well you could use another medium. for example, you could make a pawn out of anything you want like paper + glue or clay and let it dry. then using another soft thing that dries over time but stays kinda flexible such as those glue gun glues or silicon or putty make a mould. then fill the mould with another clay like so many times. and now you have a shit ton of identical pawns.

just use the same process people use for cutting boards for the board
for the pieces you could just do geometric modern pieces so it's easier to cut
