You should never update anything on your system.

You should get the OS you like, get all the software you need, then never update anything.

>B-b-b-but... n-n-n-new features!!!
If there are new features you need then you didn't get the right software in the first place. All the software you could ever need is solved, nobody adds meaningful new features in current year. Literally does not ever happen. Only pointless tweaks which confuse your workflow, or needless changes that might break things.

>B-b-b-but... SECURITY!!!!! SECURITY!!!!!!!! PATCHED FOR SECURITY!!!!!!!!!
Insane delusion. No individual on earth has ever been victim of a cyber attack due to lack of security. Targeted exploit attacks only happens to large organizations who actually have a reason to be targeted. Attacks only happen to individuals due to extreme stupidity like installing malware or falling for jeet tricks. No amount of updating can avoid that.

In fact, the only other thing that can cause security breaches for an individual is... !UPDATES! ...by way of them being compromised and infected with malware. If you are running tried and tested software you know is not infected, why would you risk updating to something infected which would compromise your system? It doesn't make any sense.

The only logical solution is to NEVER UPDATE.

Update obsession is driven by bugman FOMO mentality (What about the newest things? What if the updates give other people get something I don't have?), or the schizophrenic-tier delusion that mysterious hackers are constantly trying to access your computer specifically with obscure exploits, to gain access to the absolutely zero data of any interest that you have.

How often do you hear of updates causing problems?
All the time. It happens to everyone.

How often do you hear of updates improving a system?
Never, it has never happened and never will.

The only sane and sensible thing to do is NEVER UPDATE.

NEVER UPDATE.

You should keep a backup of the version of the distro you are comfortable with as well, as all the software, so you can pick up right where you left on in the case of a fresh install.

Notice the AI slop image, the lack of any compelling argument and the stench of desperation. This is a glavset prostitute trying to add you to the botnet.

i pointed this out on /k/ because thats where you see the most FSB propaganda but its very easy to spot it. it always follows the same template of "suggest an idea -> interrogate and pressure -> summarize and close discussion"

outside of the bigotry towards Indians, I agree with you, just use an offline workstation. The only updates my GIMP has are the new plugins I make myself. Update obsession likely has to do with dopamine pathways in the brain firing in illusionary ways to make the updooter feel productive.

The best experience for my GIMP plugins will always be GIMP 3.0.4 or 3.0.5 from May 2025, though they work on 3.2 and earlier.

2. us vs them nars are the way human brains are naturally biased to think. These simple binary stories hijack our brains reward pathways over complex truth. Human brains didn't evolve to see complex multifacited truths, they evolved to understand quick information in the jungle to survive.

3. Charistmatic leaders tap into our evolved urge to obey and submit to an alpha male, that's why MAGA never turns from Trump despite all his embarrassing stupid ass moments such as the "praise Allah" Iran port blockage tantrum, or Gunther on X contradicting himself every few years

8. is how so many health scams work on Youtube, they all claim this secret doctrine will cure your disease and to watch the video before it gets taken down. this one doesn't tap into evolutionary explanations outside of maybe novelty seeking, (exotic disease cure)

Name one example. If you download a virus purposefully on your computer and then execute it that's on you.
Please explain the attack vector to access my system, I would love to hear it

If we really want to nerd out we would need before and after comparisons for any type of update. Windows Vista clearly improved over time compared to launch. Yeah VLC from five years ago might not be much different than today but it once didn't have HD codecs or whatever.

Based thread. I used to never update, never had any problems. Then recently I started updating more regularly, and in the past two years I've had to deal with reconfiguring shit that was messed up in the update, on top of worrying about supply chain attacks. And I use fucking Linux. I can only imagine the additional stress of worrying about a Windows patch bricking your system, too.

I do make regular backups, but a man shouldn't have to deal with this shit. Period. Going back to never updating.

The image you shared was made with a model that's not so old.
Either you never tried the first diffusion models when they came out, either you updated them to a better model.
Either way, by your logic you are now stuck with this model even if better ones come out.

You can put Windows in a VM with your favorite software, disable networking. You don't need to worry about MS updates with a setup like that. The only programs that really need/justify native execution are multiplayer games.

>but what about muh subscriptionslop service package from ms/adobe/autodesk?

Your problem. Most users don't need that shit.
