Really nice animation, I hope you can succeed this time around. You've definitely got the raw ability so it's just a question of if you can market yourself well enough. If I could give some unsolicited advice, don't be shy about shilling yourself. I've known talented people who have kneecapped their own potential because they feel that doing any sort of self-promotion or advertising somehow cheapens the art. Me personally I think it'd be criminal if this kind of shortstack art didn't get put in front of every goblin girl and imp Midna fan in the world.

As for fan art and trends, I think you need to find a good balance between doing stuff that appeals to everyone (Popular characters, viral art trends, etc) and stuff that appeals to a core audience. The real gold is in any kind of big new character or trend that fits what you want to do anyway. That twitter strip game trend a while back was great because it both egged on engagement and was adaptable to basically anyone's art.

I might be able to provide some insight here, as a fairly average American guy with a bachelors and a salaried job who just dipped his toes into commissioning artists. This is also a good excuse to post some of the work I had done. Without giving too much personal info away, I make about $80k before taxes every year. It sounds like a lot, but my job means I need to live in a reasonably high cost of living area, so my disposable income isn't as high as I'd like. I rent, and drive a used car that is paid off, so after my various bills, gas, 401k/IRA investments for retirement, and incidental expenses I have about a thousand dollars left over for disposable income. Personally, I save a lot of that too because despite everything I do have dreams of owning my own home. Also, I'm single NOW, but when I had a girlfriend to wine and dine this amount was noticeably lower. It's also a little lower now than it was a few months ago because of the Iran war and the impact on gas prices, so just keep in mind this is all a rough estimate and is subject to a reasonable amount of change.

Anyway, when it comes to commissions I can't say I'm very motivated to spend a ton of money on them. I have a lot of other hobbies, like video games, anime figures, painting, movies, etc etc. Fundamentally, there's a lot of naked girls online that I can look at for free. I don't have to go to someone and describe my very personal desires, pay them, then wait a while. That said, the niche nature of this fetish means that sometimes a custom order is the only way to get what I want. Which in this case was the heroine of an obscure Finnish eroge that has weirdly captivated me. I'll provide some actionable advice in the followup posts, I just want to give some background info. Side note, I wonder if Cranihum still lurks these threads. That guy has an actually successful shortstack drawing business, he'd have some great advice.

I decided to commission something because there were things I wanted to see that I could envision in my head but didn't exist in real life. This is essentially the same issue I run into when it comes to anime figures, which lead me to my other hobby, 3D printing and painting anime figures. I can't speak for everyone but this is what motivated me to start researching artists and eventually hire a few. I wanted more Namu, so I paid for it. And in the process I learned a few things about commissioning as a whole.

The first thing I learned? Most artists fucking suck at getting paid. This is by far the biggest thing any individual artist could do to improve their standing as an artist for hire. I reached out to people who had open commissions over advertised channels of contact and some of them took weeks to respond. Some would respond initially but would take a while to respond to additional messages. The one guy I was most happy with was prompt, polite, completed the work quickly, and thanked me. He was an anomaly. You should strive to be the anomaly. I get that people aren't online 24/7 and there are naturally other things in life, but I'm talking people wouldn't respond for days or weeks despite money being offered.

If you offer commissions, just treat it like a business. Set reasonable expectations if you can, you don't have to work yourself to the bone just to finish fast, but at least keep in touch. You can work out individual rates for animation work, images, etc but if nothing else be professional. You'll stand out.

The other advice I'd give is to put stuff on your commission page that really makes your own skills stand out. You're a really talented animator, so I'd definitely lead with that. But also, if you're good at drawing from a lot of different angles or you can do all sorts of different designs, put that out there too. Remember, I wanted to get something in my head onto a computer screen, so I looked for artists that seemed reasonably versatile. It seemed like a lot of artists just put whatever work they personally liked on their portfolio pages without really curating a set of images that fully explores what they're capable of. Some artists have a few favorite poses or characters, and while that's fine when it comes to commissions you're not drawing for yourself, you're drawing for someone else.

I'll shut up after this but as a final note, if for whatever reason you can't finish a job in a reasonable amount of time, please just offer a refund. Your clients aren't stupid and my worst experience by far was a guy who took payment up front and then basically didn't do anything unless I was specifically bothering him. And every time I got an update it was obvious that it was something he threw together quickly just to shut me up. All the while he was still offering commissions. It's been over 6 months and I've basically written this one off. Obviously don't scam people, but more than that don't take more work than you think you can handle.

The girl with the black skin isn't my OC, it's the main character Namu from an eroge called Paccsu. On paper it sounds like the worst thing ever, it's a western RPGmaker game. But the game is surprisingly well-made, with actually engaging turn-based RPG mechanics, well designed dungeons, and animated CGs. I'd put it up there with stuff like the SEQUEL series in terms of eroge quality, though I think SEQUEL has much better storytelling. It even has a really smart solution for the whole "You have to get defeated to see new scenes" problem. Lots of anal and tentacles.

As for taking commissions anonymously, assuming you're fine with people knowing a general pseudonym you can bill them via PayPal invoices or similar. I don't remember the exact details but on paypal you can set it up so that you send a bill to the paypal account of whoever commissioned you and that invoice can skip including the name associated with your account. They just pay the invoice and you keep your privacy. I've done it for figures that I've painted on behalf of other people.

There's a reason why 4chanx has integrated single-click image search per post. If you see something that looks good, you'd want to find the creator in case they make more in the same line.

It's also why I've seen at least one mods comment on tag spamming where every single detail instead of the most broad strokes are tagged. Yes, you've tagged "black hair" there's no need to tag "hair" as well. Who's searching for that?
Filter by both most common and least common tags to see which can honestly fit what you've created, the former to cast your net as wide as you can, the latter to hook the niche interests people are starved for.

this is not a critique of your ability, but imo it's easy to blend in to all the other people animating out there if you're "just" doing loops.
if you're trying to stand out, consider doing things like small 4-panel lewd comics, with /maybe/ some small bits of animation if you really want to tryhard it. as an example, see @snazzle_snap on twitter.
that way, you could get practice in setting up your own YCHs, and you wouldn't be pigeonholed into only doing $200 animations.

my other suggestion is to not just do loops. there are hundreds of thousands of those loops out there - let the characters you're animating cum. this is a big thing that immediately sets you apart from others that people will notice and appreciate. it doesn't even need to be anything fancy, just pause the animation frames when the thrust is deepest, and add some cum dribbles.
do note, this is more of an end-goal, i'd still recommend doing the comic panels and YCHs first, and also try to chase trends.
that gameoververse cat (kit bodega, i think) is still somewhat popular if you want to get in on that.

I think the appeal of comics is that they're somewhat more labor efficient. You get to show a progression of some kind of scenario, be it a singular sex act or even an entire romp, and it can be done in as little as two frames.

That said, since the thread is giving social media advice again I gotta pitch in. I saw your Vex post and instantly got annoyed cuz it didn't mention Vex or League of Legends anywhere. So the Twitter algorithm has no one to put it in front of besides existing followers, and anyone who was just searching for Vex art wouldn't find it via a keyword search. Also don't be afraid to tease your upcoming stuff, like posting zoomed in sketches a day or two before the finished product. It helps keep activity consistent and "primes the pump" for the finished product.

Sorry, I'm still new at this. I did that with the Pomni animation and so far it reached 700+ likes so I learned my lesson haha. That is a 365% improvement from the last animation so at least I'm growing.

Dude half the Japanese artists I follow have media tabs that are 60% fast food and gacha roll results, and they still have 100k followers. For english speakers it's dumb reaction gifs. If you have a WIP every now and again just to fill some dead air that'll be the least of your issues.

I've been making sketch concepts of some goblin girls for a game I want to make. They're all going to be inspired by Final Fantasy Tactics designs and classes, but I'm not too experienced making lewd designs or goblins for that matter. I think you've pretty much nailed the fuckable but not slutty ratio. If you're looking for inspiration for a race of shortstacks, maybe check out the Granblue Fantasy draph females. It may go too far in one direction, but you never know.
Also, for character classes, may I suggest a dragoon? Tiny shorty gobbo girl with a comically oversized spear, doing big jumps and falling down with the spear, basically traveling with it as she throws it. I think its cute.
