Started bicycling again and its so much harder than what I thought it would be. When I was 12 I was cruising through hills but now a slight incline is challenging.

I've been there. Started to cycle again last year in june for the first time in over 20 years. Shit was hard as fuck. Remembering the distances I travelled as a kid, seemingly unfazed, made me question myself so hard. I kept at it tho and now I can go far and fast (I think 24mph over a timeframe of 2 minutes was my highest sustained speed so far).

You're an adult now so you're moving more weight, which will slow you down, especially if you're fat. Goes double for any kind of incline. Cycling is a weight-to-power ratio sport, which is why the professionals are stick thin above the waist.
Keep at it, though, like 2-3x a week. Cycling gets pretty breezy over time, and it's way lower impact than, say, running.
