Is a black suit/black shirt appropriate for a wedding?

I did it and no one cared and there were like three other guys who did the same thing. Some dudes were wearing fucking jeans and khakis. There are no real standards or expectations for men in 2026 everyone expects you to look like a bum, do whatever you want.

you trynna fuck? then sure.

Oxford grey suit, with some subtle pattern, a blue shirt (french blue) and a normal tie (idk brown vintage armani one), and some black boots (like a dior harness boot) is what i would go with though

Boring.

I thought it was rude because it could be seen as a bad omen

It'll look like shit, but I guess it's better than a tee shirt. It's hard to justify a black shirt outside a casual setting.

You really don't have a different colored shirt or suit? What tie are you wearing? Do you have a vest or waistcoat?

whats your definition of casual? Black shirts are standard for going out at night, black is sexy.

Black suit yes, black shirt, no.

Depends on the dress code, but that combo will generally make you look like you're poorly attempting to look like John Wick, so I recommend either a lighter shirt or a lighter suit.

A fitted black shirt contributes to a sexy and mysterious feel, I can't imagine wearing one in a casual setting.

You stupid bastards wear all black and wonder why the bus drives past you at night.
The driver can't see you

No, black suits are for funerals. Wear a navy one.

I mean sort of, but it looks like shit unless you're Keanu Reeves. Actually even if you're Keanu Reeves it's not good. Wear a white shirt and a textured waistcoat.

>Black shirts are standard for going out at night
Firstly, you can wear other colors for night time.
Secondly, "going out" at night is an extremely casual affair.

like compare/contrast. It's a wedding, not a Prague nightclub in 2014.

If it's appropriate to feel sexy/mysterious, then you are DEFINITELY in a casual setting.

This looks way better for a wedding. How AIslop can be more cognizant of appropriate attire for human social gatherings than OP is a dire warning of things yet to come.

No, you aren't john wick trying to go to a friend's wedding but inexorably ending in an epic cinematic shootout, you are also not mourning a loss even if the man getting married is a bro you always wanted to hold hands and cuddle with but won't be able to.
you are also not a nightclub security guard or similar staff to wear full black-on-black formal.
Go with charcoal gray, navy as the darkes, generally you shouldn't try to outstyle the bride and groom

I've been to a number of birthday parties, cocktail parties, diners, and even two corporate/promotional events where people were expected to dress formal (enough) and that I would consider formal (enough).
I've seen plenty of men and women making an effort to look sexy and mysterious there.

It certainly also depends on what you mean by formal, but I could even see someone at a black tie optional event wearing a black shirt under a black suit.
