I don’t know why but I’m such a sadist when it comes to Fern. Not only Frieren is refusing to move on, she is repeating the same mistake of deliberately not thinking about her companions and their differences with her, by dragging the kids on what is a sightseening stroll to her, but a quest that would consume 20 best years of their lives to them.

And it gets worse than that. In the Goddess Monument Frieren already got her chance to confess to Himmel, to give his cock a good ride, and get over it, once and for all. That woulf be the least significant of timeline-breaking things she did in that arc. But nah. That would give her the closure, and the closure would force her to search for a new meaning in life, and that's too hard. Now retracing her memories with the heroes party makes her see how valuable making memories with people is right now.

At the land of the dead we're definitely getting Frieren coming to face Himmel with full force of appreciation everything she's learned from their journey, stories of how she's been applying that to the new one. And if Himmel can speak from the other side, he'll tell her to keep on living for the future.
