Remembered the subject this time edition
What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bick4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them
How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush
>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.
>Are Thursdays any good?
no.

if you tell chatgpjeet what shoe you're looking at getting and tell it all the sizes you wear in stuff you own, it gives pretty good sizing recs
you were just gonna scour reddit anyway, chat does it for you
just saying

it's gotten a lot better at sizing, still kind of iffy, though, struggles with widths a lot
so clear that it overrelies on reddit because if you feed it your iron ranger size as the only reference it will size you compltely wrong in everything

does water actually damage suede or are people retarded? I clean my shoes with suede cleaner and then rinse it off with water and was wondering if im actually fucking them up.
People say it dries them which is fixable with conditioner after, or the nap gets lowered which is fixed with a brush which is again something you do afterwards anyway. So don’t get why they say it. Also how are you supposed to clean the lining if it is made of fabric if you’re not gonna use water.
I dab them with a towel to draw the excess water. Someone let me know if you have any experience on this.

nah it's fine if you just let it air dry and give it a brushing after
literally the first thing i do when i get anything new in suede or roughout is soak it with the water hose and wear it until it dries. basically breaks them in immediately
no damage at all. just give it a brush. if you're worried they make specific brushes for getting the nap back

Tbh I've never been much a boot guy in my life but in this past year I've gotten boots from Viberg, John Lofgren, RM Williams and Red Wing and in all cases I've had to deal with heel blisters. Sizing down was too tight, sizing up was too loose.
Are boots just not for me

Damn good to know.

>brushes
The wavy rubner and brass ones? I have a small one and I’ll ise it after they’ve dried. Saw on one bottle of suede cleaner that it recommended to give them a brish while wet too.

Did you do anything to them after? I imagine you must’ve at least rinsed out the salt stains.

Don’t get how this is a boot specific issue, it’s just a fit issue no? You can either look for different lasts or maybe get a custom made pair or make changes to them like more insole if their are too loose.

Because these sorts of boots (and really all the HeRiTaGe/PNW/Americana-slop styles) are performative shit. The same way most people who buy these things are weak little office workers who will never even wear their boots in the way that will require a recraft or resoling. And they look completely out of place with anything besides lumberjack-larp. They're just the rightoid dogwhistle of footwear. You know what looks way better and actually somewhat genuine? Cheaper, beat to shit boots that have clearly seen piles of wear and neglect.

pretty much all good leather shoes can and probably will give blisters. i like to do a couple hours the first day, 4 the next, 8 the next and after that they're usually broken in an i didn't get blisters
i've got straight to 8+ hours with brand new boots and regretted it every single time

How long should it take to know if boots are the right size? If it is half a size too big would I know right away?
The advice is to wear them around the house, but the websites say they won't accept returns/exchanges if there are creases in the leather or dust on the sole.
