WTF is wrong with it?
Fell out of Pending at least 3x since 2021.

Bought less than two years ago, now up for sale again. Pics indicate owner has bunch of little kids living in it, so WTF pull up stakes?

Maybe he got a job somewhere and has to move???

Weird design, but seems like it could be nifty to have nice big fully covered space just outside nice two car garage. Could greatly expand into semi-inside space by hanging some plastic greenhouse shit and a couple more garage doors for pass through.

Gee, I wonder if he has Inspections and shit from the Loan he got less than two years ago???

Schools are rated shit (for PA) but "student demographics" not that bad.

a truck could just go around and drive on the lawn.

definitely a "custom" design, which IMO probably means better quality, and 1975 ain't too bad an era. Wood was still good, more or less modern, but not yet real crappy. Built by White Americans.

Would that span have to be steel??? 24' 2x14?
30' 4x16 semi-special order in 1975?
>>
Google streetview seems oddly shy of the area.
>>
>>2991918
looks like that carport thing is bowing
>>
That's a hell of a distance to free span, I wonder what framing members were used to create that platform...

This is what came to mind when I saw it. It is like a Queenslander or a house that has been elevated after it was built. This house isn't actually in Mount Union. It is in an unincorporated area called 'Wayne' and there is a borough between it and Mount Union: Kistler. Both Mount Union and Kistler have flooded a few times in the last hundred years. That said, this place isn't right on the river like they are and FEMA (however much they can be trusted) says flood risk is low.

All that said, this whole area is dying. There's about 40k people in the whole county, but most of the boroughs have been bleeding population for decades, and the nearest 'city' is Huntingdon with only 7k people. Mount Union is half the size it was at its peak and it has been doing nothing but going down since the 1930s. They had a major flood in 1936 so, yeah, I'd be concerned. I mean, do you mind living someplace with shit services? The nearest emergency room is 25 minutes away. The schools aren't very good. It also has more dollar stores than grocery stores, which is a bad sign. The roads are also rather poor.

I mean, if you come from the sticks you are probably used to stuff like this but if you lived in a decent sized town or city this place would probably suck.

First thing is that it's in the middle-of-fucking-nowhere Pennsylvania. You'd have to either be retired or work-from-home to make a go of this place.

Very good chance it needs a roof.

As pointed, out that add-on over the driveway is sagging and it's apparent in every pic. God knows what that's doing to the attachments to the main house particularly on the roof. Inspections likely turned up significant work needed and that's why it's repeatedly fallen out of pending. Considering that most things look better in pics than IRL, that amount of sagging has got to be disturbing in person

Oh, and that industrial-looking eyesore immediately to the SE plays a role was well. Aerial in Maps shows the place looking mostly dormant but the aerial in the listing pics indicates much more activity with equipment and trailers backed right up to the property line. Possibly noisy at all hours and dusty in the summer.
>>
OP here....

thx, everyone!

Yeah, too many red flags and while I am retired and also wanting lots of garage space, and I am an old carpenter so in theory maybe I could deal with structure funnies....just not that appealing since its not around any particular natural beauty and probably just dumb meth and fent heads.

wtf

Why is it so expensive?
>>

why does an old retired guy want a big ridiculous house like that?
get a little 2 bed on a big property with a shop like a normal person

my shop stuff might need some office space and I might do a WFH internet startup.

the current retard owner bought it for $245k + 3% buying fee + probably $5k in fixed closing costs, which means a cost basis around $260k. a selling price of $275k less 3% selling fee is slightly above breakeven.
>>
>>2992086
the fuck is buying fee
>>
I dont think that was raised by fema.
I dont want to damn the roof without seeing more

looks to me like both ends of the house were additions.
the outbuildings have galvie steel panelling all over them. Someone at some point clearly could build, and liked that

the saaame as the underside of the carport thing.
I think the columns and spacing on that looks like it prolly is shakey as hell even if it is steel. the block columns make me very afraid, its obviously not conventional.

lally posts and a beam immediately, no more driveway, and get some fuckin 45 bracing on those posts

look at the stairs from the deck. No triangles anywhere. I bet a person climbing those can damn near shake the house
thats a long lever. steel is springy. wood loaded like that... might be too. who knows what it is, yikes x 1000
>>
>>2992100
buying and selling realtors both get a fee. both pieces aren't always paid for by the seller.

I don't see it, and yes I'm interested to meet the engineer that said ok to landing their den addition and deck on 3 vertical and 1 slanted columns.
>>
I cannot understand why they are so addicted to running their lap diagonally. If their triangle windows at a different slope than the ceiling wasn't enough, now there are tons of weird lines from orange lap all over the master. Oh, and you can see it from the street because the siding matches. Have a Coors to wash away the rest of the decor.

I would bet money that your bottom left photo is an original room straight from 1975. I grew up in a room with the same aesthetic. The only difference was the mirrors on the closet doors in my room had gold marbling and the carpet was harvest gold.

https://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/834-Kistler-Rd_Mount-Union_PA_17066_M33620-15891 has more photos.

The middle of the house seems original to me. Classic split level 70's design. I agree with the previous poster's statement that the house was bookended with additions. Probably sometime in the 1990s. They likely did the kitchen at the same time. That is why you have the same ugly vinyl flooring in there as one of the new bedrooms. The triangular windows were likely off the shelf, which is why they don't match the roof pitch. The kitchen cabinets are the same deal. Which is why there is a gap between them and the ceilings. Which, based on the doorframes, are only about 7 feet for some reason.

I don't know what is up with the bathroom. It looks a littler newer than the 90's but also more half-assed. The vanity looks 90's but the ceilings are original 70's and the tile looks a bit newer. Maybe 2000s? Maybe they did the work in phases?

Then there is that weird pantry/shop (outlet strips, which look vintage 70s) room with the laminate imitation butcherblock counters and the drop in ceilings. Why are the ceilings angled? Who pained the fake wood paneling white?

Have you all seen that outbuilding that is made with two cargo containers from 2 large box trucks? I figured people on here would be all over shit that like redneck women at a boxed wine sale at Bevmo.

90s is the dream pop of home design.

I'm fine with the 70s room. I'd rather the panels not turn green and only accent walls vs all 4. But that room does not give me anxiety because it knows what it is.

The rest of the house gives me concern. The kitchen is very basic to have the two nonEuclidean rooms on both ends. None of the rooms are isolated, but there are posts, and railing, and refrigerators in every walkway. It would have been ok to not have the kitchen bleed into what everyone else is doing.
Split levels are always stupid. Have your grandparents run into a railing and have to climb another stair set just to come in.

They have a great yard and there's a barn. That won't compensate if the addition falls onto the driveway.

Oh shit, I just realized what the weird pantry/shop room is. They converted the porch on the back of the house. That is why they used drop in ceilings and they are at a weird angle. I mean, the whole point of drop in ceilings is to hide shit like that but clearly whoever did the work didn't get that memo.

i didnt look this close at the "barn"

thats pennsyltucky as hellll

You get out into the middle of PA and the problem is that the roads go ALL AROUND the state lands. Looks like it's 45 miles from Harrisburg, as the crow flies but that could be a hell of a lot further, on 2-lane backroads.

That house looks like a cobbled-together mess. Probably started with a basic 1-level, single-family home blueprint, then extended it a few feet, THEN added on those whacky-ass extensions. It's maybe kinda cool, but contractors are NOT architects and I've seen them do some stupid shit, when they start modding plans. I'd do a thorough inspection of the framing, from the basement to the attic.

99% of the time when a buyer pulls out it's because of structural concerns or mold that were found during inspection and deemed too expensive to remain interested

one of my all time fave houses was a rental that was "last house standing" in an otherwise industrial area. Cheap and easy commute in an otherwise grossly overpriced upscale SF Gay Area town, and after 6pm it was almost rural feeling. Only traffic after about 7pm would be various Security Patrols. But dust wasn't an issue and it WAS short commute to highest wages in USA.
>>
>>2992218
stairs going down straight to front door is bad Feng Shui. Supposed to "cause wealth to run out" like water.

Plus, as a practical matter, seems like safety hazard. If you stumble (more likely because stuff going on with front door) you are likely falling onto open door edge and/or windows.

so every split level home is bad feng shui
>>
>>2993813
How many times do you actually go in the front door of your house when there is a side door in the garage/parking area?
>>
>>2993829
objectively

>>2993840
Normally the garage is in the lower level of a split. There are better stair layouts than having traffic curl around the railing directly behind the front door. Keep in mind people put shoe racks, coats, and pet stuff on these landings.
>>
>>2993829
my split level doesn't have stairs going directly toward the front door. most of the split levels in my neighborhood don't have that either.

theres no way thats supported correctly unless theres like 16 inch steel there. thats a fucking 30-35 foot span. my addition has like a 10x10 steel beam for a 16 foot span and thats prolly just a bit over built.
