I can discuss Madoka. I recently watched Rebellion, and my feelings are mixed. The music, the animation, the plot - I enjoyed all of these, but the story leaves me hollow so to speak. The OG series (and the prior 2 movies) that ended with Madoka's sacrifice gave off a wonderful bittersweet feeling, a satisfying conclusion of the themes of deconstruction and reconstruction of Magical Girl genre. The Rebellion however decided to deliberately go against it - with Homura becoming the opposite of Madoka and all - and I am personally not very fond of the direction the movie chose to go in.

Homura's hardly the opposite of Madoka, that implies that she'd be putting more despair into the universe and corrupting magical girls. Although, that could be a decent theme for the next movie, with Homura trying to convince Mami, Nagisa and Kyoko to work with her to keep her version of reality intact.
