Drugs are bad.

I mean some are. Most people think illegal drugs were made illegal on an arbitrary basis when the reality is that they have life ruining health risks. Then when you point that out some druggie screams about SSRIs or alcohol as if the side effects are compareble to the side effects of paranoia and psychosis that half of the illicit drugs cause.

Unironically yes.
Sorry you need to justify you're addiction by pointing to people using a prescription specifically how it's intended rather than just taking a hit every hour like a fucking loser pothead. You want to compare pot to Insulin too while you're at it?

That's why it's complicated, since some drugs WERE arbitrarily criminalized. Look at just about everything involving marijuana and its criminalization, and it reads like a /pol/ schizopost. But since it's complicated, 99% of burgers will just go with it.
t. Burger that doesn't use THC, but does hate bullshit aimed at a tiny fraction of the population, but fucks over everybody because 'lol, fuck 'em '

So does alcohol. It causes 178,000 deaths in the US each year and is one of the only drugs where withdrawals can literally kill you. It tears apart families the same way as heroin and meth. But alcohol is socially acceptable, so none of that matters.

Cannabis is the leading cause in psychosis with young adults, causes IQ decline with on and off use while alcohol requires heavy use and is far worse of a risk for traffic accidents. It is materially more harmfull than beer 1:1, with the bulk of beers harm coming from societal acceptance of heavy misuse being the norm while cannabis can be harmfull even in non-heavy use.

When are we going to address the real elephant in the room?

THC drinks usually are nothing but a La Croix with some weed in it. Beer is has hundreds of calories and sugars in one can. Not even talking about the drug components, beer is extremely unhealthy, maybe even more than soda when it comes to health risks like weight gain and heart attacks. Alcohol is a drug, it's a bad one, we tried to ban it before, but hypocrites in the White House who never stopped drinking after the law passed made it come back. Drugs are drugs, no matter how socially or legally acceptable they are. Did you have a cup of coffee or a soda today? Shit, you must be some caffeine druggie.

Sorry, OP, but thanks to the CIA flooding the streets with opioids, Big Pharma™ pushing overmedication to turn the population into addicted zombies and executives snorting literally buckets of cocaine, drugs are now good.
Congratulations to drugs, for winning the War on Drugs.

How the fuck do you even statistically prove if something like this is effective or not? Like do you think there was some kind of exchange like "Hey little Jimmy did you see that PSA where Winnie the Pooh told you not to do drugs?" "Yes, I am now an extreme crackhead"

More or less. I mean the core issue is you're attacking Weed. Not to pretend weed doesn't have it's issues (Chance to cause mini psychosis episodes on very high doses, dependency issues, you're still smoking if you're not doing edibles), it's not showing kids that AWFUL drugs that do fuck people up hard like Meth, Cocaine, Crack, etc.
Granted it's because the results are usually VERY depressing to see/gross disturbing for younger kids. And plus yeah turns out a "War on Drugs" was harder than they thought, and all it did was excuse SWAT's existence, and a reason to give long prison sentences to people they didn't like if they had a baggies of weed on 'em.
I still enjoy weed myself, but thank GOD decriminalization is gaining traction in this country. (Again, not undermining Weed's problems, but then again I started like late 20s and not in my teens)

The issue with alcohol is that it's insanely easy to produce. You can't really truly ever regulate it in the same way as other drugs. You can go down to the store, pick up some oranges and yeast, and make alcohol right now in your own home. Shitty alcohol, but for an addict they don't give a fuck. Shit you don't even technically need yeast, you can just leave it open and wait for fermentation to start before sealing it so that other bacteria don't get it. They've tried this multiple times in history and it never works because as long as you can mix something with sugar into water you can make your own junk.
And yes alcohol is one of the most damaging drugs in terms of how it harms the individual and others around them, especially people that can't moderate themselves, but like literally what the actual fuck are you supposed to do?

The only drug that is allowed is wine, because it was a gift given to us by God. All others need not apply.

They introduced the problem, but the point is that treating the problem via awareness or moderation failed. In the end force worked. Afghanistan has learned that same lesson too. You lock them in a hole or line them up a wall with abusers

EU anon here. Was the drug problem really that serious in the US in the 80s and early 90s that you had video games, cartoons and other media tell you "Drugs are bad, m'kay"? I remember a good chunk of arcade games having that stupid "Winners don't take drugs" PSA.

>That doesn't sound like the British. They would never give opium for free.
You underestimate British generosity when it comes at the expense of a rival power. The French empire was made aware of that with the Napoleon wars as Britian was practically throwing money at any nation willing to go to war with France.

Partly it was overblown. And political showmanship.
But there really were a greater variety of drugs, available to a wider range of people.
Just like everything in the mid to late 20th century, advances in manufacturing, transport, and communication made the underground industry boom.
The leaders and media at the time just didn't handle it with the most tact.

>>153255143
Basically >>153255356
Conservatives love overblowing drug epidemics because it buys votes from white suburbanites. That said it was easier to showcase people that bought drugs being tossed in jail and given "just fates" than to actually go deal with the people who made drugs in South America.
Plus you can't stamp it out forever. There's always gonna be a Pablo Escobar wannabe because; where there is demand, someone will supply, and it just makes money.
So yeah, "War of Drugs" is more or less a product of a specific point in US history than anything else. The more hilariously "shit it's pants" version was D.A.R.E with the lion that ended up with more teens enjoying weed than rejecting it.
What works is just sitting older kids down, telling them about the serious had drugs that do harm and kill, and cautioning them about the legal stuff to never do it until they're at least legal, and when they do, to fucking MODERATE so they don't have all the problems that comes with over doing *ANY* drug.
