I don't understand. What or how exactly is it verifying I'm a human? All I do is click the box and it verifies. I've never seen any sort of captcha come out of the cloudflare one. I would like to believe that it simply javascript-detects my mouse movement or something but I know it can't be that simple. There seems to be something sinister or even occult at work here.

Give me your most terrifying transhumanist global conspiracy Black Mirror take on Cloudflare humanity verification. I refuse to believe that this is completely benign.

its a humiliation ritual, its ordering you to obey and you do.
the task is irrelevant, its the conditioning that matters.

It checks user input (key presses, mouse movement) since bots just focus and click the checkbox without interaction, and it also runs some random compute in the background like the tranny egyptian anime girl thing does, which makes it computationally expensive for bots to crawl the site.

cloudflare attracted more bots to my site, traffic dropped significantly once I stopped using it.

The bot challenge also did fuck all. I guess it's a large enough target, unlike Anubis, so bots have solve capabilities for it and not Anubis yet

It basically checks your browser compute capabilities because basic http scrapers cannot do js compute.
There are cloudflare captcha solvers for bots that literally run an invisible chrome or firefox instance every time.

Its a humiliation ritual to fingerprint you basically

This.
It's how they are able to link all of your 4chan posts to you. Might as well be putting your full name into the name field.

is data mining and grabbing your website cookies and local storage and saving it to a massive storage farms at palantir datacenters to blackmail you whenever needed

Old browsers can't pass it because it uses some super specific functions that are only available in the last versions. It does nothing to stop malicious bots that can just run the latest version of Chrome, it's just a check to verify that you're a good goy using a recent version of your browser.

there's a fun thing that attracts bots to your site which is having ssl certs issued, so if you let cloudflare or letsencrypt or the various other groups issue ssl certs for your domains/subdomains the bots are constantly crawling those transparency list aggregators like crt.sh or censys.io for targets instead of just running regular subdomain enumeration.

It computes how long it takes your computer to complete a certian kind of task then does a statistical heuristic to determine if there are identical tasks running at the same time, in other words it can filter out other benin tasks like playing a game or rendering a scene from multiple tabs trying to complete the same verification task at the same time. Since compute resources are finite, if it detects that you're doing more than a human reasonably could in a short amount of time, then there you go.

this, all anonymity is an illusion

How do i get search engine and chatgpt/claude index my side but make the rest of them fuck off?
i'm fine with people's AI agents crawling it too. Presumably those come from first world residential IPs?

Solve that and you would've made the most significant contribution to computing in your lifetime.
