonen i've ever read. It's pretty basic shonen stuff but i enjoyed it very much
>>
I'd wish for an anime reboot, but people probably wouldn't watch it.

This was literally the first manga I ever read. I still think Ten Commandments is the coolest sword ever.
>>
I remember thinking Resha was best girl

Reading the manga when I was 9 and getting to the part where the evil demon guy kisses the MC's gf planted a seed in my head that eventually led to my NTR fetish

It just won't feel the same without Reel Big Fish.

I want her to be my valentine.

Not everyday you hear bigger name VAs like Tom Kenny do anime.

Anywho, always good seeing underrated gems getting some recognition. Let's just hope a certain Fairy fag doesn't find and crash this thread.

The poison element fight freaked me out back then.

I liked it more than fairy tail. Kinda felt like a proto series. I always remember the dude with amulet sitting on the tree(?) after the time skip nice page.

I remember some guy on YT making a video series about dissecting FT where the last part was about Rave Master and how that's supposedly be the better series according to many, but according to him it's just also does Mashima bullshit all the time after a while. Don't remember the guy or can't find the videos, wonder if they are even still uploaded and available.

It peak with the Doryu arc.

Someone lent me vol 1 back in middle school and I enjoyed it, next thing I read was like vol 16 and needless to say I didn't understand shit

I knew there was no way Haru was going to die, but even 20 years later, I still can’t help but wonder, who was he referring to here? Who was meant to become the third Rave Master?
>>
>>287494125
>>287494187
Oh yeah, I remember that. Guy must at the top of Fairy fag's shitlist, if not close.
>>
>>287494290
I heard a rumor that one of the official Japan-exclusive data books revealed it was Elie.
>>
Loved the anime as a kid but never got too far in the manga. I jumped back in recently and I love the Final Fantasy VIII aesthetic, but the entire first third of the manga is filled with "fights" that are ended with Haru coming up with a new attack and one-shotting the enemy.
>>

Ok, I can't be the only one to notice any of the King Arthur parallels, right?
>humble smalltown boy gets magic sword from old guy to restore justice to a world gone mad
>also learns of his father's heated grudge with a powerful warlord
>builds a found family of fellow knights in search of a holy object
>finds love, but gets NTR'd
>gives his life in the final conflict with his sworn enemy, later returns as foretold
>>
I like Lucia as villain. He actually loses to haru during the sacrifar fight and seethes to get better
>>
>>287489506
Rave Master is Mashima's magnum opus

The anime has great Opening song at least. I never watched past couple first episode. The manga is really good though
>>287494933
I also like the idea that Haru couldn't unlock the last commandment because Eisenmeteor is Shiba's sword. So Haru needs a final sword of his own

More like Rape Master

I do have a certain taste for Mashima villains. EZ had a bunch of good ones (Drakken, Shura, Ziggy), it's just a shame the ultimate mastermind was so undercooked. At least he did better with the real final boss.
>>
>>287495637
I really dig Ziggy's look. He's how I imagined Zeref back when Mashima was hyping him up as a proper Sauron analog.
>>
>>287495717
Did you also imagine him as Natsu from the future or what? Imagine how that would effect his friendship with Erza.

I gained a new appreciation for Rave Master after learning that Elie shares a voice actor with Nodame.

Finally up again and i will say i enjoyed the first 4 volumes. Very fun read even if a bit tropey. The random bullshit arcs were small but to well to extend out travel time.

>rave master
never stopped hating this english title

it's The Groove Adventure Rave

I read Rave Master in 2018 after watching the anime in like 03 or 04. It was the worst manga I ever forced myself to finish. The plot was just asspull after asspull with a bunch of things happening that the author thought would be cool but were rarely fleshed out enough to be satisfying. The pacing was also really bad. I will say though, Mashima does a great job making you care about the characters. I feel like every member of the main cast got plenty of moments to shine and whenever someone had to job to a new villain, it was done in a way that made them look good. People on this site constantly say Rave Master is better than Fairy Tale but it's really only because of their nostalgia for the series. Any flaws Fairy Tale seems to have were also present in Rave Master.

God that part was bad. Is that also the part where in the middle of the fight, the story jumps to a volume long arc about Musica and that silver bending chick?
>>
>>287494933
That was one of the highlights for me too, especially because Haru tells Lucia "King would SCHOOL you!". It's refreshing to see a shounen series treat previous arc villains as powerful threats instead of letting powercreep make them look like weaklings

Plus Haru and Elie's VAs had cameos in Fairy Tail as Happy's parents.
>>
>>287498151
Both are wrong.

It's just Rave.

One word.

Like Madonna.

Mashima has done that kind of thing more than I realized.

For instance, Fairy Tail did it with Hades. The manga makes it clear that he mainly lost because he was so old that he needed an external power source to give himself unlimited magic. When Franmalth (the cyclops from Tartaros) used Hades' soul, it gave him Hades' magic in its prime, which even Natsu wasn't a match for with his Second Origin unlocked; he only won because he and Lucy took advantage of the shortcomings in Franmalth's own power.

Edens Zero is a different story since everyone unlocked their future power levels after U0's NG+ reset, but that didn't happen right away. They still had to struggle against old enemies like the Element 4 and Emperor Nero while they rushed in at their chapter 1 levels first, and since it was inevitable they would start no-diffing all the old enemies again anyway, it was cool that Nero was the one to help them do it so they could stop the big threats.

Dead Rock also did something similar with the strongest student at the demon school, a delinquent named Cougar. He basically handed Yakuto the win out of respect, and it was one of the teachers who killed him in the end, but for a while after that, you'd see people bring up how tough he was now and then.

Its unfortunate how its tied to talk no jutsu as that is partly one of the ways to not have powerscaling go crazy. Even if it is inevitable.
Also off topic, but how was the ending to EZ? i really liked the start but i kinda fell off before then went back in time to U0.

Well, the story did take a nosedive with how rushed everything was, especially with most of the villains getting no-diffed.

Plus not only did they go back in time, it was also the "golden ending" timeline like what Chainsaw Man ended with, where (almost) nothing bad ever happened and every named character is alive and well. But if you ask me, it's not as bad as any of the fakeouts FT had, since the story was kind of setting up for that, and the only ones who ever remember the old world are the living EZ crew, anyone else who was on the ship with them, and Rebecca's mom.

But the ending itself is decent. Good enough that it bumped it back up a notch, especially the reveals about the origins and true nature of Mother, Shiki, the Four Shining Stars, and the Chronophage. It helps that Mashima had those answers set in stone from the beginning.

I'm still not happy with the parts where it dropped the ball, but I'm glad I stuck around to the end.
