It's easier to answer those questions in reverse order.

Ranmaru was Nobunaga's closest companion and attendant. He was a much younger man, so there was speculation the relationship was a lot more intimate than just master and servant. Ranmaru was the only one who stayed at Nobunaga's side after he was betrayed, and is believed to have committed suicide alongside him, as the temple burned down around them. His full name is Mori Ranmaru, which should illuminate some things.

Mori Yoshinaru. You might note that his family name is the same as Ranmaru's, that would be because the "old man Mori" is his father, and one of Nobunaga's most trusted, and powerful vassals. Nobunaga became indebted to Mori Yoshinari, so he promised to look after his sons.

So what you can conclude is that Berserker is somehow also related to the Mori clan, most likely is one of Mori Yoshinari's sons.

He's Mori Nagayoshi, which is probably not a name you'd be familiar with if you're not a sengoku jidai nerd, but he was one of Nobunaga's top guys. A real door-kicker, over-the-wall-first type samurai that Nobbu could put at the head of an army and reliably see it destroy whatever he pointed it at.

If they had just created male Ranmaru in FGO, it would not have been popular, after all their role is already taken inarguably by Nobukatsu, you would have have two characters sucking Nobu's dick at all times, it would have been lame

Sure Servant universe is also lame, but it serves a particular point in this case. Kennichi broke down what Ranmaru's role was for Nobu, and the way to get people to care about Ranmaru, was to give players "their" Ranmaru. People would only care about a third tier historical character like Ranmaru if they saw Ranmaru from the perspective of Nobunaga, this is Ranmaru for you
The original Ranmaru still exists but they gave you your own Ranmaru, in order to convey Ranmaru's good points from a personal perspective. Why this character is good can only be shown if you are his/her lord. Now you as the player are the one in a homosexual relationship with Ranmaru(female)

He's probably the single writer in there that understands this the best. When it comes to the Shinsengumi for example, I don't think he ever really tries to whitewash what they did despite the fact that his bread and butter is essentially a gag manga.

So they tried making him unapologetically evil, but instead everyone loves him for it. He just wants to get rich, have a bunch of slaves, create an empire of slaves, and get even richer.

Probably the single most well known factoid about Redline is that we already know what happens since the entire story was already told in Koha Ace. Its basically a One Punch Man situation where the web comic draws a simple yet interesting enough premise for a grail war, and an actual manga artist decides to turn their simple idea into an actual story that people take seriously because its drawn all super serious. In the original version all the masters were just Tsukihime and Fate characters, Karen was originally Lancer's master. Manga author was given full freedom to make his own OC masters to take their place in the serious version. Its not hard to see why they made his master into a chinese girl in this version, China would probably be the only place a heroic spirit like that would have infamy, although summoning a heroic spirit that only died like ten years before the story is really a big gamble in a fight between legendary spirits.

Now that I think about it probably most characters in this war died within the last 100 years before the war took place. Almost all of them are extremely modern.
