Open source could never. Runs on all your devices, perfect sync in real time. Fanstastic stylus support for Surface or iPad (Pencil), everything is automatically indexed, even images OCR’d. You have encryption if you need it.
Remind me why Microsoft is bad again?

I get alot of people deny and cope. go ahead use it, but morally I can't, it is a red line for me. it should have been obvious from the beginning with the inorganic rise to power on what was mediocre tech.

why would I want to associate with pedo protectors? that's morally wrong. also I just used a home rolled PWA that efforltly syncs across all my devices, even works offline and syncs when back online.

All my notes are in excel files.
OneNote native spreadsheet capabilities are too barebones while using embedded excel every time is no different from having a hundred xlsx files in a directory.
Is there any modern documents management application that's kinda like IDE for office? VSCode excel plugins are read-only and too slow.

I'm going to say you're right OP.
My dad's been using this shit for a decade now and he blatantly refuses to use a fucking keyboard to take notes. However this shit has some sync issues every now and then and it's annoying as fuck to deal with.

OneNote is in legacy mode and Microsoft is killing off versions of it one by one. Eventually it will become like Publisher and get dropped because no one in the company can maintain the code anymore, much less extend the functionality. I'd be great if they'd sell it to a company that would develop it further or even open source it, but Microsoft generally just lets things disappear once they lose interest in it.
>>
>>108643523
Well it's not like OneNote prevents you from typing notes either.
>>108643731
Can you cite any evidence for this, or did you just make it all up?
>>

>Well it's not like OneNote prevents you from typing notes either.
No I mean it's good for people who don't like doing that very often. When looking for alternatives a lot of them expect less imagery and drawing and more text shit. He does a lot of notetaking on tablets (with a proper handwriting support that is) and taking screenshots and pictures of every fucking thing.
>>
>>108643769
Hand written notes really are nice for math, I'm much quicker and scribbling equations than typing them up in latex.
>screenshots and pictures of every fucking thing.
I do the same thing. Every maintenance project or repair I do is stashed in there. There's even records of everything I've ever planted in my garden.

The only thing I fucking HATE about it is that all the "files" are just hyperlinks into the cloud. You don't get an actual .docx like file that you can save locally.
>>
>>108643754
Evidence of what? Publisher being dropped was just in the news and reported on /g/ widely. No one owes you a spoon feeding. As for the rest, it's obviously conjecture. Do you always try to stir up shit for no reason other than being lonely? One of these days you're going to show your online personality to someone in the physical world and end up getting punched.
>>
>>108643821
>No one owes you a spoon feeding
Look how nasty they turn.
You made the claims, I just asked you to defend them, which obviously you now term "conjecture". Also the publisher issue is a different matter, they're just merging the features into Word.

Yeah, I was being a bit hyperbolic. I feel like real nigga shit is scribbled on the backside of a coffee stained email printout of last year's toys for tots.
Phone or tablet note apps are a performative ritual that shows management

Yeah, search is absolutely garbage in every microsoft product. Windows and Outlook are complete dogshit, Word's search feature probably hasn't been updated since Office 95, Excel got minor improvements but it's still bad.

This isn't possible on macOS unfortunately.
For whatever reasons, Microsoft decided it will be cloud only.

Not exactly the same as a full file-based system that can work 100% offline.

Brutal. I also just noticed that they massively increased their subscription prices. You cannot even start off with a non-AI option. I’m going to start phasing Microsoft out soon, but it really does suck that there’s actually nothing close to OneNote.

Bro, your Obsidian?
>anstastic stylus support for Surface or iPad (Pencil)
I'll give you this one.

Obsidian does that IIRC.
>images OCR'd
I'll give you that one, but meh.
>encryption
Can do that with Obsidian.
>FOSS
Replace Obsidian with Logseq, I guess. But meh.

Nice quads, but you cannot even draw within the document, it just saves image files and then makes markdown links to them. So you cannot see any of the images or equation in the 'edit' mode. It's horrible.

KDE also has Marknote a simple markdown editor and binder.

Nobody cares, most people that rely on MS365 use it at work / on their work issued laptop. Private users just have LibreOffice, iWork or Google. I don't get the "Open Sauce could never" shit.
And if you use OneNote for private use, you are sub 100 IQ. Just email your notes to your local police station.

Can you give me 5 factual and realistic reasons why I should use OneNote over Obsidian? Buzzwords and Racism/Genderism do not count as valid reasons.
>>
>>108647847
That's actually a huge business, and even the ones like Obsidian use only 'sync' as their revenue stream. As for OneNote, that's part of the Microsoft365 package, Word/Excel/1tb one drive etc.
>>108648018
Weak support for hand written notes on iPad. That's the deal breaker there.

Joplin also has many useful extensions. Like one for Firefox so that you can select part of the Firefox window and send it straight to Joplin. Among many others.
Marknote seems decent for quick notes, drafts, brainstorming. But if you're taking notes for a class or need more than just a markdown editor, then Joplin is a good open source alternative to OneNote.

>Remind me why Microsoft is bad again?
Ask me again when they enshittify your little app to the point of being unusable, or just scrap it because some exec ran out of ketamine.
FOSS is about right to repair. You're basically bragging about how proud you are of being a vendor locked cuck that will eventually have their workflow jeeted.
>>
>>108648684
That’s just the bait to hook for decent alternatives. So far Obsidian is the closest thing, but handwriting support is an afterthought. I’d actually like to migrate from their software. For both technical and politically incorrect ones.

Maybe I'll give Apple notes another look, I just noticed that you can export the notes as simple markdown documents with images included. That's a feature OneNote refuses to implement for both import or export.

>You're basically bragging about how proud you are of being a vendor locked cuck that will eventually have their workflow jeeted.
This is a good way of putting it. Back in 2018 I heavily relied on evernote for my workflow and got seriously burned when the product took a turn for the worse (multiple sales, electron app, etc). Luckily, a lot of tools emerged to export everything to markdown. After that my priority became to build workflows using only long-standing free/open-source tools and file formats, whatever the "cost" may be.

You guys sound productive. Do you anons still play video games? Half my day Im just fucking researching how to be productive, and then playing games.
>>
>>108650800
instead of researching how to be productive just be productive. then you can spend the other half of your day playing games guilt-free
also consider adhd if you havent. for years i've been operating on long stretches of procrastination and doing fuck all split up by short, cathartic bursts of hyperfocus. over a long enough period of time i still end up doing some impressive shit

>>108650037
I’ve been bouncing between Apple notes and onenote quite a bit over the years. Onenote is way more robust, also the web versions saved me a couple times during work. Apple notes is clean but it sucks it’s apple only. If I could use it on my windows and work machines I would have switched. The webversion is bad. The markdown export is very nice though.

Joplin grows on me the more I use it, but damn do they need an interface designer for the iPad app. Introducing drawings into notes in much more stilted than something like one note.

>You guys sound productive.
Other than scribbling equations, it’s mostly used for as a log entry. If I repair something around the house, I take photos and write down what I did. When did I do an oil change? I’ll check my notes.
I don’t follow any of the various productivity philosophies, in my opinion it’s a form of mental illness. In times of old, scribes would follow me around writing down what I told them, but today I have OneNote.
