People keep saying Linux is so scary and hard and weird for gaming but it was faster and easier to setup than Windows 11 today.

I use Mint and barely ever have to use the prompt, when I do it's just copying and pasting a command from a site.

It is, and I believe fresher installs of Win10 come with it by default as well. But people not knowing it is what Linuxfags need as they need to be disingenuous to shill their tinker toy of an OS. They instantly fail ehen you get technical and will default to blame shifting and gaslighting.
You could map out Linuxfag arguments on a algorithm diagram and be 100% accurate with it they're so predictable.

I mean, I'm posting this from my GAHNUE + LEENUCKS desktop using Firefox right now bro. Linux is objectively superior, but this case is kind of dumb since M$ has been catching up. Windows Server 2025 also comes with winget because it's better than the status quo of every retard having their own software deployment shitware that barely works. chill the fuck out.

I have a spare laptop that I just installed W11 on from a usb. What settings should I disable and whatnot to make it better? Its not my main computer so I'm not that bothered about it. Its just a random spare laptop. I used rufus to install it so I didnt have to make an online account.

We have the KDE appstore, where you can search Firefox and click the "install" button.
Or better yet, can we finally admit portable and self installed apps are superior to a package manager that should only be used for core system components?

Isn't that what windows does?
On Linux you press the system update button or write the system update command and you see every single package that will be updated and its version
The windows gui is actively obfuscating shit by making it cumulative
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>108662673
I did, that's what I've been using prior to switching
It's funny, on Linux it's considered to be embarrassing to use something that updates slower and on a delay like Debian
But you have to do that on windows since the main branch is completely unusable
>>
>>108662746
Bullshit, I used Mint, and I got locked out of my PC (impossible to get to the login screen) 3 times in 2 days, when all I tried to do was change the brightness and auto-mount all my disks instead of just one at start-up.
>Muh skill issue
I am more knowledgeable than the overwhelming majority of the population when it comes to PCs, if I get stumped that hard by the "easiest distro" (inb4 duh it's not, just use MY easiest distro and not the 300 other "easiest distros"), then Linux is dogshit for a normal user. Wanting a car that has airbags and seatbelts and brakes is not a skill issue, it is rational, as long as you keep coping with "BE A BETTER DRIVER!!!", nobody will buy your shit death-trap car.

>>
>>108667977
I don't know what fstab is, and I shouldn't have to if you want Linux to be more than a server OS and only a gimmick for PCs. Windows is infinitely superior to Linux in the fact it doesn't let you fuck yourself over for no reason by making a "mistake" from the pov of a purity-spiraling retard who says anyone who can't read straight-up binary "doesn't deserve to use a computer". Linux has 0 safety feature for the user, everything you do can and will destroy the OS for no apparent reason. A small cage isn't perfect, but it's vastly better than a bigger space where there are landmines on the ground everywhere.
Windows issues can be resolved quickly by mindlessly clicking through a debloater once, Linux will have you on edge forever as any minute task can fuck up everything. Linux as of yet is for autists and servers, not personal computers for normal use.
>>

Bullshit, I watched Dr Who as a kid and I'm a zoomer. A cool Aryan defeating monsters and aliens with clever plans in cool set pieces is a timeless concept. >Argument from incredulity
Ok retard. And there is no point in "shilling" something that is free and debloated, just use W10 LTSC, debloat it with Titus' thing or another, and you're set for at least many years. I know what directories and folders are, I know how to find pirated shit, I know about extensions, I know how to install softwares, I keep my PC clean and orderly, I know what browsers are, I find what keys to edit in the key registry for my needs... You're going to say it's all basic shit, and it should be, but 95% of people don't know at least one of those. I'm not an expert, but I'm still objectively better than the overwhelming majority. Either you want Linux to remain an autistic side-project, in which case stop shilling your shit, or bring it up to this millennia's standards.
Or are you enough of an autistic basement dweller to think the average user buys Raspberry pies to set up constantly running servers for fun on the week-ends? Most people are flabbergasted Ublock Origin exists and they use basic Chrome.

Linux is absolutely shit for offline and "offline" use.
With windows I can just download directx and c++ redistributables (like 10 exe files maximum), save the installers of all of the programs I use, and 100% they will ALWAYS work.
With linux I have to 1) store thousands of dependencies that depend on dependencies that depend on dependencies that depend on dependencies that depend on dependencies that depend on dependencies that depend on dependencies... and 2) get all the versions, because a program might hard-require version above 0,9, one could require 1.69 and no other, and yet another might want 0.5 alpha beta gamma delta only.

And of course all your comparisons only take a basic Linux vs a basic Windows, completely ignoring debloated Windows and the fact that, news flash retard, you do more with a computer than install an OS and leave it there forever never to use the PC again. You actually need to use it, change parameters, install stuff, and at all that Linux is dogshit that breaks for no reason and is incredibly convoluted. Something as simple as clear filepaths is unknown to Linux, you need to remember dozens of 3 letters abbreviations which literally only exist because computers sucked too much to have more letters 40 years ago. Linux also does not have unique images for your folders depending on what files are inside and good luck trying to get that.
Using Linux is fucking miserable, and you'll never fix its flaws because you're proud of having swam in shit, and you find it insulting anyone would want to not have to do that.

>It's funny, on Linux it's considered to be embarrassing to use something that updates slower and on a delay
Only by tinker faggots doing desktop ricing.
For people with work to do they just use a stable LTS distro with security patches and updates. Wise people understand that you don't immediately need every single new feature in every new version of 99% of the software you use, and you don't want your work schedule disrupted by some fucking BS with fucked up dependencies in the AUR. And when you do need newer versions than the OS provides there are always plenty of options. There's also fewer 0days in software that's not being updated with new features constantly.
There are always multiple options for installing the most recent versions for specific packages that you really want.
- Ships a static binary or AppImage you can just download
- Compile it yourself
- Run it in a container
The biggest downside of using a stable distro is the need to spend time on a major upgrade every couple of years.
>>
>>
>>
>>108662667
It's pretty easy to setup linux, some distros like fedora make it practically as simple as plugging in an USB stick and running a basic windows installer process with Fedora Media Writer for example. If you have the basic nerd knowledge it's easy to install it, obviously the average normalfag can't without looking for a guide but they aren't gonna be searchong for linux anyway, so it doesn't matter to lower the floor even more.
The issue with linux is what happens when you got it up and running and you want to do stuff. Not play with linux, but do stuff you usually did on windows before. Then you realize the limitations and realize there's no skill issue that can fix software and hardware vendors just not making stuff compatible with linux desktop. And then you go back to windows and your only interaction with linux is looking at changes on youtube videos and hoping one day it'll get viable to use it.

Most computers run Linux.
Most computers don't need an office suite.
If it is needed, LibreOffice covers 99% of the use-cases.
The EU noticed this and is getting rid of Microsoft Office in the public sector.
>>
>>108669885
>LibreOffice covers 99% of the use-cases
Calc still sucks donkey dick, and even commercial competitors like Google Sheets can't compete with Excel. Not only does Excel has the most robust feature set, it has VBA, and a fuckton of critical spreadsheets rely on it.
EU itself realized that LibreOffice is shit btw, they forked OnlyOffice, a vastly superior alternative to LibreOffice, to make EuroOffice, aiming to unfuck everything that's wrong with OnlyOffice. Not once did the EU think LibreOffice is a good idea since even they know how much of a fucking freetard joke it is.

>It kinda reminds me the OpenOffice/LibreOffice split in a way desu, one was too stagnant so the other one happened to keep shit moving forward.
Which is the beauty of open-source software.
If a project starts stagnating or drifting off course, it can still be continued by a more apt developer or group.
It also forces the current developer to attend to the community's needs, or risk it's project becoming obsolete in face of a more competent fork. Many such cases.

>Then you realize the limitations and realize there's no skill issue that can fix software and hardware vendors just not making stuff compatible with linux desktop.
This is true, but also much less true now than it has ever been.
>wut 'bout excel
My employer doesn't even provide native MS Office licenses anymore. We only get the Office 365 browser shit anyway, so I'd have to buy it myself and there's certainly no feature I need in native Excel that's worth spending my own money on.
It always boils down to specifics. What apps do you really need? If you're hard-locked on windows because you need AutoCAD and Photoshop, there's really nothing to think about. You shouldn't have even bothered. If you're gayming, lots of games work on linux now it all depends on what you want to play.
If all you're going to do is shitpost on 4chan, you can do that from any OS. Just find a linux drawing app you can get used to, or run MSPAINT.EXE through Wine.

Ah yes, the classic Linuxfag cope of "99% of Windows users are grandmas or gaymers so Linux should've already taken over" while actively refusing to acknowledge the cold hard truth that most Windows users are corporate users, and corporations see desktop Linux as what it is: an unreliable tinker toy with no one to sue if shit goes wrong.
You either focus on catering to the corporate client or you'll forever be a fringe group of psychos.
>>
>>
>>108670958
wtf? corporations are the only people using linux outside of a handful of hobbyists. you have that completely backward. windows gets used because it comes preinstalled on all pc hardware sold otc. that's literally it. if pc otc came with linux mint then every game studio would dev for linux first class. never overthink normies.

Maybe if you weren't socially inept like every other Linuxfag you'd realize that by constantly being disingenuous and playing semantics to try and convince people that Linux is great, people'll instantly sniff out how much of a liar (You) are and assume Linux users are all insufferable liars.
But alas, that's all you ever do, and then wonder why no one ever wants to switch to Linux. No matter how bad Windows is, by using Windows, you don't have to interact with the Linux community.

wtf is your problem? i main windows you presumptuous retard. i was only pointing out your mistake and you went full bootlicker. and yes, in the corporate world everyone is running linux workstations. i'm forced to use linux every day at work, and it's not any different than windows 99% of the time. i boot up and open some applications, it's the same workflow on both systems and the results are identical. if you invoke the name "excel" i will assume you're a neet gaymer retard repeating memes with zero knowledge. nobody with a real job uses excel anymore, that's parasite boomer daycare shit.

I had the total opposite experience
B4 i switched to linux i had semi frequent driver issues on windows 10, they'd just randomly up and die. and it took an age for me to fix the problem.
ever since i switched to fedora, i've never had this issue.

The only way you can convince people to use that tinker toy that are "GNU+Linux desktop distros for x86 desktop computers" (full name so that there are no doubts about what we're talking about) is by being insanely disingenuous and relentless in doing so to the point you make people dry heave at any mention of your toy OS just because they don't want to be associated with those types of smarmy cunts that the Linux "community" is composed of. No surprises there.

Good for you, I'm not changing my working hardware just for linux, though.

Okey dokey.

I didn't mean to shitpost, linux has it's use cases, and there's certainly people who can benefit from using it over windows/macos, from the way I see it though it's going to struggle due to the egg/chicken problem.
>>108670434
I don't use any of those programs you mentioned (Office, CAD, Photoshop, etc.), but yeah many people rely on them and would be limited to windows/mac because of it. For me personally it's mostly gaming related, I have a NVIDIA card and quite frankly am not okay with having performance regressions just because of my OS, I understand it's not linux's fault, but it doesn't really change the fact the regressions are there. Some games I play are also not compatible (CS2 with Faceit in particular), and I personally side-eye people who say all singleplayer games just werk because that has not been my experience at all, I tried out some of my GOG titles using Lutris/Heroic, I tried them in .rpm and in flatpaks and tried out both wine, wine-ge, proton-ge, and umu and it's like a whack a mole game trying to get a game working 100% correct, I faced issues with audio distortion in VtMB no matter what, supposedly due to some issue with UP. I faced issues with KotOR with some 3D models having disfigured faces in certain scenes (main menu malak for example), I faced issues with wayland or I guess xwayland on a VRR monitor just having terrible jittery performance in GNOME and it's the only DE I really like in Linux, and there are so many little things that seem to work properly, that it makes me think that if I were to play a game for the first time only on Linux I wouldn't even know if there were bugs and if certain stuff wasn't showing up or working correctly lol. Similar to how people are faceblind to various animation/text/gradient/color issues on Firefox/Gecko compared to Chromium.

Parasite Eve II plays flawlessly on Linux.

All games don't just work, but a lot do. GOG support is definitely iffy, but a lot better than I expected. All old dosbox stuff works with no issues. Lots of newer games also work perfectly. Every Steam game I've tried has worked but I avoid steam. But there seems to be a lot of games from the 2000s-2010s that have issues.
Retroarch works great for me, though. Everyone complains about the UI but on Linux I don't even need it. I can tab-complete the game I want to play from the CLI and modify (git-tracked) configuration with a text editor.

She cute.

Yeah, I think if the idea is just to get the game up and running and for the most part 98% functioning fine, it's definitely achievable even for most gog titles with a little bit of tinkering. Probably the best linux experience you can get is running something like Steam (Singleplayer games primarily) + AMD GPU/CPU (With a lot of VRAM for DXVK and RT on Linux), and a distro with fresher packages like Fedora or Arch based, but I am really not a good target audience for Linux despite really liking the idea of it as I love drm-free games too, due to my liking for onlineslop games and being a NVidya GPU convert after getting burned by AMD's straight up terrible treatment of early RDNA cards. I actually had a pretty good experience playing emulator games on Linux too, I was playing PokeMMO using their official flatpak client for linux, also some roms I grabbed for melonDS's linux flatpak and it was a great time, don't think I noticed any issues compared to windows.

He was giving an honest answer to a reply made yesterday, and the person he responded to replied back.
You're just exposing yourself at this point, that you can't get hired as a janitor even for a salary of $0.

Linux is still something what is getting shilled by the content creators so they can get their salaries.
Basic desktop experience on Linux was better 15 years ago than what it is now. Why? Because they never cease development, every project is a cesspit of commits and opinions what shouldn't even exist.
It's crazy that none of these projects haven't been able to reproduce something what SGI Irix even was, and that was a pretty basic desktop environment.
