Anybody know what it takes to make a successful PMV? I've been trying for years to make one that people like, but I only ever manage to get like 1K views on them while other PMV creators get like 10K or 30K views on theirs.

I have seen many twerk compilations on youtube and they infact use rap music and make the videos sync to beat, add screen shake. I used to like rap music when I was 8 but I grew out of it by age 11.
I transitioned to finding stuff like Korn and Limp Bizkit and that rebellious stuff.
But then in 2001 I found trance music... and I never looked back.

Find an upbeat song that's best played loud. I never said I used trance in my pmv. I said drum and bass. And even then, only certain very rare drum and bass tracks. I'm not the one who came up with the idea to use drum and bass in pmvs, I got the idea from other creators back in the late 2010s who used drum and bass in their pmvs. And they got like 100K views on their videos, back then on pornhub.
I learned years ago that only a very limited amount of music, from all genres, can actually be used in porn.

Well, not much. I'm not gonna pretend I'm a music producer, cause I'm not.
But I do know a few rules about DJing, such as beatmatching.
I know that songs are in a 4 by 4 beat structure.
I know that songs have a structure to them, and that they usually go in phrases
Like those phrases can be 8 bars long, 16 bars long, 32 bars long
I know that songs have different speeds, beats per minute,
and that if you slow or speed one up you're changing the pitch or key of the song
I know about the camelot wheel and that it's generally a good idea to match two songs
in a transition making sure they match harmonically

See my videos there, I arranged the clips according to the structure of the music. I planned the best moments
to pay off at certain times, during the climaxes of the songs. I even put special moments during the sound markers
that music producers use to mark the end and the beginning of a phrase.

this particular video here, I rearranged and extended certain sections of a couple songs in order to extend the individual
videos I was using. I even used the vocals of one track in another track. And I made sure everything was in time and in phrase.

lol well alright, I was pretty goofy there. I always try to match the tone and mood of the music. But what do you think of my jump cuts? I personally think I'm too synchronous with the music, and I'm matching cuts that have no emotional value to the user with the music. And I don't know if you've noticed, that's my weakness, is that I'm too connected to the music. Music has a structure and a formula, and I dunno if you've noticed, my the structure of my cuts are grouped into that formula. And I just feel like it becomes too formulaic for the person watching. Like it's grabbing the watcher's attention away from the experience and brining their attention to the music. It's offputting, and I've never figured out how to escape it and still make it feel a part of the music at the same time.
Also, there's the issue of the scenes themselves. Like, sure Ashley Alban was once popular, but she ain't anymore and nobody cares. When I originally posted that, back in 2018, it got 40K views on pornhub. But, I just, don't know exactly which scenes people find viral. Cause I know that most of this is picking the right scenes, the right girl, doing the right thing on camera. I'm terrible at that.

And this was my attempt at bringing what I like into a PMV, the dancing. Using those JAV dance videos. But even this, I am not proud of, because I didn't have the time, in real life, to make this into a good video like I wanted, and the rules of the games restrict you to six minutes. So this was a shit video from the start and I agree.

Well, I've noticed that even the popular pmvs have some element of dancing girls in there, but I guess, they sprinkle that in just a little bit here and there. The meat of their videos is hardcore stuff.
BUT..., in my defense, there is an audience that jerks off to girls exclusively just dancing. But yeah, it's a niche thing and I don't think that group of people are in the pmv circle. The overlap is small, I guess.

Lots of people make those so Idk maybe it's not that hard to do? I think you have to find videos/images of stuff like smoke and bubbles and add them on top and add filters to make it colorful. She's interpolating stuff from different sources like movies and shows I think, you could do that too. I think you could literally google fireworks or sparkles gif and then add it as a filter on top of your twerking vids and you can do it to the beat. And then there's some kind of symmetry filter. Oh and add chromatic aberration too. Maybe these are all presets in sony vegas? I think this is all within your skillset. Personally I think your vids are better than hers but she won because it was colorful. I guess they do judge based on creativity

The only PMVs that were ever good were, if you exclude the earlier CH stuff since that is a little different, are the early noodledude videos. So you could reference them I guess. I'm not sure what he's using to make them but my overarching suggestions would be along the lines of

It's alright man. I gotta thank you for your support. As I've learned over the years, the pmvs that these people like, use the sexiest women on the planet, the most sexual porn scenes, the most trendy sexual themes (like "gooning" and "blacked"), the most high quality resolution video possible, the trendiest music, and lots and lots and I mean... lots... of photo editing and graphic design work. These people are not editors. They are visual effects artists. And that's what they fap to. If you look at those 25 videos, it really makes you feel like a major porn studio has released them and not some bloke in his apartment with a laptop.
My video had none of that. It didn't have naked people. It didn't have sex. I used low quality video. And I didn't even get to do anything with the theme (the gaming theme). I just didn't have the time nor the access to any of these things. Lol, I totally understand how my video felt like I just took a bunch of videos and slapped some music on them.
But hey, I am at least proud of myself, cause last year and the year before that, my videos either got rejected or I didn't have time to finish them by the deadline. This year I had just enough time to finish and submit. So, I'm proud of that. Fingers crossed for the MTV award though, we'll find out if I get that on Jun 12th.

The first guy was talking about OP's pmv games video, which was exclusively just twerking. There's only one "theme" there. Which is ass shaking. Ever since video sharing platforms became a thing, I always found it interesting that someone, anyone, could post a video and people would watch it.
I made a music video out of one of my favorite video games, about 15 years ago, and put it on youtube, but it was deleted for copyright a few years after.
Interestingly, a video I made on youtube, 15 years ago, about a different related game that I like, somehow got over 130K views. It was just me recording the menu screens and music cause I loved it so much. I only expected a couple hundred views, but not 130K views. There's just something so satisfying knowing all those people watched your video even though you were just fucking around for no good productive reason.
Back in 2017, while I was browsing around pornhub, I came across a bunch of videos they called "PMVs" and one of them was a compilation series of 4 videos using drum and bass, some dude just anonymously made and posted online. I fapped to those videos for months, and I was like, my god, I want to make videos like this too. That dude disappeared off the face of the internet and I have no idea if he made pmvs after those 4 videos, but I made it my goal that when I get the time, I would make a series of videos just like he did.
I still haven't gotten to make my own set of pmvs like that, but I'm hoping to get the chance to do that sometime this year or next year.

As you can see, the girls here are dancing in a professional studio. The music is inside the studio being recorded by the camera. And the focus is on the one girl, for a very long time, or the entire video, even.

Generally, PMVs are basically a series of fast cuts involving multiple different videos as their source, basically compilations. But it doesn't have to be, that's just what's generally popular, because, the advantage of a compilation is that you get to see the best of the best content concentrated into a short amount of time, (like 2 to 5 minutes).
But that's not the only type of music porn that's out there. As you can see above, there's videos out there that are longer in their cuts, and focus on one girl instead of many, and they last for a long time (like 10 minutes to even 2 to 3 hours).
