I've been developing an addiction to video games, i played video games almost every single day meaning i played over 300+ games, yet something feels like it's missing and i can't explain it correctly. I thought i had good taste in gaming because of well received most of the games i played are but yet it feels like my tastes in gaming are autistic as hell for some reason. (Yes i have autism btw)

I shared my backlog with others online and they weren't very proud of it, like just what am i supposed to play to make my backlog a little more interesting?

I'm 18 and feeling extreme anxiety because i now have to deal with a lot of work and i want to slow down on gaming to focus on other hobbies, but it feels like i need to play even more video games despite the extreme burnout i already feel from investing in so many hours in some of the games i played.

Who gives a fuck what you play man. You're definitely autistic if you care this much (and based on the sonic games and putting fucking super mario 63 on the list).

My favorite hobby ever is playing videogames and im autistic about them too but it's also not that deep, try to moderate it and don't give a fuck what other people think as long as you're happy and healthy. I play them everyday but I also go to the gym and do my other random stuff.

Just wondering, why do you care about how your videogame habits "appear" to other people?

Because i NEED to know what genres of games i would need to play to get /v/'s approval.

I have close friends who are way older than me and use 4chan, we often talk about interests we both share and if they find out about my backlog, i might as well be doomed because they might think i have missed out on most good gaming masterpieces and that i'm way too autistic to be near them.

Yeah but if your "friends" care about what the Mongolian underwater basketweaving forum care about then they're kind of retarded. Find some people that play videogames and care about irl things aswell. This is also probably bait lol

But i'm serious, to tell you something, i didn't become friends with my closest friends because of gaming. It's because we like to dirty talk about our favorite Touhou girls and i expect them to be older than me, so i feel like they have high expectations of what i play, watch and listen to considering Touhou is one of the most 4chan things ever.

I'm just some random anon. I think your games look cool and fun. I hope this brings you some semblance of solace.

maybe try thinking about making games or at least the ideas for them. its slower and you get to output cool stuff instead of just consuming. autism plus figuringout intricacies within games sounds good

If it's becoming a problem then take a break for a bit. Listen to >>34596408 he is right on the money. If it's any consolation I think your backlog is pretty cool.

I assume you are trolling but honestly I do vaguely recall being an insecure teenager myself at some point and only playing shit like league of legends because my high school friend did

It doesn't matter. Not to patronise but at that age its natural to feel like you're 'lagging behind' for any arbitrary reason. I went through a similar phase where I wanted to cruise through all the 'best' games and all those that /v/ charts but it doesn't work that way. Even if you make it the focus of your life to the exclusion of important, actually tangent things, you still won't have the time to play a fraction of what you plan. Keep in mind that you'll be adding stuff to your list all the time. With video-games you've got to treat them as what they are, distractions, fun things to pass the time. That's not to say that they don't have some merit both in terms of gameplay, how they use their medium to tell stories and their aesthetics - but they are there to be enjoyed, not slogged away at. You can't treat Super Mario 64 like its a thesis to be written a week before its deadline. Its better to play a handful of games and enjoy them rather than 1000s of games and not. I can safely say for many of those I did clear a decade before and even a few years ago that in some cases I remember very little precisely because I rushed them and didn't take them in. Games like Lufia II, OoT... okay most are memorable thinking back, but really just relax. I remember when I let it go, booted up Gurumin and that took me away, just being a game that wasn't called 'one of the best' and let me have fun playing a game.

More recently, I've been playing around with emulation and trying out libraries of the Saturn and N64 which has been fun to explore. Really just
>boot game
>drop or play on in quick succession
You find what you like very quickly doing that.

If you have hobbies then what's stopping you from focussing on them? If you feel like you HAVE to play games then you're not really playing them. If you're using the fear that you HAVE to play them to get away from your hobbies then are they really your hobbies to begin with? Otherwise the brain just needs to rest.

On another note, seeing this site would try the rec stuff old-school /mu/-style.

The funny thing that jumps out is the Sonic RPG eps and Final Fantasy Sonic... and to think you're 18. When did you discover those? I'm a decade older and knew RPG eps 7 when I was 7 and indeed first got a computer. Classic flash game, comically easy in hindsight.. lookin through actually it seems the games we've played heavily overlap... there's a ridiculous overlap...

Well then, what were your favourite games?

What was your favourite Sonic?

Did you play through DMC in sequence as I had and did you also have the same holy shit moment upon starting 3 and finding the gameplay to be immediately perfected after 2?

Wth is Switch force?

What game did you dislike most?

Thoughts on OoT? Overrated or no? Did you try Majora's Mask? Tried it recently realising it made no sense to get pissy about the timer coming off of Outer Wilds, came to find an incredibly atmospheric game.

Bruh I'm a decade and a bit older than you and I can tell you the type of games that get praised on /v/ do not reflect real life tastes of most people who are deep in to videogames. If you worry about what /v/tards think IRL about your steam profile or whatever well you really shouldn't. People on /v/ have a strong dislike for anything that is multiplayer, competitive and anything that is viewed unanimously as a masterpiece. Final Fantasy VII would be a good example. Also a LOT of classic titles never even get mentioned on the board. I could give examples but it doesn't really matter. I guess if you want to be cool and have fun as well play something like obscure PS1 JRPG's or something that never got an official release outside of Japan. Something like Racing Lagoon or Linda3 Again.
