tl;dr:
power off a machine
OR, enable/disable Ctrl+Alt+Del
really kind of strange to bundle those together, but sure.
you can: restart, restart with a command, power off, halt, do a kexec, suspend, or manage the CAD key combination
especially interesting is the behavior of some of these commands within pid namespaces: they'll only reboot that namespace, and not the whole machine

Nooo, what? Only negative feels. Why do women date terrorist refugees from kurdistan/ISIS when stuff like this happen to them?? Culture is so fucked. Refugees are mostly lawless murderers that escape their crimes, dont be fooled, full of STDs

so that's how CAD is disabled when you switch to tty from your DE? interesting.

not really, ctrl+alt+del is the historical key combo for rebooting a pc. it works in DOS, and it still works in Linux if entered from a TTY/outside of a GUI.
It was later repurposed in GUIs to bring up some form of task manager/killer instead as operating systems became more stable/multi-tasking. (back in the day you killed a program by rebooting because you were only running one program at a time)

women will choose an abusive boyfriend over a kind one because at least the abusive one presents as masculine. it's not so much that they like being abused (most of the time), they're just biologically wired to be attracted to someone at least capable of violence, that is their monkey brain thinks such a man would be violent to protect her as well.
this post isn't intended to put down women, it's just a basic fact

This thread is way too stupid to know this. No point in effortposting unless you enjoy getting baited into posting the most LLM ass response ever. That's literally what they want. It's literally the modus operandi of one of these freaks to post the most retarded opinion to bait someone halfway competent into correcting them in earnest.

i just enjoy explaining things i happen to know about. i know not everyone cares to know, but if anyone scrolls past it and goes "oh so that's why" or whatever, that's enough for me.

Apparently. After all I'm still waiting for someone to articulate the reason.

honestly, despite seeing "syscall of the day" several times before, this is the first time posting in one of these threads only because i noticed the confusion regarding the relationship between rebooting and ctrl+alt+del. i don't actually know what this thread is about.
reading OP fully just now i guess it's just "here's a syscall; talk about it", so my comment is kinda relevant i guess. the topic is a bit vague.
and yeah, in general i do like posting things which may be helpful even if not to the person i'm responding to and even if it doesn't get any replies. i believe it's in the spirit of anonymous posting, impersonal, undirected ideas and thoughts.

i know what you're talking about, being "maliciously wrong" purely to get a right answer out of people, but i doubt op intended that, he doesn't appear to even be asking if there's a reason rebooting and ctrl+alt+del are bundled together, much less give a wrong opinion (he gives no opinion regarding why it's there).
that said, even if it is that i will sometimes still answer it, if it's something that's not terribly obvious. i know CAD as a reboot combination as i'm just old enough to have used MS-DOS, so i understand it's relationship to rebooting and also the relationship between rebooting and killing programs, which is how CAD is used today

I think that women like violent rapist because it is a better genetic investment. A violent rapist will get violent rapist sons, and if they dont get pussy, they will take it by force. Just a smarter genetic strategy, and women are tools of their biology.

i don't disagree, from a biological standpoint it makes sense. and yes, women are natural followers, they follow the trends amongs themselves, they follow the demands of strong masculine figures and they follow their biological instincts.
if you aren't willing to take control of a woman they will go with someone who does.

I for one wouldn't mind if we just outlawed autists. We could put them in a special hole in ADX where the prisoners could just beat them up for recreation, and we could record the interactions and sell them as audio books to get in some additional revenue.
>>
>>
>>108668831
The audio books would help: >>108668812
What I wouldn't give to listen to two hours of blood-curdling autistic screaming and moaning.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>108668893
Why would I advocate for myself to be sent to ADX? That only makes sense for non-autists, autist.
>>108668753
Oh, here's another one that is going to confuse the bejesus out of autists: larger page sizes.
>have to open a process token
>look to up the current value for the privilege in question
>(which, for the record, creates and closes an LSA hande for every single call, that could've been used in subsequent interactions - but who's counting)
>actually adjust the token privilege
>close the token
>now have to use special APIs like NtAllocateVirtualMemoryEx that don't specifically block requests for 1 GiB pages
>only for this shit to fail randomly
>because Windows cannot be bothered to keep its memory unfragmented
>and MS cannot be bothered to provide a boot option to reserve bigger pages
Or we could talk about the fact that, on Windows, memcpy will switch to NT stores at payloads higher than 512 KiB, or how they still use SSE instructions, or how it's a fucking crime interfaces cannot reveal information about their implementations (i.e. "don't worry, I'm not using SIMD instructions, you don't have to generate a fucking VZEROUPPER or preserve your own registers if you call me").
But that would require, y'know, intelligence. And autists are retards. Which is why I'm so OK with outlawing them.

Ok so basically Bash is an interface layer for POSIX syscalls, correct?
When I execute reboot, bash does the syscall for me.
Is this correct?

... lol.
You tell autists exactly what's going on, and they can not, will not acknowledge it. They have to come up with alternate scenarios because their brains are incapable of understanding that which is written right in front of their eyes.
