Hi, I'm trying to figure out how this character's coat is structured. There are a lot of large random bits of fabric with thick outlines and different colors that suggest they're not connected, but that seems like a huge waste of fabric and the illustrator must have made a mistake. Or more likely, I've never done a military cosplay before so I just can't tell...
I divided the parts roughly based on a very basic long coat pattern I have and come up with a plan to tack on the extra fabric even if it's a waste. But I only have patterns for straight long coats, so I can't figure out how I would get the waist to be tighter?
If you recognize this coat in some military or have any similar sewing patterns, I'd appreciate any help! I don't really care about the military accuracy, but I would love it if there are existing patterns I could study from. Thanks!

Here's what I would do- CHEAT!
Construct the coat as if it were a dress. Front, back, sides, zipper in back that will be hidden by the overcoat she's wearing like a cape. Or a nice long invisible zipper in a superfluous center back seam. Yeah, probably the invisible zipper. Then I'd add all the other strange straps and flaps over the top, sewing the flaps into the nearest seam.
Costumes! They just have to look good, not function in any sensible way. Good Luck!

Thanks for the tips! I didn't want to cheat too much because I have some good white leather I was eyeing at my local craft store and didn't want it to go to waste. I'll probably try a mini 1:10 model out of some scrap fabric and see how it goes. I'm still not sure how to tighten the waist, so I might get one from Temu to dismantle, or just add a hidden belt inside.
