Is there any truth to people to the people who are saying it's a very in-demand trade that pays great with a low barrier to entry?
My shop teacher today fucking went on about how much he reccomends drywall, he says that the money is fantastic and if you can handle the job then it's a ticket to doing alright. The consensus online seems to be same.
What do you guys think?

Just get your CDL at a community college (you can use a pell grant) then apply for a lineman apprenticeship.

lots of fumes to deal with, but you get to wear stilts
in florida it's all cheap mexican labor. you never see a white guy on a drywall crew
however a handiman drywall repair after plumbing servicemen do a repipe or something like that
that pays and you'll get a white guy

Best drywall story I have was from a job I did for a big country club. Site supervisor was a huge asshole, wouldn’t let anyone park their van for more than 60 seconds to unload it. It was an upstairs 30 room add in hotel villa thing so the club was still in operation and they must have brought this guy in to keep the members happy. But the guy was such a bastard that it had the opposite effect. Once you make a few dozen tradesmen hate you good luck ever getting the job finished or done right. Dude was obsessed with trying to engineer shit on the fly himself so he was trying to tell the drywall guys from El Salvador to make this awkward access for me to finish running linesets. Drywall go barely spoke English and even he was able to communicate to site supervisor that it was just retarded and we can work around each other no access necessary. Well that fucked half the day up so when I’m talking my mile walk to the van where we had to park I see drywall dude in his Chevy s10, tallboy bullfight in lap, window down, lit Marb 27, and the road of the main drag to the country club beside him, filled with chicken bones he had tossed out at lunch, sitting there asleep. Site supervisor guy nearly had some kind of heart attach. Drywallers don’t give a fuck, it’s not a trade for smart people

It's exhausting work but absolutely brain dead. If you're any good at it you can make some real bank with the right company or union work but if you're a retard drug addict who can't speak english you'll still have a stable job because I swear nothing short of murdering someone on the clock can get you fired from this line of work.

If you want to make money in drywall start a drywall company. It's really not a skilled trade cause it's easy, but carpenters will probably fuck.you over in how they haven't installed blocking. I've done a lot of drywall over the years with full gutting and converting rentals. Always done it myself but next time around I'll sub the mudding and taping out cause that shit is a pain in the ass with the amount of sanding. Tip for drywall get yourself one of these to hang the ceiling. They're super cheap and work great. Situations where your ceiling is just over 8" I always mill a piece of 1/2" plywood (CDX not OSB) and screw it to the studs on the floor you'll be able to just lay it on that plywood and screw the drywall in without holding it up

Gyp board is just trade lingo for drywall. Gypsum is chalk, fuck what google says
>While the chalk used on blackboards is often made from gypsum, this does not mean that gypsum itself is chalk.
Drywall is chalk sandwiched between two pieces of paper. It's easy to form interior walls and make smooth for paint.
Plaster and render methods need lath backing and multiple full coats. It's a lot of work to skim every single inch of wall. Drywall you only have to hit the seams and holes.

Most hardware stores have them. Any builder supply or yard can drop full bunks on a flatbed for you.
