Even with all the garbage chapters we had so far this has to be the most WTF one. Like the opponent just stands there, there's tons of exposition and then he just gets oneshot by a tool with a ability to oneshot, which is the exact same as the super convoluted combo of the other 3 tools combined. Like this tool alone should make Kumo the most powerful village. And Kishi adds all this retarded convoluted shit with teleporting objects suddenly being a thing and inoshikacho fighting for some reason, but the tool itself it just the most boring one-note oneshot with no elaboration.

Sooo... I started Naruto around two years ago, mostly following the manga and occasionally changing to the anime or Rebuild of Naruto when a cool fight or moment seemed to go to happen (the end of the Zabuza arc, some fights in the Chunin exams, Naruto vs Sasuke, etc.)

But around the start of the Ninja War it started to drag, even with Rebuild of Naruto everything was kind of boring. So yeah, I stopped at around 527, I'll be continuing alongside the daily now. Hopefully reading only one chapter doesn't burn me out as much as it did before.

Also, any specially good episodes of the anime to watch before reading the chapter it is adapting?

She was a female character in a Kishimoto manga, she never stood a chance. Naruto has to have the worst handling of female characters of any major shounen jump property, even the various damsels of Hokuto No Ken are somehow treated with more dignity than Naruto's supposedly strong female ninja. idk. i'd entertain the idea of any good naruto fanfiction. the only ones i liked that i read were the one where temari and kankuro introduce gaara to television and one where they try to get used to gaara after he apologizes (there might've been 2 covering this idea).
i'm mainly curious if anyone has ever actually read good naruto fanfiction, and if so, what was it? can bigger ideas even be well written in naruto fanfiction? can any fanfic writers pull off big rewrites or a long story format? as much as i hate part 2, kishimoto is still a better writer than most fanfic writers.

I had dabbled with writing some fanfiction last year, wrote about 200k words over a three month period, though a lot of that ended up being discarded since I'd constantly rewrite stuff (I like to hit the ground running and write down any interesting concept/scene that comes to mind, then try to connect them all in a cohesive way). My main issue with writing fanfiction is the need to stay faithful to the original authors vision for each character, especially since most characters in Naruto are defined by spamming a catchphrase (mendokusai). Because of this I like to do fics with major changes to the setting, to then be able to justify deviation from a characters established self.
One fic effectively discarded half the established setting, and would take too much time to explain, essentially just kept the characters and general layout of the setting. Got more than 100k words in it
Another fic was based on the illusory world of the road to ninja movie, but playing on the theme of major personality traits being reversed, Minato and Kushina would end up being cowards (or at least branded so for defying orders) that would then be executed. Menma would grow to hate his parents, and strive to become the strongest so as to wash away the shame, only to end up also defying orders for the sake of love (kinda wishy-washy). This one ended up having 80k words.
In the end I never published either though, partly because i left them unfinished, partly because the various fanfiction sites are filled with complete faggots and i dont want to deal with them. I will say that coming up with character interactions/dialogue/fights/comedic scenes etc was very fun, but it also reminded me that it would be much better if i could just draw manga. Unfortunately im a /beg/

There was a fic I found last year called Freshly Cut Grass, Naruto is a bit of a shit (imagine part 1 Naruto's abrasiveness combined with early Gaara's unhinged nature), gets forced by the village into a political marriage with Temari as a way to ensure Suna would be loyal to Konoha, and also as a way to put Naruto on a leash. Overall I really liked how the relationship between Naruto and Temari developed, unfortunately its been on hiatus since December of 2024, reached up to the timeskip. i kinda do that too. i have a scratch pad where i write down things i think would be interesting then branch out from there. some things are based on what i think would have been interesting to see in shows/movies/games/books/comics i watched/read/played but said media just never touched on the ideas in the ways i would've liked. so it's like i have some fanfiction ideas but i turn them into my own thing and make it more original instead of just straight up copying or writing fanfiction. i'd rather write my own shit over fanfiction too.

A lot of fanfics focus on things that don't make a shonen a shonen.

If it was up to me, I'd focus on clan politics and how a village balances a variety of clans and non clan entities. Clan politics are one of the most overlooked things in this series.

Aside from that I'd also have the jinchuriki treated like actual WMDs. So most of the 9 jinchuriki would be hidden kind of like how Isayama had the Warhammer titan hidden. If not hidden for some villages then elevated to a ceremonial status.

JJK kinda did the clan thing well but it was hindered down due to being in the modern era. Also there were only like two clans that mattered.

I'd also repair the atrocious timeline in Naruto

1st Shinobi world war happens because everyone seethes at the leaf supremacy that Hashirama started by being strong enough to capture all the beasts and be known as the god of Shinobi. Once he dies, the other villages get uppity

There's a tag dedicated to this called "fix-it" and they are typically very shit, though popular. Think stuff like Minato magically coming back to life, then dunking on Hiruzen for being stupid, beating up the Akatsuki overnight, talk no jutsuing Pain and Obito etc etc. Other's I've seen have Kakashi, Sasuke, Sakura, Naruto, any random background character, from post series end get put back into their infant body, or into their start of part one body and then use their knowledge to try and "fix it". In general i just find these stories to be completely pointless, they arent exploring the setting or characters any further, they arent doing anything new or interesting; They are just removing whatever little stakes the original story actually had.

It's like the Sharingan. Copying tech? You use your eyes to see it, makes sense. Tsukuyomi and other genjutsu? You look the target in the eyes. Amaterasu? You look at what you set on fire. Fair enough.
Itachi's genjutsu vs. Orochimaru? Through his finger. That has nothing to do with the eye. Susano'o? It's a chakra mech, fuck off.
So while HAVING the powers of the eyes is necessary, there no reason to assume that you need any of their sensible abilities for it.

there's a small broken piano or piano adjacent instrument in gaara's childhood room so he has at least some familiarity with it and can possibly play the piano. it's also just a generic instrument that rich families force their kids to play. strict household type thing. rasa had high expectations for gaara so it fits.

I do think that stories that stem from what ifs can be interesting, though I haven't read any for Sasuke dying to Haku. A few weeks ago I was perusing AO3 and stumbled on one which had Naruto suddenly becoming unable to even form a shadow clone before the chunnin exams, thus being kept out of them which led to Sasuke dieing. Then on the second chapter Naruto ends up turning into some weird tranny body snatcher that is described as looking like Tayuya, throws in random curse words every sentence (so adult!!!), goes drinking at some crummy bar just to get wasted ("gimme the cheap stuff, i just wanna get drunk" was said every time the fag would go to the bar, how captivating) and there would be constant rants about how stupid Naruto was and how this weird tranny freak was REAL (the author lacking any form of self awareness). After that i skimmed through the rest of the chapters, tranny!Naruto ended up becoming the Jonin sensei for Konohamaru and Hanabi, they went on some missions, endless trips back to that shitty bar.
