I'm not reading the manga or watching the anime.
There is no way having a rental girlfriend can really render this much story.
I wonder if the story goes back-and-forth on the same scenarios but different girl with 0 character development???

Easy. A chapter has 19 pages. Baity progress consists of like 1 or 2 pages. The rest is filler.

It’s mostly just padding focusing on one specific girl. And the reader doesn’t actually know what she thinks because Reiji thinks this is masterful and compelling storytelling. Reiji should just stick to making comedy instead of romance because as is this has all been one long giant joke.

I can’t speak for that other series but I will say one thing. Readers can’t actually trust what Mizuhara will say, think, or do. She did ghost the protag once after all and she has a history of lying. Even if what she’s saying now turns out to actually be the truth it’s going to be a long time before anybody really believes her. Her manipulative side will not go away just because of a single kiss or heartbeat. If anything, after what she’s said and done so far, it makes the readers distrust her even more and it’s a big tragedy the protag himself and nearly everyone who supports Mizuhara and him in the story refuses to see that.
This is one of the main reasons why this isn’t a good romance story. But it’s a good cautionary tell on when to start putting your faith in people and when it’s time to actually give up.
