Magpie attacks are relatively common. If you mean the helmets, then they aren't super common, no. They're a bit redundant because magpies aren't gonna land on your helmet anyway, they just aggressively dive and swoop.

A lot of the flora and fauna in Australia have the same names as things from elsewhere, but they are not actually the same species. The Australian "magpie" is not really a magpie or in the corvid family at all, it's a totally different bird Gymnorhina tibicen. They call it a "magpie" because it resembles one but it's only superficially similar.
