Obsolete technology

They can be retrofitted with SD cards but you're kinda limited in which codecs are truly viable because of the ancient CPU. Only for the serious tinkerer.
>>
>>108609752
what fucking codecs bro? it supports MP3 and AAC, the fuck else do you need?
>>
>>108609636
it doesn't handle true vbr files well
>>
>>108609636
I have a chinkshit mp4 player with SD card slot, good battery life and physical buttons, good enough for me
>>
>>108609762
My collection is 3000+ albums and growing so being able to store them in opus helps.

OOOOOO NOW DATS A CROMULENT NUGGET M8

They were absurdly, absurdly based when they were new. When I was in 7th grade, the 3rd gen Ipod nano had just came out and I got one for christmas. I used that shit for like 6 years, daily use daily carry. They were durable, just worked, and the wheel UI was incredible.

Today, I just use my smartphone because I prefer to stream my music from my home server. But the Ipod was incredible. Zoomers really won't get it.

Facts bro. The wheel system for using the menus was gassed as fuck. Apple are niggerfaggots but they really cooked with those early iPods. I had the one in the op for a long ass time.
>>
not bad back when they had huge storage (for the time) and you could run custom firmware on them
>>
>>108609636
Obsolete
>b-but rockbox
Yes, even with rockbox. The DAC on classic iPods isn't good. Rather than buy an iPod with a dead HDD and having to replace it with a SSD, you're better off just buying one of those chink F20s and putting rockbox on it.
>>
>>108609636
I always loved the idea of a spinning hdd you walk around/jog with
>>
>>108612102
No, it's a music library, it's what everybody did before companies like Spotify brainwashed us all into thinking it was a better deal to go on paying forever to own nothing.
>>
>>108612141
all dacs are transparent retard
>>
>>108612161
I have 328 albums in my collection and that's including friend's stuff and duplicates for different quality's ...
>>
I mostly listen to music at home now so I don't have the need for them.
>>
>>108612183
The wolfson wm8758 DAC in pre-5.5 iPods sounds like dogshit with how it interpolates the waveform and only supports up to 48kHz. If you want accurate reproduction, that chip isn't going to do it.
>>
>>108612191
Some people do have 3000+ complete albums but often a decent number of those albums listed in the player have like 1-2 songs that you wanted.
>>
>>108612150
Whatever drives they put in those things must have had some black magic cast on them. My iPod classic hdd lasted like five years of absolute daily abuse.
>>
>>108612161
remember it's only an illness when you want to have it for yourself it's totally normal when a company hoards billions more than you and sells it back to you though.

Why own things? Why own so many things? Why organize them? That's mentally ill. You know you can pay someone for that right?
>>
>>108612232
>shit audiofools says
>>
>>108612256
I would not classify myself as an audiophile, I simply care about my equipment accurately reproducing the signal I'm outputting with enough accuracy so as to not lose whole instruments. The iPod's DAC cannot accurately output at least three songs I am in possession of, and it's not because the songs themselves are low-quality audio.
This is the same reason I have a high bit-depth monitor and have calibrated it with a colorimeter.
You are however correct that the majority of "audiophiles" are retards who are not objectively evaluating data and going by pure vibes (and are often entirely wrong.)
>>
>>108612289
>bro you don't understand, this dac handles 1's and 0's differently then other dacs that also handles 1's and 0's
audiofools everyone
>>
overpriced on ebay due to all the zoomer hipsters who watch dankpods and y2k tiktoks
>>
There's plenty of music players out there that would vastly outshine ipods.
If you're a NPC and you need a retro ipod cuz you're desperate to fit in, look for a Red Wine ipod. That will not only be an ipod worth using, you can flex even harder.
>>
>>108612306
do you seriously believe every single dac ever made is of the same quality
>>
>>108612328
yes, unless you get the cheapest of chink shit all dacs are basically the same
>>
>>108612332
With modern DACs, maybe, but we're talking about pre-2010 iPods here, which are dogshit by modern standards.
>>
>>108612344
then don't use ipods then, there are modern phones that still have the jack
>>
>>108609636
They're neat. I got a couple in a shoebox from a flea market years ago when they were thrift shop trash-tier. Modded some with chinkshit bluetooth and a taptic engine just because. Fun/10
>>
>>108612358
The whole topic is iPods, you fucking retard.
>>
>>108612380
you just said ipods are shit tardo

I'm losing brain cells arguing with your retarded as, fuck off.

>>108612243
>often a decent number of those albums listed in the player have like 1-2 songs that you wanted
Well I like to explore artists full discographies. I don't just want to listen to the hits. Some albums are strong enough that front to back they are an enjoyable experience. Other times you'll end up hearing something that really connects with you that just wasn't some big hit single.

I could of course just listen to critically acclaimed all time classic albums all day long and I'd probably have an objectively better experience. But I feel like that's letting someone else develop my taste for me. That's the same reason I don't let streaming algorithms decide what I'm going to listen to. I don't avoid those things entirely but I don't just stick to them either.

Dedicated music players are fucking amazing, and I loathe how smartphones killed their market. I hate touchscreens for something like this. If I'm away from my computer and want to listen to music, it means I'm fucking busy and want it to be as smooth as possible. Running, lifting, shopping at a store, etc etc everywhere the mp3 player and its tactile buttons mog the fuck out of smartphone touchscreens. I have the UI memorized to where I can go back through the menus and switch playlists without even looking at it. The sandisk players have clips on them, which I attach to my seatbelt while driving and it's far less invasive and distracting than fucking with my car's center touchscreen or bluetooth bullshit.

had an ipod nano back in the day, I liked it lot (minus having to use itunes) before I managed to lose it somehow. Went through quite a few sansa clips afterwards when i was still on a the running/5k race grind, now there was an mp3 player
These days I don't run anymore and just use my phone for music like everyone else. DESU if I got back into it I'd probably pick up another lidl mp3 player though, I always hated the phone armstrap thing
>>
>>108609636
Somehow none of the modern players come close, they either try to make it too complicated with features or too simple while the iPod somehow found the Goldilocks zone.

I think my ideal modern iPod would be something that essentially functions the same, maybe have wifi built in, maybe has a web interface for management, but have it work with Plex/Jellyfin/Navidrome/Subsonic/Roon/audiobookshelf to put tracks onto the device.
Just a little button on their web interfaces that says "send to device" or something.
>>
>>108613175
I had this and the buttons eventually broke one by one. Made me so mad. Made me embrace touchscreen technology.

i have a 2nd gen 2 gb ipoo nano that's had the battery replaced twice, second time due to water damage that was no fault of my own, and now it no longer charges or powers on afaik
it sits in a box sorta repaired where the glue has no tack left and i don't really want to open it again and again anymore.

i also have an ipoo classic whatever gen i bought from ebay used that refuses to stay powered on unless plugged in despite a battery replacement. maybe the battery was defective to begin with or the charging system is shot.

either way for a car listening device filling a phone with mp3s and using fb2k or whatever on shuffle is superior to leaving some chink made battery getting to 130 f in my hot ass car and detonating on the interior.
>>
>>108613018
I drag and drop music into iTunes and there is a hard drive mode.
Try harder, Rajneesh
>>
Do iPhones can't support music code files? I have an Xiaomi Redmi 15 pro or something I just upload in their SD card or in the integrated memory (156 GB) and I play it on a MP3 Music Player (BlackPlayereX) discontinued APK for Android. And blast all my stuff. Most of this are free (as zero dollar) I dont know hope it you. Bye
Also just two captchas. Fuck the Jewish people.
>>
>>108609636
At the time I thought they were overpriced compared to cheaper MP3 players and the fact they were integrated more with itunes was lame. Plus their connector was fucking gay.
As time has gone on I do miss their visual design and the physicality of the wheel they had, I miss feeling buttons and dials on devices. My old teen years MP3 player was really clicky I loved the feel of it.
>>
>>108609636
cool but obsolete, you're better off getting a modern clone with all the nice modern features for 50 bucks rather than paying 100s of bucks for an ewaste ipod
>>
>>108609636
For me its Snoy NW-A306
Even with rockbox and SSD upgrade Ipods are getting kinda morally obsolete, most of them don't fit in the minimalistic device cathegory, but they lose hard against newer DAPs because they lack modern stuff like BT, Wifi connection, ability to install 3rd party apps etc.

i don't follow the market too much but if you want ipod like experience and are not some extreme audiophile there's innioasis y1 which is basically like ipod, it has the ipod wheel, supports rockbox, plays opus files, storage is just an sd card put inside, it's like 50 bucks and i'm quite happy with it, they also plan to make a second version in the future.

take whatever the cost of bullshit like this is and spend it upgrading your phone's storage when you upgrade

you can fit a ton of AAC files on your phone.

are you really doing sub 128kbps music?
if not, aac is equal

Anyone have any experience with the Innoasis Y1 or other similar chinkshit clone? Preferably something that can be flashed with Rockbox or some other replacement firmware.

Nevermind, upon further inspection, the Innioasis Y1 is a Chinese piece of chinkshit--at least with respect to my criteria, the most important of which being expandable flash storage.

Last I heard people were retrofitting them with SD cards and installing rockbox.
