Which websites are actually worth using?
The more I use major ones like social media and youtube, the more I feel like my brain is rotting
It is starting to seem more and more like the only thing an internet browser is useful for is torrenting, jerking off, googling something, and then being closed

ones that go central serverless, that give you an opt of of the terms and conditions by telling you to just clone off github and run off localhost- no ads, no telemetry, no blackbox central server, no millisecond time diffs on boobs A vs Boobs B through a tiktok or twitter doomscrool to better know how to hijack the bioform associated with your IMEAs amgdala for the day of the great infohazard
as those enshittifying your websites continue to treat their users as captive users of an opium den, these solutions will continue to roll down hill. Every 15 minutes browsing a site like that, even if its empty, is 15 minutes taken away from big tech on their inseccent quest to digitize your life force for the purposes of predicting- and then by human nature, unfortunately belittling the 'tool' operator

I still do to obtain magnet links/.torrent files. Is that now considered an antiquated way?

Twitter can be great, but the algorithm swings wildly and if you interact with something, it'll turn your entire feed into just that kind of content. So you have to make a point to search for an interact with content you like.
Youtube's a social network for the people actually making and posting video content. The commenters are basically ants that no one pays attention to.
Reddit is a sad joke for anything except very niche topics.
Bluesky and Threads are fake. Like there's nothing going on on them. Same with the deliberately right wing social media sites, there's no activity except the same spam accounts you see on other platforms.
I have no idea what goes on on Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok.
Facebook is all boomers with benign or dumb commentary.
LinkedIn is all sociopathic drones who made being an office jockey their personality.

Social media's unfortunately an integral part of our lives now. It seems to be how most people actually meet each other. Bars are overly expensive and being an alcoholic is more dangerous in the hyper-connected social media world than it ever was in the past. There's no actual third places anymore unless you luck out with some kind of club or meetup where you really enjoy the people involved. Also, unless you live in a city, dating without social media presence/skill is basically dead.

there's no fucking way. I'm autistic as fuck so I'm not part of any social media. but there's no way normies are meeting on social media and have just stopped talking IRL.

Follow blogs you can find that you like (especially ones with linkdumps) and just slowly build a list of websites that you like and get updates for

I'd look into the old sites that are still around like slashdot. Not because of the content specifically but because the site was designed back in a time react, PWA, anglular, REST and other memes were not a thing. Its a lot less stimulating and feels much more refreshing than loading 30MB of data for one page.

There are a handful of forums that managed to stay independent and active. You often have to prove yourself before you are given more access.

There's none, even forums (especially past ones) are very overhyped, you'll learn faster by reading tech manuals & good books rather than peeking through 1000's of posts by people who have no idea what they are talking about.
