Abstraction being suicide is fine, it works. There's no reason Pomni can't communicate with Jax's abstracted ghost one last time for the plot to happen and for them to sort of reconcile. It was very obviously neither and nothing at all in chapter 7 implied either of those scenarios.

They should have spent more time on them coming to terms with them being brainscans or how Caine manipulated Scratch to become the first abstraction or literally anything else of consequence. So much in the finale either happens instantly or off screen, and the main chunk of it is just floundering around Jax for most of the runtime.
