Why do I care about animal feelings, other than ones I like? Even then I dont have to care about anything if I dont want to. You see anon, your holier-than-thou shrieking and perpetual angst leaves you with a rather grey aura, milquetoast as fuck. I, however, shrug and laugh at the silly bird on tv while taking a shit in walmart with single ply toilet paper, then together we both do exactly the same amount of net change to the world, except I am happier with a better attitude, thus better.

Not what I said. I dont care about something I cant impact, cany control, or cant assess the severity of. I'm chillin'. You feeling bad about a picture on the internet with your own made up story about why you should feel bad.

Brother, that bird looks pretty content, well fed, and in generally in good health. He could have been in the cage without the green for his whole life. He could like that the glass is cold. He could have posed for one second and otherwise fucked off. You are making up stories to feel bad. It's like my cat, he loves to look out the window, but he absolutely does not want to be outside. He got outside and hated it; came back skinny, covered in grease and burr hooks. That bird likes the green, if you want to make it happy get it some more, but if you just let the bird out in the jungle because a picture made you feel bad, you're almost certainly killing it. It has no ability to survive in the jungle if it was raised in captivity. It cant socialize with other birds, it doesnt know about the dangers or where to find food, and more than likely it would be eaten in two seconds in the good ending, or spend a week sick before starving to death in the bad ending.
"Reliably infering a lot about their inner state" is faggot talk for "picture made me feel bad and overrided all other thoughts".

You can't know that because you are not a bird. You are projecting what you think onto an animal completely distanced from our family and species that developed entirely different tells and signals. There's a good reason why so many people who think they can care for baby birds (that they most likely have no business even picking up) instead of taking them to a rehabber or other expert just end up killing the bird or causing it to grow both mentally and physically deformed.

>How aware are YOU or any person that they’re most likely not living in the specific environment they evolved to live in?
What kind of question is this? Look at any person who lives in an American city, for example, and you will see the soulblight of a creature forced into unnatural existence firsthand.
