its a decent investment but its not a life changing cardio machine by any means.
i still have my concept2 that i bought over covid. erg rowing is perfect if my joints are feeling sore or if its raining.
otherwise i'd honestly rather go do hill sprints, jumprope, or do something thats more dynamic than pulling a rower in my garage for an hour.

Most overrated meme, only loses to crossfit in general
For me it is getting a Treadmill with the highest incline setting you can afford (Incline Walking is God tier LISS)
And use the remaining money to get an Assault Bike (King of HIIT)
>b-b-but why 2 machine when i could get 1
Because meme rowing doesn't excel at either LISS or HIIT, it is basically just Concept2 shills overhyping it

Was a rower for eight years, if you're not already a rower you'll get more out of a stationary bike. Literally never seen someone in the gym on one of these look remotely like they knew what they were doing, and if you don't know what you're doing you're not using your full body effectively, e.g. you're not getting any of the purported benefits over a bike or treadmill or anything else you're just torquing the fuck out of your lumber spine and looking like a retard

>its not a life changing cardio machine by any means
It would be if you used it regularly. The sad fact is that rowing is so utterly boring that literal walking or jogging looks like a thrill ride in comparison.

About 4 or 5 years now. Zoomers use globalized approved slang and the psyoppers have chosen hip hop slang for it's low complexity, child like, and sing songy qualities for ease of transfer to the lowest npc hordes. They have nothing regionalized of their own.

Any tips? As far as I know you should extend the legs, aim the bar for the bottom of your pecs, retract your scalpula and end up at an 11 o'clock angle, viewed from the right.
On return the bar should slide down your thighs until the knees and you end up in a 1 o'clock position.
Obviously try to keep a natural arch in your back and your neck in line with your upper spine.
Am I supposed to lock out my knees at the top?

You don't need to sweat the exact body angles, that depends a lot on the person and school of thought. A lot of elite rowers go for a ton of layback on the erg, like approaching 45 degrees, because they have the core strength to sustain it. Just don't round your lower back up front or let it slump at the end of the stroke. The two big things I see people fuck up are not using their lats properly, i.e. pulling with their shoulders raised instead of keeping the lats in tension and suspending their body a bit through the pull, and not waiting for their shoulders to pass back over the seat on the recovery before bending the legs. If your legs bend early you put a lot of pressure on the hip flexors to swing the body forward and you'll have a terrible time at high rates. Start the stroke with your shins vertical, shoulders low but slightly forward, enough to bring the lats into tension. Press through with your heels, think about trying to split your weight between the handle and the foot plate and being light on the seat as you drive back, and hold off on the body swing until your legs are about halfway down. It should be a smooth transition obviously. Aim for 18-22 spm for zone 2 work. IDK your cardio fitness but I coach (mediocre to decent) high schoolers and those scrawny kids can rip around 2:05 to 2:00 for 30-40 minutes at a 20 without their heart rate going over 150. Olympians will be under 1:50 for zone 2.

>low impact
>full(-ish) body workout
>gives a nice shoulder and lats pump
>requires technique
>can fuck with your back day
>harder than rooning
Kind of a mixed bag. I use it in winter cause it beats a stationary bike or the treadmill.

i'm of the opinion that the rower is not shilled enough, let the clueless flock to the rower
incline walking should stay underrated
the treadmill zone in public gym are always littered, i don't want it to get even more popular, i hate training next to so many people
i agree on assault bike though, the rower will never be able to compete against the assault bike for high intensity anaerobic sets, not even close

time seems to pass by so slow when i erg. probably due to the fact that theres a fucking split timer infront of you 24/7 or a force curve that you stare at.
when im out on the trails or hiking, 40 minutes goes by like its nothing.

I've got zero muscle mass and I'm a totally un-fit skinnyfat skelly. (seriously, btw)
Will starting to row at least "tone" my body and will I look at least as such as if I was working out?
I'm not expecting visible muscles,
but it does build muscle mass if you've got - like me - FUCKING ZERO.
genuine question.
