Royal Oak 15400 in rose gold, which you could only wear on special occasions
vs. 15300 in steel, which you could wear anywhere, but has an extremely poor price-to-impact ratio and could basically be replaced by a Tissot.

>has an extremely poor price-to-impact ratio
how come every rapper wears one
>>

I was never a fan of those, they look poorly finished and not luxury to me.
Also, they have zero cultural impact (unlike Omega with James Bond and diving, and Rolex with pretty much everything else).
What is supposed to make you dream about those watches?
>>
>>18711071
both those are long discontinued
the steel is way more versatile but the rose gold hits when it needs to. recommend trying in person because they wear differently than you think
>own both versions in 15202/16202
>>
>>18711081
>What is supposed to make you dream about those watches?
I'll admit I didn't give a fuck about the RO for decades, until I held one in person and put it on. life changed forever. they're exquisite and not over hyped at all. some things just don't photograph
>zero cultural impact
has absolutely nothing to do with my choices. no one is reciting the history of cotton, denim, leather, steel etc. when they look at your clothes and jewelry. and if they are, I want nothing to do with them
>>
>>18711084
>has absolutely nothing to do with my choices.
Cool, to each his own. For me, the whole lore about a watch is important, even if it's bullshit (like who wore the watch, if you see it in books or films, if it's made for a purpose).
The Royal Oak is not made for a purpose, it's not a diver, not a field watch, not really a dress watch... I guess it's an early fashion watch, therefore for me, pure consumer product without meaning, that's what i don't like about it.
>>
>>18711073
Iced-out obviously stands out. But if we’re talking about steel, it really does have the typical steel-watch problem: To most people, it just looks like any other steel watch. Rappers probably have the steel version either because they’re simply watch enthusiasts with the money and/or because they also misjudge its visual impact. But they usually also have tons of other flashy watches anyway.
>>18711073
Yeah, they don’t look like luxury watches, at least not in steel. But they’re also not really supposed to. It’s just a very distinctive design, and you either like it or you don’t. Most fans are simply fascinated by the way it plays with geometric shapes.
>>18711082
>both those are long discontinued
Yeah, that’s true. The Jumbo is obviously the coolest one. But on the other hand, it’s even more delicate and comes with another fairly big premium. The 15300 was the only one that also had 39 mm like the Jumbo. But there was no version of the 15300 with a gold bracelet. The 15400 has afaik the only 41 mm gold version with a light dial.
>>
>>18711104
the history of the RO is pretty rich. if we're talking about mainstream pop culture implementation for the masses, then obviously the RO doesn't have any clout, and that's exactly what I don't care about. I don't need my jewelry to reference what an actor wore in a movie or what an advertising agency whipped up for boomers who read magazines. that's the kind of "culture" I want nothing to do with.
>>
>>18711114
>I don't need my jewelry to reference what an actor wore in a movie or what an advertising agency whipped up for boomers
For some watches it's bullshit, for others it's not.
The fact that Truman Capote used to wear a Cartier Tank or Hunter S Thompson used to wear a Rolex GMT, it adds to the romanticism and identity of the watch.
Otherwise, if it's just a movement in a stainless steel case with no identity, might as well wear a San Martin or an Addiesive.

Expensive watches work like this: When you wear one, you know how much it’s worth and that it’s real. And that's much more important than the actual look. But if you’re wearing a fake, you know the whole time that you’re an impostor - and then the watch makes you weaker than if you were simply wearing a Tissot, an Apple Watch, or nothing at all.

I’m sure they could have done something that referenced the Snowflake hand style. something like what they did with the Monarch would be cool.
Chronographs typically need thin hands so you can use the chronograph all the time. With a wide handset, you can’t use the chronograph between 2:30 and 3:30 because the hour hand is partially covering the chronograph subdial.
>>
>>
>>18714186
Find a chronograph that’s thinner while still having 200m WR, a column-wheel and vertical clutch movement, and costs at or around 6750USD.
I’m just kidding, of course. I’m not going to send you on a fool’s errand.
In reality, though. 1-1.5mm of the thickness is coming from the cambered crystal.

Idgaf, 13mm thickness on a 39mm watch wears like shit.
The Speedmaster Reduced came out in 1988 with two movements inside and was still more compact than what Tudor releases in 2026 almost 40 years later. What a joke.

I know that just because some braindead moron designs 11mm thick two-hander dress watches, doesn't mean that anyone else should.
Then again, thickness is part of a package and I was very clear that it's the combination of thickness and diameter that bothers me.

If the strap you buy use traditional straps it kind of sucks to change them, but most strap these days use "quick release pins like picrel", so it's easy.
>How long do batteries last?
Around 2 to 3 years.
Your question makes me think that you think all watches use batteries (quartz). But traditional and luxury watches don't use batteries but an automatic movement that charges itself with your own movements.

No one is buying an aftermarket bracelet for a Rolex Daytona or a Patek.
You buy OEM designed by the brand for the watch. And if it's leather, the buckle has to match the watch, same metal, same brand.

@fez8772 weeks ago
the rehaut, date change is not a good indicator to differentiate between Gen & Rep. I have owned a couple Sub, none of them have the crown line up perfectly at 12. Best way to tell and the ONLY you should do is pop the caseback open and check the movement

And ppl in the comments section who owb rolex watches are saying even genuine rolex watches have significant errors. Quality control is low from Rolex. ROLEX ARE JUST MASS PRODUCING WATCHES
And then other commenters are saying "if you cannot find any difference between my rep and a gen unless you have a magnifiying glass and you open the back, i am going to buy the rep"

The craftsmanship of replica watches from Guangzhou’s Zhanxi market, especially Rolex replicas, has reached about 99% similarity in appearance if you don’t examine the movement closely. They use the Dandong 3135 movement, which is known for its good stability, long service life, and relatively low maintenance cost. As an everyday commuting watch, it offers strong value for money and also provides a lot of emotional satisfaction. It can make you look more prestigious and help reduce certain social costs as well

I bought a date just from mod watches uk. Had it for about 8 months now. Honestly it is unbelievable how close it looks to the gen. I do also have a gen DJ41 fluted bezel in mint green. But I actually wear the clone more often cos I'm less scared of getting it robbed I don't think it's a bad idea to have a clone of it if you have a gen already. Actually a smart move imo especially in London where even Uber eats drivers are getting robbed on the bikes

eh. my AD purchased 2019 SeaDweller DeepSea JC changes the date at about 12:05am. it's 7 years old, no service done and it's still within +/- 2 seconds if I wear it daily. when it's in the safe with its buddies that are waiting their turn for wear, it's +/- 3 to 4 seconds from manual winding every other day. now my Tudor Pelagos 42mm.... I'm annoyed with it. it's consistently 7 or -8 seconds each day whether I wear it or wind it. Frustrating. The other Tudors are +/ around 2 or 3 seconds daily. I'm happy considering the price difference.

The crystal pops out a bit above the bezel on the gen too tho?
Also, spend some time browsing the Rolex subreddit. Lots of genuine Rolexes have rehauts that are way worse than replicas. Basically it comes down to the movement and if you have a keen eye for the finish of the dial/flutted bezel, and of course the movement.
Wow i feel good

It..It just dawned on me; Tudor is actually better than Rolex.
Tudor is a master chronometer while Rolex is "superlative". What does that mean in practise? Rolex doesn't even do third party certification on them, instead they do their own testing and deem it "better".
I'm so glad I went with my BB54, after getting it, I don't even think about Rolex. In a world where Rolex screams status, Tudor whispers taste. A Rolex is the billboard of success, but Tudor? It’s the secret handshake of those who know better. You pay less, yet get a sibling forged in the same fires—Swiss precision, timeless design, and none of the "look-at-me" hysteria. A Tudor is a poet's watch; a Rolex, a salesman’s pitch. Why spend double to impress strangers when you could spend less and impress yourself?

Watches are one of the few accessories/jewelry that men can traditionally wear. A man needs a watch to be considered a working member of society, getting your first watch when you're a teen is a rite of passage.
Watches are functional precision instruments, they keep you organized and literally on time throughout the day, this is the reason quartz (watches) still exist.
As you progress in life you want to signal your elevated social status with a finer timepiece, something more than a mere timekeeper. In this stage of life time is not essential, you don't need to be in your wagie cage within the second. That is why people acquire, or as I like to say, meet mechanical timepieces. Watches such as Omega, Tudor and Rolex.
In a professional or any environment with affluent males, your watch is your Curriculum Vitae, your rank in a way. People will know you had to go further in life than your average poorfaggot mathlete to acquire a fine Patek for example.
Now I don't know your age, but could you imagine being over 25 and wearing a wagie poorfag incel seething bitter faggot lardass brainlet quartz watch in a serious environment? I don't think so, you'll be giving yourself away as a absolute loser in life and people will think there's something seriously wrong with you and wonder why you're even there with your cheap shitter piece of shit nasty crusty chinese watch.
Trust me, you don't want to be part of the quartz horde. Join the ranks of the men with sophistication and class and meet your mechanical watch. Discard your nasty wagie faggot ass piece of shit computer chip "watch".

>It got "Customs clearance completed" yesterday so hopefully that means it's in the clear.
They are probably just waiting for you to be stupid enough to pick it up in person or deliver it to your home address.

Anyone else notice how the quality of these threads dropped by a large margin ever since whoretadello left?
We used to joke /wt/ stands for whoretadello's thread, but little did we know that actually was the case. In the good old days whoretadello and other avatarfrens discussed watches and made fun, quality posts in harmony with regular users. /wt/ actually was a comfy and meaningful place with its own identity.
All this eventually turned to shit when bittercel started his relentless smear campaign. I suppose the only actual reason for that was his jealousy of whoretadello's wealth and social relationships. His mind turned his hard earned wealth into "tax fraud, inheritance money and liquidating his entire networth" and his relationships became nothing more than prostitution and human trafficking.
I am sad that he left, but I understand his reasons. Eventually the smear would've gotten to him and affect his cheerful view of life in general. He did the right thing seeking better, more successful people and I don't blame him.
I guess all good things come to an end and I want to thank you for the good times we had, in whoretadello's thread.

Does Richard Mille make ugly shit on purpose like Balenciaga? These watches are horrendously expensive and almost hurt to look at. They look worse than some G-Shocks.

I think they are fun watches, but i also like picrel, G-shorts and swatches. You don't like fun?
What's really outrageous is the price.

IMO, and keep in mind I'm highly intelligent, what these watches do is that look busy, very busy, there is a lot going on, AND on top of that they actually look like they're bloated, like they have expanded to a point that they might POP! And to the 80 iq consumptard they LOVE the look of this because it symbolizes CONSUMPTION perfectly. Then you attach the high price tag and it froths the 80 iq consumptard up even further. They look at this and think it must be worth so much because it is about to BURST OPEN and FLING TREASURES AROUND THE ROOM
It is a very primal design.
Imagine, for example, being semi-starved and then coming across a berry bush overflowing with ripe berries ready to burst with sugary juices

The quality of the threads has not changed in the slightest, just the style of shitposting. If a car rolls over your foot, you don't care what color the car is.

If you have a Rolex, why are you working as an Uber eat driver? Or should i say why do you have a Rolex if you're working as an Uber eat driver?

>Just found out the santos dumont uses a proprietary strap system.
No, it doesn't. Normal straps fit just fine. The regular Santos uses a proprietary system and normal straps won't work at all.
The Santos-Dumont has a custom shaped spring-bar carrier to make sure the strap fits perfectly flush between the lugs, but you can still use a normal strap and it will work perfectly. The traditional strap will look like a traditional strap with a gap between the case and the lugs. The Cartier strap will fit flush.
Picrel. You can see it uses a standard springbar.

Cont.
Here's an example of a normal strap. You can see how there's a gap.

A beautiful watch. Could you recommend other vintage Swiss quartz <$5k that don’t look dated? I’ve been looking at omega as well, but bracelet looks like trash compared to this iwc.
